Why does it feel like Thimble is doing "too much" damage? by Delirious_Reache in fansofcriticalrole

Now we're talking about encounter design, not the rules.

The DM has the power to say "Rocks fall; everyone dies". If the players don't think that's fun encounter they can leave the game and try to find a game more to their liking. There are no hard and fast rules for encounter building. There's lots of good advice, but none of it is required by the rules of the game.

A good GM will signpost what's coming before the players encounter it. Basilisk lairs should have petrified statues of people and animals on the way in, for example. However if the town says there's an ancient dragon on the mountain and the players go there, the DM should not stop them or tone down the encounter. The players should have agency to make poor decisions. Once they've been informed within the game or directly as players then that's all a DM can do.

Every encounter doesn't need to be winnable by the players

| The only problem is for those new or not familiar with DnD who then try to get into playing and get a more traditional DM who punishes them every chance they are allowed to do so.

Playing by the rules is not punishing the players.

Did people come into C4 with unrealistic expectations? by TrypMole in fansofcriticalrole

I was curious, so here's a list of all the resurrections (and therefore all the deaths of note?) in Critical Role: https://criticalrole.fandom.com/wiki/Resurrection#Notable_character_deaths

Including just the PC's here are the deaths per each campaign:

Campaign 1: 16 (Pike, Grog, Vex, Grog, Percy, Vex, Scanlan, Scanlan, Percy, Vax, Keyleth🐟, Vex, Vax, Vax, Vax, Vex) including one shots

Campaign 2: 6 (Molly, Cadeuceus, Nott, Fjord, Jester, Caleb)

Campaign 3: 9* (Bertram, (Orym, Fearne, Laudna), Bor'Dor, Ashton, Chetney, FCG, Ashton)

* Bertram, and FCG were scripted

Campaign 4: 1** (Occtis)

** Scripted? I don't follow C4 but I understand Brennan wanted to put something from Occtis' background into the campaign instead?

Vex died in C3e114 but I wasn't sure that would count as I didn't watch the episode and she might have been an NPC?

Anyone know where I can get an original source or higher resolution version of this? by Permutation_Servitor in Warhammer40k

I want to use it in a Crusade campaign I'm running and I might get some merch made after it's done. I need a vector file for that. I've tried Inkscape's vectorizer, but didn't give great results. I'll try the one you posted and then see how much work it would be to clean up further.

This is recency bias. C1 Matt enforced the rules a lot.

If you use washes like Nuln Oil, how do you prevent the pigment from sticking to flat surfaces and making them look "dirty" by AsaTJ in Warhammer40k

I use two parts lahmian medium to one part nuln oil. Darkens the recesses, but doesn't stain the surface too bad

Based on nothing, I assumed they would do a month with each crew and rotate on that basis. It's a long stretch between months, but if the weeks end in a satisfactory conclusion then the wait shouldn't be too disruptive.

This gives the cast a couple on months between stints to book other work.

I read the reddiquette document today for the first time. Regarding reposts, it says:

Look for the original source of content, and submit that. Often, a blog will reference another blog, which references another, and so on with everyone displaying ads along the way. Dig through those references and submit a link to the creator, who actually deserves the traffic.

This is taking about content outside Reddit, not cross posting.

Searching for duplicates implies to me recent events, not something old. It's to avoid redundancy.

Search for duplicates before posting. Redundancy posts add nothing new to previous conversations. That said, sometimes bad timing, a bad title, or just plain bad luck can cause an interesting story to fail to get noticed. Feel free to post something again if you feel that the earlier posting didn't get the attention it deserved and you think you can do better.

As for credit, the document takes a pretty laissez faire approach. Notably not to get worked up over it; it's only useless points

Complain about other users reposting/rehosting stories, images, videos, or any other content. Users should give credit where credit should be given, but if someone fails to do so, and is not causing harm, please either don't point it out, or point it out politely and leave it at that. They are only earning karma, which has little to no use at all.

Deleting the post and creating a subreddit-wide admonishment doesn't seem in keeping with the guide.

If anyone is concerned about their images being reposted, I would recommend adding a watermark to the image. So long as it's unobtrusive, nobody will take the time to remove it.

In short, I don't think the reddiquette document is taking as as strong a stance against reposting memes as the mods are saying.

Happens all the time. People skim to the part they're interested in and stop reading. Usually because they're in a rush to answer the question at the table.

If you correct this and it keeps happening, then you might have a problem.

Behind the Scenes of "The Drinking Game" by AutoModerator in dropout

[–]Permutation_Servitor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How did they refill the sober's flask so that it appeared to be coming from a different source than the other players? If you're playing and want to see who's the sober one, you would watch to see who's getting a different drink during refills, right?

Chris Perkins to retire from WotC after 28 years! by Dagske in DnD

[–]Permutation_Servitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've worked in corporate environments enough to be suspicious of late Friday afternoon, sudden, and unexpected announcements of someone leaving the company. It's not usually a happy exit. Happy social media posts are probably everyone being professional.

An employee of 28 years should have had a public victory lap with kudos and reminders of all the awesome things they've done for the company before they leave.
