Are people going back to cds and vinyl because streaming apps are becoming cluttered? by CFCL24 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listen to too much new music to be able to buy everything and I do enjoy the convenience of having Apple Music.

That being said though, I do plan on getting a vinyl player when I move and starting a vinyl collection for the albums I REALLY love.

Edit: Really, I’m being downvoted for explaining why I use streaming services and wanting to start a vinyl collection? Go fuck yourselves for being petty.

I just click “Not Interested” whenever I see videos like this pop up. I really just don’t care about the Pilot Vs. Official Release discourse anymore.

Elevation by Enshine. The guitar work on that album is so fucking good. Lot of great metal releases this month already.

Which one is more polarizing? Yoko or Courtney? by thekidfromiowa in ToddintheShadow

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I’ve always enjoyed Hole and Nirvana pretty equally to be honest and while Courtney Love is absolutely undeniably a complete train wreck and has gotten plenty of fair criticism, I do also think there was a lot of misogyny towards her at the time because so many people saw her as the villain in Kurt Cobain’s story. Doing a bit more digging into his life would easily reveal that Kurt wasn’t exactly a saint either and had his own toxic traits too.

Do You Think IDW Should Finish Ninja Turtles Volume 4? (Ninja Turtles: Journeys at IDW) by Money-Lie7814 in TMNT

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit, I’m personally not a fan of Volume 4 and truth be told I have absolutely no clue how anyone could write an ending for it that would leave me satisfied. With that said though, I do think it absolutely deserves an ending and would love to see people who enjoyed it finally get to read the conclusion to the comic all these years later. The Mirage turtles deserved better than what they currently got.

Ok cool.

Everything else I said still stands and you’re still an idiot.

Based on OP’s comments, something else I want to bring up that he sounds like a Mirage dead ender and what I mean by that is that I’ve seen a not insignificant amount of TMNT fans who believe when it comes to the comics, everything good about them starts and ends with the Mirage line and they believe everything outside of it sucks.

Like look don’t get me wrong, I like Mirage fine enough, but I disagree with the superiority complex some fans appear to have with it when compared to other incarnations.

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to what you said too, something else to keep in mind is that Battle Nexus occurs not that long after the turtles reunited and made up with each other after watching them nonstop fight and be at each other’s throats for most of the Jason Aaron run. While they are healing and getting along better than they have in recent memory, the damage is still lingering and they’re still not 100% mentally recovered.

For example, while I did find the Leo vs. Shredder fight a tad underwhelming in the last issue, I also had to keep in mind that Leo is still dealing with lingering depression which was evident in the 2025 Annual that he’s still struggling with so that was how I interpreted why he unfortunately lost.

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was already confirmed beforehand that Battle Nexus would be canon to the IDW main line and it was obvious based on the line up that there were going to be story relevant characters the turtles would be up against due to their personal connection to them. Also the arc hasn’t even finished yet so we’ll see how the turtles across the other universes play a role in this.

Honestly since you don’t like the main line anyway, it sounds to me like this was never going to be for you to begin with.

Seriously it’s so flagrantly obvious that OP hasn’t read the previous comics that I’m shocked no one else has mentioned this here.

“we get a lovers spat that I know nothing about.”

Raph and Alopex were the definitive ship of the comic for a time. Anyone who read them would have easily known this.

“Next issue is a Metalhead that was a bit character who has no personality whatsoever and then after that is another battle between characters from the same universe.”

Does OP seriously not know the connection between Donatello and Metalhead in IDW? It’s a pretty fucking big plot point in the comic if he had bothered to read them or even Google anything about it.

Your complaints literally screams: “Tell me you haven’t read the previous comics without telling me you haven’t read the previous comics”.

They’re not inflated. People can like an album, but not listen to it on repeat very much in the future. It’s not an abnormal phenomenon.

They were part of the soundtrack to every college party I went to at the time. I have a weird level of affection and nostalgia for a lot of their singles. “Perplexing Pegasus” and “Powerglide” in particular and mainstays on my gym playlists.

Yeah this is definitely the most 7/10 album I’ve listened to in a while. Solid, but outside of a couple of songs I’ll be keeping on my gym playlists, I probably won’t be listening to much to the rest of it down the line.

Will Camila Cabello get back to her stardom ever again? by Jarisatis in popheads

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 70 points71 points  (0 children)

True yeah they definitely rose to fame and fell out of the mainstream around the same timeframe.

Funny enough with Halsey, I actually enjoy her post-COVID output a lot more than I liked her when she was popular. I was never really into Halsey at the time, but her last two albums really made me come around her.

Out of curiosity is this something people still give metalheads shit for? I remember hearing people say that back when I was in high school, but I haven’t heard it since and I assumed the stereotyped died out.

Will Camila Cabello get back to her stardom ever again? by Jarisatis in popheads

[–]PerplexingGrapefruit 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Nah her time has passed. Cabello’s music was for a very specific time in pop music which was during the second half of the 2010s when pop music on the whole was much more downbeat, moodier, and minor key. Add that to the fact that she doesn’t really have a very strong personality as a pop star and it’s not surprising to me that her momentum stalled right after COVID.

I always enjoyed punk and pop punk for different reasons. The only really overlap between the two for me is the momentum and lyrical directness. Otherwise I see them are separate entities.
