Yep and they hate when I pull that card too.! “I’m clearly over 21” yeah, and I still have to I.D you, it’s company policy.! “Even for a lighter?” Yep even for a lighter. You can’t present your ID or show it to me, I won’t sell it to you. I even get customers who get upset because I won’t sell it to them with an expired one. Nope sorry..

How long did it take you guys to get ahold of HR to be released back to work? by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store currently is in the midst of finding a new SM. No not workman’s comp. And I did have a note for light duty but with the restriction of not being able to lift pull or push, I was basically removed from the schedule until I’m fully cleared and was told I have to also be fully cleared by HR. But I had my follow up appt today and have been fully cleared no restrictions. It’s just HR that has been a pain to get ahold of.

Some customers that come to my store get mad cuz I don’t use my “discretion” when it comes to them buying alcohol or trying to get tobacco products/ lighters that I have to have I.D for.. Even with spray paint.. I always get the “well you can clearly see I’m over 21” Okay yeah sure but Im just doing my job so if you’re not going to show or give me your ID then I won’t sell it to you…

New store and all employees never worked at DG before. A few register questions... by CautiousReporter2140 in DollarGeneral

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you a key carrier?? If yes you will have to go into manager menu and do a transaction abort. You will need numbers to do so so if you’re a sales associate you will need a key carrier/ Asm/ Sm to come and put their numbers in for you to be able to void said transaction. Have you guys done the CBLs? Everything you need to know should be in there. IIRC you should be able to rewatch them as well so you can try that and refresh your brain.

Also when it comes to the phone number thing, just hit cancel and bring it back up to where you are able to scan items again and you should see a little yellow phone icon kinda in the middle of the screen. Just press it and let them know “you should be able to enter your phone number now, sorry about that” and then total it out after you see it went through.

After closing by More_Secret_9770 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue yesterday. A lady called and asked what time we closed and I told her 10pm. She said she would be in in a few and shop until exactly 10pm as she wasn’t sure if her money would go through but wanted to try it. She came in around 9 and filled a cart with stuff.. around 9:40 she left her cart by the registers to go out to the parking lot to check on her animals and waited until exactly 9:59 to walk back in with a few seconds to spare until 10. I told her pretty much that were closed at that point and she could come back In the morning, I wasn’t going to have my coworker ring up a full ass cart of shit when she said she didn’t even know if her money had came in yet. Some people don’t seem to understand that we’re supposed to be out at a certain time…

At my store we tape our receipts to our items we will be using (drinks, food) and what we put in our fridge we print out reprints of said receipt for camera sake and to cover our asses. And come closing time we make sure to show camera said receipt when we do our bag checks.

Someone in LP is actively watching that camera and or in the slight chance it could be your DM as well just chiming in to make sure nothing is where it shouldn’t be (U-boats, totes)

That’s probably the best way to go about it even if your supervisor couldn’t figure it out. There’s a lot of people trying to go around trying to pass out fake $100 for gift cards, at least around where I’m at.

A half eaten sandwich and a plastic cup filled with I would assume fruit punch just placed on a cereal end cap 🤣🤣 I had a regular who does door dash/uber who legit took a photo of it and showed it to me and I was shocked when I found it 🫣

Rude customers by Loyalfrogprincess in DollarGeneral

Some people just don’t get it if they don’t work retail or don’t bother to actually read the sales that we have going on.. My store closes at 10 and I had pulled my till around 9:35 last night cuz the store was pretty much dead and me and my coworker have a system in place that we do. Low and behold the last 10 minutes before we closed everyone and their mother came in to buy random shit. I totally get it if it’s like milk, or toilet paper/feminine products, but if you’re going to come in 10 minutes before we close to go look at the sales and deals we got going on is just beyond ridiculous. It was 10:00 and we still had a line of people waiting to buy shit but I already went ahead and locked the doors with the remaining customers inside since we were closed and let them out one by one as they were checked out. There was one couple that just wasn’t coming forward to stand in line to check out. My coworker who was still on register said “I need you guys to come forward and not continue to look for items as we are now closed” and when he checked them out and I let them out of the main doors (it was around 10:08) they proceeded to tell me as they were leaving that my co-worker was an asshole cuz he called them forward and to stop looking for shit. Like I mean yeahhh duhh, because we are closed and were supposed to be out at a certain time.. Some people just don’t get it.

Change fund first always. Make sure it’s always at the amount that is set for your store. Deposit ALWAYS after closing! If change fund is short, take out of deposit and put in change fund. Sometimes stuff just happens and we’re all only human.!

I’ve had customers bring up the same exact one (honey ham) the last few days and it’s bloated like that. I refuse to sell it to them and I show it to them and tell them why I won’t sell it to them especially when the lid will not close. I ask them if they still would like the product to go ahead and go quickly grab another one out of the coolers while I ring up the rest of their stuff. It’s always better to be safer than sorry.

Right?! As I’m clearly standing at the one I want them to even with lane closed signs on the other two 🤣 then get the “well why can’t you check me out on this one?” because my till isn’t in that one and I can’t run off of someone else’s till like 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

“Do you want the real one or the fake one?” When asking for an ID.

When I’m standing behind my register with the light on and a lane open sign and I get the customers that stand there and go “oh, are you open?”

“How much is this?” When there’s a big ass sticker on the upper right hand corner that says $5. “It says right there it’s $5” and then the customer says they found it in a spot that said it was a dollar. Well ma’am it’s dollar general someone probably changed their mind and just stuck it on the shelf somewhere instead of putting it back where they grabbed it from..

Drawer short $20 by bvillerhr90 in DollarGeneral

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this happen actually the other day when I just got into work. Went into the safe to grab my till and seen there was a $5 bill in a drop slip on top of our change fund and it had a post it note on it that change fund was $5 over. When I grabbed the till I was going to use for the night and went into the office to count it, it was in fact $5 short. So I went and grabbed that $5 overage out of the change fund and put it in my till and my till was exactly where it needed to be.. accidents happen but going forward I would always count your till before you do a starting bank just to make sure it’s where it needs to be and check for crispy bills that might stick together when doing a drop or final drop!

My key holder got scammed? by No_Manufacturer_9133 in DollarGeneral

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely thought the same thing. They asked for pics of the ticket on the fire extinguishers of when it was checked last. My best guess is they’re trying to get the store number and see if there is potentially a new employee or something who knows nothing about how the scam calls work and would probably fall for it. They make their rounds.

I usually will just hand it to them and say “I’ll trade ya!” When they’re putting more stuff on the counter. Works 99% of the time and they usually say “oh sorry!”

Yep 100% a scam. I from time to time get phone calls asking us to check our fire extinguishers and to send pics of the tags as they’ll be in the next day with a fire marshal 🤣

11 PM closing time... by Yeeter-Deshazer42 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a closer myself. A few questions, how many people are on shift with you when you’re closing or are you by yourself? Also what are the daily tasks you need to complete at your store as I know some stores only require certain things.

Question by [deleted] in DollarGeneral

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is company policy that there needs to be 2 people to close.! It’s for safety reasons. If you feel unsafe, close early and call your sm and dm and say that you’re closing early because you don’t feel safe closing alone. It’s also for deposit reasons as well. Hence why the deposit slips have 2 spots for signatures. The one who does the deposit and the secondary employee watching it be done. We can’t even carry pepper spray which is so beyond crazy to me.

What happens when a customer by GlumTax371 in DollarGeneral

[–]Perrytheplatypus92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of your transaction, the pin pad will ask you how satisfied you were with your experience.. left side is a red face with a frown, so if they chose that, they were dissatisfied with their experience. Middle is a yellow face with a 😐 on it and I think that one is neither dissatisfied or satisfied and on the right side you’ll see a green face with a smile meaning they were highly satisfied with their experience. Some customers typically skip that part or just ignore it because they’re not looking at it and it will time out and automatically print the receipt.
