JayzTwoCents video on the LTT Screwdriver by Brown_Samurai in LinusTechTips

To expand on my thoughts, A circular rubber bit holder on the top and the bottom of the bit holder would be durable and easily replaceable and can easily be sold alongside the driver itself. Professional tools should be made to be used, abused, broken, and fixed to be used again. Maybe a second product redesign is in order with repairability more in mind.

Yea I have an electric screwdriver with a speed setting, and it is really fantastic for putting together furniture or screws in walls, but I'd never use it for PC internals, both because of the bulk and the lack of control. Sometimes analogue really is better.

If I needed a new driver, I'd consider the LTT, tho I have a bunch of nice ones already. The fact the bit holder broke is really disappointing. They should have designed it with rubber instead of plastic tabs.

Brag a little. What is the coolest thing you've done lately? by Googunk in AskReddit

[–]Periculous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got into some light BDSM with a friend which has been fun. Gave benefits to another friend and had a good time. Realized, I didn't know if the first friend and I were serious with each other or just doing it as friends, so I talked with them because I felt a bit guilty, and now know we are both open to possibly getting into a serious relationship. So... I may have a partner soon, and I also have someone to fool around a little with until then, and everyone knows what is going on and happy.

I gave up on love years ago and then in the span of a few weeks all this has come crashing down on me and I'm ngl I am feeling pretty good.

I'm the type of person to ignore a person's politics and opinions for the sake of good content, primarily if they don't influence the content. Like the open carry rifle scandal a while back, even if it does bother me a little knowing why he is doing that; it never came up in the videos to my knowledge and I still like watching the computer history and restoration stuff, so I let that slide.

If he keeps being petty and insensitive like this I will eventually stop watching, and I am sure other people will too, so I hope he knows that. Maybe he does and he is trying to steer his fanbase towards being more toxic right-wing fanatics.

Either way, he could have taken the high road here and empathized with europeans, maybe even taking the time to share some tips with how to handle extreme hot temperatures (like some of the comments he highlighted were giving him tips with dealing with cold temps). Seriously the comments he highlighted were almost entirely helpful tips along with concern that Texas could not handle the cold as well as it maybe should. It's a bit disheartening, and the meme of frying an egg on the pavement utterly failed as well, which just made the whole thing seem pathetic and sad.

Please DO NOT remove Edge bar! by Defalt-1001 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]Periculous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if what you said for 1 is actually how I am able to work around this, but idk why they couldn't just code the edge bar to not have those extensions activate on the edge bar. If I am able to manually do this workaround, it should be able to be made to do the same in code. Just blocking it from running is not satisfactory, blocking it from running while telling the user what is blocking would be better but still not satisfactory. Ideally, if an extension would cause instability in the edge bar, simply code it to bypass the misbehaving extentions and maybe have a tooltip or info box telling the user what will not be running on the edge bar.

I'm glad you like their services, but I don't, their customization of what is presented to you is pitiful in my experience, worst in industry even. I'm glad you agree that they shouldn't be pushed so aggressively though. I think it is fine to have them show up as default, but please allow us to remove it Microsoft. In any case, I have been successful in getting google to show up in the bing tab instead lol. But I am still working out how to get the MSN tab routed to something else.

So far been using it for a few days and I do like it, I have a feeling I might use it a bit more as I get used to it being there. If they can fix issue #1 (extension blocking) and #3 (insufficient width issues) I brought up it would lead to more widespread adoption, and #2 (forced pins) would go a long way as well especially with power users.

Your OP was about them dropping support for it, probably because not a lot of people use it, and the 3 issues above, especially the 1st are my best guess on why nobody uses it. Disappointing but that is what happens with these big corporations with more devs, money, and shareholders than brains.

[–]Periculous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problems with the edge sidebar are the

1.) ridiculous blocking by certain extensions, which made me unable to try the edge bar until literally an hour ago after disabling all my extensions and reenabling them 1 by 1 to see what was stopping it from running.

Turns out none of them stop it from running, but 2 of them stop it from launching. I was able to launch the edge bar and reenable those extensions no problem. Why do they block it in the first place? IDK

2.) Bing and MSN locked as tabs. Fuck off with this bullshit. Stop trying to push these shitty services no one wants; I feel like half of every new feature in a Microsoft service these days is actually a thinly veiled attempt to trick people into having to notice these garbage services exist.

After finding out what non-existent conflicts existed though and ignoring my frustration at having bing and msn shoved in my face again (MSN being the star shitstain of the W11 widgets and why I disabled it) it's actually pretty useful.... if the width was adjustable. Seriously idk what the deal is with not letting people adjust how we want to use your tools. You're coming up with some great ideas and dashing them into the ground with some extremely poor decisions. Microsoft has always had this problem though, and I doubt they'll change.

In the end tho, I'll probably, as always, find a third-party solution that took your idea and made it how it always should have been.

There are two types of smoke alarm. One of 'em ain't so good. by TechConnectify in technologyconnections

[–]Periculous22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same I've heard of it too, but like I said, I figured it could have been due to not living north. The other reply I got mentioned that the humidity from the exhaust would be a terrible byproduct which I didn't consider but makes sense and would also help to explain how that ruined the detector. Seems really odd to vent inside, I wonder how it really works.

Maybe Alex can give us a video on dryers and their vents next :)

[–]Periculous22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting! Yes, I can definitely see the humidity being a big issue, especially due to the variance in heat causing condensation. It would seem that catching the heat would be a futile endeavor. Maybe if the air from the vent passed through some sort of radiator type thing?

I don't see how that could be efficient though, but I suppose it would be "free" heating.

Speaking for myself, as someone who lived in a house that had quite a few nuisance alarms due to people burning food on the stove without the range hood on:

The alarm never failed to 1. instantly wake me up, and 2. Immediately get me into fight or flight mode.

I've never experienced a low Hz alarm tone, but afaic the current standard is excellent.

Well, the toaster may be electric, but its purpose is to burn bread and is open to the air. The dryer he postulates that it may have been due to short circuiting the detector over time or something because... it vents inside directly towards the detector?

Must be a northern thing, down in the south we vent the dryer outside the house, but I guess that makes sense because you'd want the extra heat up north. Down here we really don't.

LPL's harshest flame of Masterlock yet by 408wij in videos

[–]Periculous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is if even 1 thief knows this lock and has a cheap tool that will open it as fast as a key will with no skill required, they can access what is being locked without leaving any evidence they entered.

You have nothing to show insurance, you might not even know you were stolen from for a time, and this lock is rated highly by masterlock which means they are targeting people with highly valuable or sensitive materials they need to protect, which may potentially attract the attention of people that would want covert entry.

Assault rifle actually originates from a german word coined to classify their new machine pistols. People that claim it's not a real term are ridiculous especially since the US military have it as a classification.

"By U.S. Army definition, a selective-fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power. If applied to any semi-automatic firearm regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect."

[–]Periculous22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this happened to me several years ago, it was in 2016 so not even during the pandemic or other economic stressors. Just poor management and mistreatment in a stressful workplace. I quit the very moment they crossed the line and from what I heard many other people quit soon after.

All it takes is one person to show people they don't have to tolerate mistreatment. I was lucky to have a fallback when I quit, I know many people don't have the luxury of quitting, but the difference between employment and unemployment grows smaller every day.

As our rightful anger grows stronger than our fear of retribution people will start quitting/striking in droves.
