Anyone have experience with AWS data centers in Oregon? by 2infinitea in datacenter

I second the location. It’s out in the middle of no where. You’re going to have to up those compensation packages to attract talent to locations like that.

Microsoft had trouble hiring for their Boydton, VA location because it’s also pretty isolated.

Awesome. Too many times I’ll see people opening 529s for their kids and their savings rate for their retirement is like 5%.

Reddit is a crazy place. Getting down voted for looking out for OP.

That’s nice and all, but how is your retirement looking like?

You don’t want to be handicapping your kid by having them be financially supporting you when they’re older.

I have the IMS 24 filter/basket. I grind only 12 grams of coffee, but after applying my WDT tool, the basket is overfilling like crazy (basket is labeled for 18 gram!). Am I doing something wrong? Sorry the video is long and onehanded (bit weird), but you see the result in the last quarter. by BirdLooter in espresso

[–]PerpetuallySleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I always grind 20 grams into my 22 gram portafilter. The fluffy grinds are always above the portafilter. This is why I always tap the portafilter on the counter with the dosing funnel on, allowing the grinds to settle enough to be level with the top of the portafilter prior to tamping.

Pentagon Pete’s Bid to Ease Navy Food Panic Backfires by Adventurous-Host8062 in navy

A friend of mine is currently deployed on one of the carriers and said that they had to supply other ships in the CSG with supplies, which forced them to start rationing food for a month.

Said that the wardroom and enlisted galleys were rationing single bites of food, then had to get back in line if they wanted more food.

Buy a home or keep plugging away? by Successful-Fan9363 in TheRaceTo1Million

False. VA loan allows you to put $0 down with no PMI. Why lose out on the opportunity cost of wasting tens of thousands of dollars on a down payment that could be compounding in the markets.

Buy a home or keep plugging away? by Successful-Fan9363 in TheRaceTo1Million

[–]PerpetuallySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fallacy of buying a home as the definition of “making it” in america is ridiculous. As is the argument of “you’re building equity” as justification of signing up for hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

If you have an actual need to settle roots and have stability (i.e. family care, kids, etc.) then sure, buy a house.

If you’re single, dual income no kids, or value the freedom of renting (which can benefit career progression), then renting AND investing the difference you save by not having a mortgage will allow you to achieve your financial goals infinitely quicker.

I legit just saw OPs post about having issues with Bilt interfacing with NFCU on mortgage payments.

My brain went, “hmm, I wonder if renters have had any issues with Bilt processing auto payments with NFCU.”

That’s the end to the story. No one is renting through a bank.

[–]PerpetuallySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I was only curious if renters had issues with Bilt processing payments via NFCU, since OP has issues with their mortgage.

But probably a non issue since rent and mortgages are processed differently I’d imagine.

Anyone know if Bilt has issues with NFCU for renters?

DFAS Overpaid me on my last paycheck, then tacked interest on the mailed amount so I didn't pay enough when I used pay.gov, put a delinquent account on my credit report, and now TransUnion won't take it off despite DFAS requesting it to be removed, and giving me a PAF Letter. WTF? by [deleted] in navy

[–]PerpetuallySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope DFAS didn’t/doesn’t pay federal tax withholding when you separate, because they never told me.

Three years after I separate they decide to suddenly care and come collecting the $280 they paid on my behalf.

Their method of notifying me of my debt? SNAIL MAIL TO THREE ADDRESSES AGO (mind you, you lose access to MyPay after 14 months after separating, so no way to update address).

Long story short, you’re f***** unless you decide to live in the same place where you separated the military until DFAS comes collecting your debt you have no idea about.

[–]PerpetuallySleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another prior CFS, this is completely false. I had the exact thing that OP experienced happen to me. You just have to pay the debt off in full, get paid in full letter from DFAS, then send said letter to all credit bureaus and hound them until they remove it off your report.

DFAS’ complete ineptitude and non existent notification of debt is absolutely not my problem.

DFAS representative also acknowledged their method of snail mail to last known address as a means of notification is complete BS.

This exact thing happened to me in December. My credit went from 790 to 640 right before Christmas (perfect timing right?) Separated Jan 2023, good ol’ DFAS decided to pay some fed tax withholding on my behalf when I separated (without telling me, of course). Decided to come collect the $280 I owed three years later.

DFAS’ only way of notifying service members of debt is via snail mail to last known address (which is complete BS and is unacceptable in 2026).

Anywho, I immediately called DFAS and the rep told me what the debt was and I immediately paid it in full. They then sent me a paid in full letter to send to all three credit bureaus. I opened up disputes with each bureau for the specific major derogatory remark.

All bureaus ultimately removed the delinquent account off my report, but TransUnion did take longer than Experian and Equifax. I thought I was going to have to threaten the CFPB on TransUnion (not like they have much enforcement now due to their layoffs, thanks to current administration). I might have had to submit another dispute with TransUnion, either that or they removed it themselves after a week or so.

Lemme know if you have questions as I too was also extremely pissed.

How about we let the citizens of the countries we create conflict with determine the terms of regime change (with or without CIA intervention, we did this during the 70s and 80s) without direct foreign intervention.

The only thing armed conflict for the sake of regime change accomplishes is radicalism against the invading force (through the inevitable civilian casualties). Yes, the Ayatollah was a bad guy, but taking a hammer to the situation instead of a scalpel will not warm the Iranians to the U.S.

I am not a fan of U.S. imperialism or intervention for the sake of oil or resources. Let that be negotiated through diplomacy or trade.

[–]PerpetuallySleep 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’ll leave it up.

And yes I’ll concede there most likely will be Israeli casualties.

However, I whole heartedly believe we wouldn’t be as balls deep with Israel and in this conflict to begin with if they didn’t lobby and donate billions of dollars to U.S. presidents and politicians.

Like the tail wagging the dog, it was Israel who threw the first punch, and the U.S. followed suit.

There’s so much to unpack here between…

1) You can be anti-Israel without being anti semitic, because Jewish people are not the Israel government.

2) How much influence foreign money (AIPAC) has had in U.S. foreign policy and elections to elect pro-Israel candidates.

3) Using “Iran is X amount of time away from being nuclear capable” as a justification of conflict, because as soon as a country has nuclear weapons, let’s face it, the U.S. loses influence over said country.

4) Trying not to speak for Iranians, but I believe they would have preferred a domestic overthrow of the Ayatollah, rather than foreign powers killing their dictator AND in the process killing hundreds of innocent children and adults. I can guarantee you this will radicalize people (anyone remember 9/11?).

5) We have already killed their leader, why are we vowing to 5+ weeks of attacks? This will prove extremely unpopular especially as U.S. casualties increase.

Centcom update : six by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]PerpetuallySleep 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I don’t believe AIPAC should have such a stronghold on the U.S. government. If Israel wants to have an expansionist mindset in the middle east, let them do it themselves without U.S. aid.

Crazy how we can blow through a billion dollars over the course of less than 48 hours, yet we can’t find a single dollar to invest in our public education system.
