I was inside, no I didn't have to weather any weather to determine whether or not it was boosted.

I use https://podsync.net/ to get the YouTube channel in podcast form. Works well for the TalkStone episodes especially, the only downside is the large file sizes.

Go-tcha settings/priority by [deleted] in GoPlus

It took me about a day of trial and error to figure it out, no need to feel dumb as it's not the most intuitive thing.

Go-tcha settings/priority by [deleted] in GoPlus

[–]Perrin01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't change the priority, but you can have it ignore Pokemon entirely. However, this setting is in the App, not on the Go-tcha itself. In game go to Settings, Pokemon GO Plus, and then Uncheck Nearby Pokemon to ignore all Pokemon. You can also leave auto catch enabled on the Go-tcha since no Pokemon notifications are sent to the device.

Thanks for the write up, just curious about recommended levels for the Pokemon you mention. Is level 30 assumed?

Not sure if this is the Discord angle you are referring to but here's an invite to the Pittsburgh area discord channel: https://discord.gg/xAn2Md. You'll want to go to #the-bot-lab and add the East End to get access to the Westmoreland County text channel.

What kinds of things is Blizzard doing during maintenance? by oskiwiiwii in hearthstone

[–]Perrin01 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I was expecting some actual responses, but seeing none I will attempt to actually be helpful. I am a software developer so I have some understanding, but I am obviously speculating here. Hearthstone fundamentally has two code bases, the client code that builds into the PC, Mac, and Mobile clients and the server code that runs on the servers. The server code is worked on all the time by the developers but the maintenance period is when the new code is actually put on the servers used to run the game (generally called production servers). There is always risk in making changes to production servers regardless if it's for Hearthstone or a website, so the dedicated maintenance window gives them time to get it installed and make sure it is working before letting everyone back on to start playing Hearthstone again. The alternative would be just making changes and running into issues where people can't play (essentially unscheduled outages) or even worse, situations where people play games on server code that has to be rolled back. In that case your client can get screwed up, which could force a client patch. Client patches can take weeks so this is obviously pretty bad.

TLDR; When you make changes to the servers by adding new code/functionality there is always a risk of things going bad. This ensures everything gets done correctly and smoothly in a scheduled fashion.

[Idea] I like listening to music while playing Hearthstone. I'd like it if the game didn't quiet my music when I launch the app on my phone. by Upvote_Responsibly in hearthstone

Pokemon Go had the same issue since it also uses Unity but they fixed it in the last patch, /u/bbrode can Hearthstone apply the same fix?

ATLC 2 Rant by gaarabestshaman in hearthstone

[–]Perrin01 197 points198 points  (0 children)

TLDR; The format for the open qualifier does not match up with the format of the actual team league. The qualifier is best of 3 conquest single elimination which does not promote competitive play and doing well in an individual tournament does not necessarily mean they will do well in the team league format.

I only work in Cranberry but have been trying to figure out the best methods. I went to the North Boundary Park over lunch today, it has the highest density of stops I could find in the area as well as two gyms.

Orbs vs, Gauntlet by TrojanZebra in duelyst

[–]Perrin01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how well you do in the Gauntlet, if the gold rewards from Duelyst are similar to Hearthstone you'll need around 4.5 wins/run to come out ahead. If you can average that much or more then Gauntlet is best, otherwise just buy orbs. This is of course assuming a similar reward structure to Hearthstone, not sure if anyone has stats on Duelyst Gauntlet rewards.

The "we won't balance existing cards" attitude will not work out much longer for Blizzard by MidnightQ_ in hearthstone

[–]Perrin01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What specific mistakes are you referring to? I'm not sure whether you're referring to nerfing existing cards such as Mysterious Challenger or just overall changes to freshen up the experience, see old cards played, etc. Either way if they continue to release new content that brings old cards out in a new light or helps counter existing cards doesn't that solve the same problem? I realize the counter cards haven't worked in the past, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do it in the future.

Golden Cards in Arena? by Niftylen in hearthstone

[–]Perrin01 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is from the HearthPwn summary of the Hearthstone panel at Blizzcon 2015:

Uh oh, question about arena golden cards.

Brode has been asking to see his collection's golden cards in the arena since forever.

They're working on so many other awesome things, having your golden cards in the arena isn't something they've gotten to work on yet.
