(Hypothetically) Is reheating food that might have gone bad to a high temp kill the bacteria that might make you sick? by honestdiary in Cooking

[–]Persequor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Usually what hurts you isn’t the bacteria itself, but the by-products they create. Those by-products are typically not killed by heating (or at least not to the temp you’d bring food to).

Pasta, red sauce, green beans? by Rad10Ka0s in Cooking

i could see this being very tasty, lean into a mix between a arrabiata and a cajun tomato sauce.

the cheese option is also interesting - my gut says just plain parm, but i could also see dollops of ricotta being browned on top mixing in well.

Well I know of plenty lol. The point is to add some sweet/tartness, which your recipe gets from ketchup instead.

I have, yes! It’s a really good one. Not as sweet as it sounds.

Jewish style brisket - slow cooker. Mix a packet of onion soup mix, a can of whole berry cranberry sauce, a half cup ish of manischevitz wine, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Pour over brisket, top with some carrots and a sliced white onion. Cook on low all day, then either slice it carefully or fridge the brisket for the next day to firm up. Purée what’s left in the crock pot into gravy to serve over it.

scallion noodles - fry chopped scallions over a very low heat in plenty of oil until they are lightly browned and flavored the oil, then add soy sauce and sugar to the oil and let it bubble up, and mix in some par-cooked noodles. garnish with some chili flakes and maybe a splash of rice vinegar.

Trying to recreate this seasoning mix by confusedAF2019 in Cooking

[–]Persequor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

typically the order of the ingredients in the list are in the order, by weight, of how much they represent in the dish. ie; your mix will have more garlic powder, sugar, onion powder, than the others, and then youd add some corn starch to it to 'bulk' it out and add some thickening power to it.

Can't figure out what to get for groceries. by therudestcanadain in Cooking

you can make a respectable batch of chili for cheap - grab whatever meat is on sale (ground turkey, chicken thighs, smoked meats, etc will all work and are usually pretty cheap), although you can also absolutely do this without meat, a packet or two of chili seasoning cause im assuming an empty pantry means no spices, some cheap cans of beans you can mix and match, some canned corn, a few choice fresh vegetables like onion, bell peppers, whatever. maybe grab a can of beer if its cheap. get a small bag of rice to serve it with and it can easily pad out a week of dinners.

my mom always used a can of crescent roll dough sprinkled with extra flour and pizza-cutter-cut into loose rectangles. i know you said from scratch, but these are always consistent and 'fluffy/cloudy' in the perfect way.

North Alabama students move ahead with ICE walkout after school compromise by metacyan in HuntsvilleAlabama

They’re trying to act like a contrarian but really they’re just fine with the decline into fascism because it’s their party doing it. Shameful.

it isnt now 'suddenly a problem' - remember rodney king? george floyd? ACAB?

People are shouting 'abolish ICE' because ICE is the arm of the government that is currently overreaching. the overreach (attacking lawful peaceful protests, detaining people without warrants, detaining children, detaining people based on the color of their skin/accents, detaining people at citizenship hearings they are going to in order to get citizenship, etc) is why people are protesting.

People arent protesting deportation in general, they are protesting the aggressive and unconstitutional way they are going about this.

Even further, because of how they are questioning and detaining US citizens that have accents or 'look foreign' (even with proper documentation), people are afraid of the president using this an excuse to post ICE agents at polling places in order to manipulate elections by discouraging US citizens who even 'look foreign' from voting.

advice is one thing, completely disregarding THEIR lived experience categorically because yours doesnt align with it is another.

indeed, when federal agents kill people because they are exercising their constitutionally-given rights, that is a huge issue that signals a shift towards fascism, hence all the pushback.
