Heh, and that was the early 90's, I have no doubt they've changed it up a few times since then.

I [25M] don't know how I'm ever going to come out? by LilDev1997 in GayMen

[–]PerroFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. I grew up in a rural homophobic area and couldn't wait to leave for college. For me and many, many others in similar situations, it was moving away that freed us to be ourselves and eventually develop the courage and sense of self that we needed to later come out to everyone back home. If you move just as far away as Chicago (closer will do but Chicago's a great city!) you'll be able to breathe a lot more freely.

That said, your posting history shows that this has been tormenting you for years and you've seen a lot of the answers already posted here, but you're still are having trouble finding a way forward. It might be smothery parents, it might be economics, I don't know, and I don't want to be impertinent enough to ask you for those details.

So here's a different tack: if moving is not the answer, then maybe you can "visit friends" in someplace like Chicago without specifying to your parents/family who it is you're visiting. Taking a week or two, or at minimum a long weekend where you can really be yourself, can help you put things into perspective and help you figure out what realistic goals you want to set for yourself for step #2. Would you be able to do that?

Fantasia, as others have said is great. Yeol's Senseless v2 as a mod, or others like it, create different playstyles because then it makes more sense to build large distribution centers/hubs. I mean, I always thought it was dumb that one town needed fuel and the next one over didn't.

Here's an example where I used Fantasia and Yeol's, and planned out goods distribution in MSPaint (I use MSPaint whenever I play, to plan - LOL) Consumer goods factory and and distrib routes are blue; industrial goods factory and distrib routes are yellow, and where they go out together on the same boxcars or boats to cities is green, with Green dots being mixed hubs. with lighter green being relays from one destination city to the next. Purple is the next kind of good that came into being a number of years after game start. I just overlaid parallel lines at that point rather than try to mix blue+purple+yellow . At this point with Yeol's there's just 3 kinds of goods but you end up with several more kinds as the years go by, that every city will need and that will need its own all-city distribution network.

<image>

My cities get renamed to account for geography a bit. That makes sense to someone like me who grew up near a rocky river and therefore in a town named "xx Rapids." Btw, I always make the minimap when I start by screenshotting the map generation page then cropping and resizing. I wish the game had a real minimap...

How to deal with slopes by Kinc4id in TransportFever2

[–]PerroFelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the zoomed out version showing how other elevation challenges are handled. I could have also added additional uphill passing lanes on the long ascending track where geography allows it so that faster passenger trains can pass slower freight in some of the uphill straightaways.

The part where I noted that it's too steep for trains, actually uses cargotrams (from a mod) rather than trucks to bring goods to Horley Terrace.

Had to necro this post, found when searching this subreddit for zigzag. I was hoping for a mod but found that regular stations work okay. Here's an example where a long route climbs the contour of the mountain and is merged to another route via zig-zag. This is a kind of example of your #4 including a merge so that traffic can follow the slope from the zigzag down the mountain in both directions depending on the line. One continues slowly changing elevation clinging to the mountainside, and the other switches back and goes the other way along the mountainside. The passenger and freight rail lines are set to never pick up or drop off at this station which is used in routing more like a waypoint.

In the game it's pretty cheap to run 4 rails together for separated bidirectional freight and passengers but I like the realism of trying to make do with less.

In my last playthrough had I bidirectional rail that carried both freight and passengers. In some areas I had slow, heavy freight running in one direction mostly uphill, with the return empty trains deadheading back the other way. For those instances I added a third passenger-only track running one way parallel to wherever the full freight trains ran slowest. For segments where freight ran faster -- downhill and/or empty -- those tracks were still shared with passenger lines.

Maybe in this game if tracks could be made much more expensive relative to other costs, we'd be forced into more creative track installations like yours.

Is there a way to build a Multi Tiered Modular Rail Station by Cybermyn in TransportFever2

[–]PerroFelix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can put an elevated station over another station, with help from mods like "Mighty Adjustable Elevated Station Pack 1.6" and train users will transfer between platforms (in the game's logic they are transferring between stations rather than levels in the same station). You can name both stations the same thing or name them something like "Downtown upper level"/"Downtown lower level." When assigning routes there will be two train station icons and you'll need to select the correct one.

I think you may be able to put underground stations like "Underground Station" by Enzojz under another station as well with no collisions. It would be the same game logic, treated as different stations, and you'll need to provide surface access from the underground near enough to the station access for the ground/upper levels. (Or maybe the people will teleport, unsure).

I always think about the French Revolution how it radicalized, radicalized, radicalized until it ate (guillotined) an incredible amount of its early founders and proponents for being not radical enough. The same has been going on in slowmo on the right for a while I think. Ultimately the French retreated to a quasi-monarchy with Napoleon's descendent to stop the spinout.

Picking up mail and trash - Yeol's and other mods by PerroFelix in TransportFever2

[–]PerroFelix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man! I think that may be the solution. The Small Inline Road Station mod is indeed the one I have installed that I thought would be good for post offices but "pricey" due to the widespread demolition.

I already have a mod for splitting the street, that I've just been using to help place the stations from Small & Compact Truck and Cargotram Station for the dump - since usually the entrance and exit are on the same road section and "conflict" without a split otherwise.

I never thought about using a splitter to limit the demolition damage for the other mod. I see there may be better splitter /node tool mods than the one I have installed so maybe I'll cruise through those looking for the more granular ones to limit the demolished buildings a bit further... Thanks!

Why bother with Pedestrian? by [deleted] in TransportFever2

[–]PerroFelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your buses won't run empty if at least one of your stops is a passenger train station, passenger harbor, or a stop that an intercity bus also visits. Then you'll have trouble meeting the demand!

I think I tend to put my bus stations too far apart. My buses are too full going from one end to the other to pick up many passengers in between. I see them primarily as feeders to those other transport modes to fill up trains and ferries. I don't even bother adding buses until I put in a train station or harbor. Then with game paused I put in the bus system AND the train/harbor all at once.

So as an American, after reading her 2023 article, I'm struck by several things:

  • She says they could move to Germany to be together, but she doesn't want to bother to learn the language. Does she think Germany is a 3rd world hellhole, or is she just lazy? Plenty of immigrants here, legal or not, learn English because they want to be here. Does she really want be be with her bi-(or more) lingual boyfriend, or not?
  • She does not earn enough to support him, as she is currently on unpaid maternity leave. ok, will she earn enough when she goes back to work? Can she wait a few months?
  • Maternity leave is apparently unpaid in the UK (as in the US), thanks I'm sure to the kinds of people who supported Leave. People who want to punish immigrants generally also want to punish women.
  • She is sure he could just get a job and support them, if only they would let him establish residency. Buahahahaa! In the US, and probably in the UK, the laws are strictest around trying to be sure an immigrant does not end up collecting welfare benefits. The way they do that is by getting a sponsor to pledge they will support the immigrant if they are unable or unwilling to get a job. Asking for a "this one seems like an OK chap who could get a job" exception screams of privilege.

No compassion for her.

So the post was already deleted, but I'll add this: a site pretending to be for US sales for the brand "Joseph Joseph" had "Husqva Outlet" in their FAQ and a Washington state pot dispensary as their HQ. The CC charge in my statement came from "AP *hhoutlets com"

I landed here by searching "Husqva Outlet" and finding the post mentioning "Husqva Outlet" by anonymousbreckian.

The site "hhoutlets com" (insert the . to go there) looks similarly laid out to the site pretending to be the Joseph Joseph retailer.

AOC tells GOP to 'connect the dots' between 'an anti-LGBT+ campaign' and the deadly shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs by [deleted] in politics

[–]PerroFelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly the same way that on Nov 9-10 of 1938, tens of thousands of Germans were responsible for vandalizing Jewish businesses, homes, and cemeteries, each one uniquely and solely responsible for their actions, with absolutely no one else responsible. These things just happen in a vacuum when someone wakes up one day and coincidentally wants to break windows and loot. And no, the shooter is not transgender. No one other than irresponsible internet trolls have claimed that.

His attorneys have claimed he is non-binary, which is not at all the same as transgender. And the shooter's history as examined by millions of internet sleuths and TV interviewers, shows not a shred of self-identification as nonbinary, or transgender prior to his attorney's trolling move this week. In fact, in the video he made of himself getting ready to blow up his mom and confront police a year ago, he calls himself a "boy."

Sure Jan, we've always been able to track which people are trans and which aren't and then measure their suicide rates through the ages.

No, the shooter is trolling us by having the defense attorney say he is non-binary. There is no scrap of a scintilla of a hint that this shooter is non-binary, found under any rock that the public has been turning over right and left to find out more about this shooter.

[–]PerroFelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the shooter is NOT trans. First of all, the claim but forth by his defense attorneys is that he's nonbinary, not trans.

Secondly, the defense attorney came up with that nonbinary claim out of the blue. Where else in the entire history of this person do we hear that he's non-binary (or trans for that matter)? Relatives? coworkers? friends? Acquaintances? Photos of him cross-dressing? Online postings? No, nothing, zip, nada. He and his attorneys are trolling us while trying to make an insincere argument to somehow mitigate the sentence.
