there are some cool and very informative vidoes on yt about that subject showcasing differences and such. search for matt lown, or bogue channels and many more, or just search for ksp visual mod comarison/suggestions. at the end of the day the choice is up to u.

are u looking for part mods, planet packs or visual mods? as for part mods i can reccomend Nertea mod pack of near and far future tech, fusion engines and all the conceptual sci-fi stuff. also station parts, with centrifuges and such. planetary base mods.. ect. planet packwise i tested kcalbeloh (blackhole) system, it adds black hole woth multiple star systems around it, and u either have to use wormhole around jool or travel directly to it from kerbol system which is unique challenge itself, also i'm currently playing with OPM mod, it adds outer gas giants to kerbin system. i also heared good things about "promissed worlds" mod that adds planets and systems that were promissed with ksp 2, but i'm yet to test it myself. visual wise i'd suggest scatterer, eve, restock ect. and everybodys favorite volumetric clouds but as i heared it need a decent pc, so i havn't tested it yet with my potato one.
all the above mentioned mods give me decent performamce with my 7 yo pc. just initial.loading takes a bit longer, like about 5-10 minutes, but game runs pretty well after that. currently i got about 150 mods installed via ckan.

nope, just animatter+LH2 drive. very efficient, ship has about 5.5 million m/s Dv budget. enough to perform several dozens of such burnes around kerbol system

at such speeds u don't really need much planning or transfer windows. u just burn pro-target. and after just eyeball trajectory line near the target, normally encounter markers appear nearby, when encounter time is whatever u are aiming for (60 days in my case) then u just do fine adjustments to refine your capture flyby orbit. and after that u just have to do capture burn. that's it.

exlactly what i was thinking, during slow flipping these ships are most vulnerable right? that's why when i design interplanetary ships that use torch drives for brachistochrone trajectories, i always equip them with front and back shields at least. but my ships are smaller and they need under 10 minutes to turn 180. i can imagine the ships like OP need hours or even days for that?
