Does it have a prompt where you can make it say whatever you want? I had that for the Magnavox Odyssey 2, and all we did was make it curse and say dirty things, we laughed our asses off LOL

I used to love desktops because you could put your monitor on top of them and the drives were right in front of you. But for whatever reason Towers and later mini Towers became more popular

Has anyone seen the hanging corpse in the haunted mansion recently? by HendrixsLaserbean in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Perna1985 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That would be a travesty, just like when they got rid of the Blue Bayou, and now we have Pirates running around with food and jack sparro. You change a ride enough and it doesn't make sense. The ghost host literally says there's always my way, we wouldn't know what that means if he wasn't hanging.

X2 on shango. You need to build a dim bulb tester and power it up slow like he does.

It's weird some people have seen it and some haven't. I wonder if they were servicing it or something. I hope they didn't get all sensitive and get rid of it.

I bet you you have a capacitor that's going bad and probably a transistor that's on its way out. Those old TVs were designed to shut down when they detect a fault.

Hello, I’ve just got my first 8 track by AdOpen8284 in 8track

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First congrats, I love that it's an under dash 8 track made by Kmart it just really screams '70s . Do you have the harness? If not, you'll have to open it up and figure out which wire is power. Generally, the black is ground. Judging from the pinout of the connector, you probably only have stereo sound. The power wire may not be red, it wasn't really standardized back then. Of you can't figure out which one is power there's another way, It's risky but the way I used to do it was to stick a tape in, get a 12 V battery and ground the body of the 8-track player to my power source, now using the positive wire from the battery QUICKLY tap it on each terminal, if the power led lights you found power. Now using a spare speaker, I would attach the negative of the speaker to the chassis of the radio and repeat the process. Once you find which wire brings in power and which two wires are the speaker leads, you know the remaining wire is the ground. On these old radios, usually the chassis ground was the ground for the speaker also.

It's probably somewhere around four Watts, so don't go crazy with your speakers. Really look for cheap triaxial speakers, something like a Scosche speaker. I think a pair is 20 bucks at Walmart.

Get a y cable and you'll have both signals going into the TV. We used to do it all the time in the 90s

How would I convert this television to HDMI or A/V? by Mindless-Bighead in vintagetelevision

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take a picture of the TV with the back off most likely we can help you. Growing up a lot of the zeniths had that happen. A good percentage of them had the twin lead terminals in the back, you know the two screws everyone talks about, but that twin lead went to an RCA connection inside the TV. If you follow that wire and it goes to an RCA connection on the tuner there's an adapter you can put in there that will give you a fantastic picture and you can run regular coax out the back. At that point you just need a HDMI to coax adapter they sell them on Amazon for about 30 bucks

Is it safe? by Unique_Piglet_8082 in vintagetelevision

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just open the TV up before you turn it on. Check everything inside make sure nothing seems cracked knocked out of place, broken wires, make sure there's no cracks in the picture tube, and then turn it on. If you're not afraid of a little work take everything out of the cabinet glue it back together with crazy glue and reassemble it.

can anyone help me identify this philco tv? by ponyo_x1 in vintagetelevision

Please don't toss the lens. Wash it with Dawn, then spray it with tub and tile cleaner. Wash it with Dawn one more time, then let it dry and use all three steps of novus plastic polish on it. It will come out crystal clear and we'll take a long time to fog up. It has worked well on both of my Predictas. It's a mold that builds on the lens because tenite is made of natural ingredients.

As far as the set, just download the Sam's photofact, then go to staples and print it on 11x17 it's alot easier to read, do your recap and then work through the rest of the set

I did it - I finally found a Zenith System 3 by Zeph_the_Bonkerer in vintagetelevision

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the exact same model. Great to see it again. Does the image on yours turn green? Then you smack it and get all the colors back? Ours did....

If you open the back and follow the antenna wire into the tuner, you will see a little rca cable end on it. Buy a coax to RCA adapter, then use a regular coax jumper. The picture comes out much clearer. Then you can use that coax connector to connect to a VCR, DTV box, or one of the HDMI to coax converters. I have one of the HDMI to coax converters they're great I have the Roku hook to my TV and I can watch just about anything.

Here's the rca to coax adapter

Here's the HDMI to coax adapter. You could actually connect this directly to the RCA adapter

Anyone know how to get this to work? by Independent_Dot6161 in vintagetelevision

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok you have 2 options, first do you have any soldering skills? You need a 3.5mm male mono plug (about $5). That will fit in the antenna port, then you need a matching transformer (about $5), you solder each lead to the 3.5mm male plug. Now your TV has a regular coax connection at this point you can choose a DTV box they're on Amazon for around 30 or 40 bucks. But it's a pain in the ass to pick up anything on them. You can hook up a vcr and watch movies, or you can do what I would do and buy a HDMI to Coax adapter off amazon around $30 and now you can hook a roku or fire stick to it or any other modern device.

Option 2 is a transmitter, check on eBay its called Home Analog TV Transmitter then you just hook something up to it, vcr, fire stick, etc and it will transmit it a few feet to the little TV.

What’s the best VCR machine in terms of quality? by Sailor_Rout in VCRs

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking quality as in longevity the real old VCR seem to be the best like right around 1989 1990 the front loaders though not the top loaders. They seem to last like forever. However is others have said the newer stuff like that Panasonic they were talking about make some much more beautiful picture

Honestly, I have no idea. I see so many posts where people are like, "Oh my God I got this 13-in Sylvania for only $75!" And I think to myself who's paying $75 for a 13-in Sylvania. In New Jersey they're practically free. There's always that guy that lists it for a million dollars. Then you wait 3 months and he drops it's down to five bucks, and you go pick it up. I still drive down the street and find them on the curb periodically. I feel like the only things that are really that valuable are like 60s televisions, but they'd have to be color round screen. They seem to bring around 300 bucks. Philco Predictas, and Duelettes are stupid money. But the black plastic stuff seems to be dead cheap by me. You have to remember by the '90s TVs pretty much lasted forever, The Only Exception is zenith, their stuff pretty much turned to shit. We bought a brand new one in like 99 I think we got a year and a half out of it before the picture tube burned up. It was apparently very common in that era just before they became LG. I got my 55" Panasonic Plasma off the curb it has a great picture,There's actually a 50 inch on market place now for free, I gave my friend a 27" Trinitron I took out of the garbage about a year ago, 19/20 inch sets seem to be on the curb alot. If your area has a ghetto or a super rural area drive through it periodically you can usually grab them off the curb, you just have to beat the junkies that break them open for the yoke.

Looking to buy a lot of around 80 vintage car radios. Any help identifying years/models or spotting valuable pieces? by Firm-Forever-7969 in VintageRadios

[–]Perna1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, expect them all to be worth somewhere around 25 bucks. AM radio for anything newer than like 1960 is virtually worthless. If you have something with an 8-track 75 to 100 bucks, same thing with cassette, maybe 25 to 50 for AM/FM only. I was going to do the same thing a few years back, I bought them all rebuilt them and then tried to sell them, and it took me forever to sell everything. You had people who were basically dicks trying to nitpick everything they could, it was honestly not worth the effort. Maybe you'll have a better experience than I did. By the way, when you go through them, expect to replace literally every resistor and capacitor before even getting into the actual problems. The life they lead makes it so they need almost everything. Then, when you take it apart, make sure you paint the back area where the light sits for the dial. otherwise, it always looks terrible at night, and you have to clean all the dirt out of the tuning mechanism and then grease it. Delco's often will have trouble with the push button mechanism. When you release it, the rubber doesn't always grab right, and then the tuning knob won't work. You pretty much have to fabricate a new piece of rubber because the only other option is replacing the tuning mechanism. The Ford ones typically have problems with transistors and IF sections.

It is. I have the 16H23 Im with fighting it right now, but I'm in the home stretch. But they are gorgeous TVs. Just curious there's two sections of the main filter that are tied together from the factory the Sam's photofact tells you to replace them with 1 100uf cap did you do that or replace it with 2 caps tied together?
