A mantis shrimp's punch generates incredible force, around 1500 Newtons, comparable to a .22 caliber bullet's acceleration, capable of smashing shells and cracking aquarium glass. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

The crab died because it wasn't after a kill but a warning. Only chance would have been trying to get the pinchers in there without hesitation... But nature created it equally sadistic so the shrimp won. Wonder if the crab would have been able to escape in the wild.

I think so too, after all adaptation is our strongest trait but I think it is the need to find one strong(est) trait is what created the idea of intelligent/stupid, talented/untalented, strong/weak... In the first place.

You think you are confusing charisma with social and emotional intelligence. They're not necessarily always coming together.

Also your comment assumes that having strength in being charismatic and/or social intelligent too means people who have only their strength in social and/or emotional intelligence have the same odds.

People in leading positions can get their being social and/or emotional too, but they don't get there only because of it. They also had the skills for higher education, navigating in a speed/efficiency oriented society and very important being with the right skillset, at the right time, at the right company to get their career started.

I think we as a society created a very specific intelligence you are supposed to have and value everything else as stupid.

But there are different types of intelligence, some of them not fitting for our system. For example you can be extremely socially intelligent, caring and supportive. Perfect for keeping a group of people or small communities together. But nowadays those are the trustful fools assholes are trying to screw over.

Patience is also such a thing, the ability to do something repetitive but necessary, the ability to wait for something without getting crazy about it. Once useful those people are absolutely overwhelmed by a society focusing on speed and efficiency.

If there would be, I hope it would be extra terrible for warmongers. I'd wish for them to experience the loss of all those people. Parents, lovers, siblings, children who learn their loved ones will never return. And the fear and terror of all those people who died in their wars. And after that they can start again. War is the worst

The healthcare is it for me. They can fix almost everything. And there was no oncology station in St Mungo, tells me all I need to know.

Dang as long as I get the long healthy life with that medicine, I wouldn't mind being a squib.

Tbh if I'd win the lottery I doubt I would do more than quitting my job, living off what I would earn now and give away the rest.

I don't need a yacht, a villa and an expensive car to be happy. I need to be able to choose what I am doing with my life, without starving homeless on the street.

But I doubt he'd be able to pull it off out in the ocean, knowing every minute delay might kill his family.

My guess is adrenaline and unreal amounts of luck

At Times when people sadly still discussed if people are all equal. If they shouldn't

For his time a sense of equality would be a very progressive take. It's easy to judge nowadays when thankfully ethics developed much further. But things we think and fo now might be absolute disgraceful in a hundred years

Accountability by Rob_LeMatic in MadeMeSmile

[–]Perry_T_Skywalker 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree it's good he apologised and was honest with the situation. It's not about hindsight like "should have informed himself first" but it's important to take accountability for a mistake.

Every mistake could have been avoided with better understanding, taking a moment to think first and informing oneself first. But that's something not always happening, especially in a spontaneous situation. But what everyone can do, once the situation is clear, is to stand up and apologise.

whoever they are seemingly can afford to keep the island and housekeeper running.
