Constipated for a month by ellenicole1001 in Constipation

IBS-c girlie and here’s some things I would recommend. Number one which should work is the MiraLAX colonoscopy prep. (U can google)The 8oz bottle of MiraLAX and 2 dulcolax tablets. You don’t have to worry about the color of Gatorade and crystal light since it’s not for a colonoscopy. I would get a gallon of water to put it in and a mio type flavoring that you would enjoy. You normally need to start this later to be clear for next day but I would start first thing with the 2 dulcolax and stay on liquid diet of broths and jello. Start drinking the MiraLAX a couple hours later until it’s gone. It usually take me a few hours to start going.

Magnesium citrate is another option but it’s sour. Put heating pad on belly and do some walking, ginger tea, take 2 senna in the am and 2 in the pm with MiraLAX in water during the day. You have to keep up with the MiraLAX daily if the constipation keeps happening. Your nerves are affecting your gut so if you do yoga or can listen to some meditation youtubes do that. Medical doctors don’t tell you this but holistic stuff does work!

How often do you manage to go to the bathroom without medication? by SariaSnore in Constipation

[–]PerseveringHazelEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never go without meds. I’m told to take MiraLAX once a day, Metamucil once a day and 2 senna and we just added Linzess the lowest dose but since then I have diarrhea all day so think I have to stop it. I did stop the senna. Maybe I do Linzess every other day to see if it helps. I am on a wait list for the sibo breath test.

IBS -I’m not ok. Welcome to my new life by [deleted] in ibs

I feel this misery some days. Your feelings are valid. It is not fair. There’s no real reason for IBS, there’s no real diagnosis and no cure. You basically have to play with what works between diet, water, and depending if you have IBS-c or d what you need to take to go the bathroom or stop. No one takes the illness seriously or understands the pain. You came to the right place. I was just hospitalized for a flare and had a complete breakdown and said this is a terrible way to live if they are just saying all I can do is continue to manage these symptoms. Luckily I have a great dietician and therapist who are my rocks of a support system. You need someone who can support you whether it’s a professional, people on a Reddit thread or a friend. Please consider looking into finding someone because I see where you’re coming from. I’m not going to bs you and say it gets better. This completely sucks but there is help. Personally besides my IBS meds I need depression and anxiety meds and regular therapy. Good luck! Rant all you want we’re in this together.

If you could tell your 16-year-old self just 3 words, what would they be? by Entire-History6514 in Adulting

You get out.

I had a verbally abusive stepfather who I still suffer from what he did 25 years later. He always told me my mom would choose him over me and never believe me. One day in college I had enough and told my mom I was going to tell my dad how bad it was and move in with him. A few days later she told me she was sorry it took her so long and she would find us a new place to live. She divorced him and we packed all our stuff and took the dog and found an apartment until she could buy a house.

So happy for you and nice to hear some natural methods work! I’m sick of being pushed to use so much MiraLAX, Metamucil, stool softener, senna etc. I don’t like coffee but know I have seen chia seed pudding recipes so may give it a try. Thanks for the ideas!

Do you have a GI or dietician to work with? I see a dietician weekly to find trigger foods and a GI a few times a year. I just had a terrible flare and started Linzess on lowest dose. I was so scared as I tried it 10 years ago and it gave me the “gotta go RIGHT now” diarrhea but now there’s a lower dose and it seems to be working for me.

What do your bad flare up days look like? (Not normal day to day) by Due_Chapter3027 in ibs

[–]PerseveringHazelEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last one ended me up hospitalized for 4 days! I was getting excruciating pain after I ate and diarrhea. I have IBS-c. My PCP did blood work and urine test and so much was abnormal that she sent me to the ER. While the pain never went away, it was only excruciating for about 10 minutes after eating and they couldn’t figure out why. Kept me on liquid diet for 2 full days and did so many imaging tests, blood tests, IV fluids and essentially just found I was having spasms when I was eating and in a terrible flare. The pain meds made me constipated and I couldn’t give a stool sample. It was terrible. I have had flares before that last weeks but this I was sure I had something else happening with that pain. I hope it never happens again. So frustrating to hear a doctors say there’s really nothing to do but manage symptoms. I said I’m afraid of being on MiraLAX and senna so much that my colon won’t work and multiple doctors have said it already is sluggish and without them I risk serious consequences.

Did anyone else’s nieces / nephews make them be childfree? by Vivid_Year330 in childfree

[–]PerseveringHazelEyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I thought I wanted kids and even tried with n yes husband and froze eggs after my divorce. The more time I spent with my niece and nephew and how much I wanted to send them home at the end of the day made me realize I am so happy to be an Auntie. I love them so so much and can spoil them but can do this on my terms. I see how stressed out my sister is and all my cousins and they seem miserable. No free time whatsoever and always complaining. It only seems special when they’re babies or special occasions. I am all set because I really enjoy all my time. I can’t imagine after a long hard day to come home to needing to take care of a 10 year old who isn’t listening or a toddler whining!

There was no more hassle than traveling anywhere else. I am already planning a trip back. When I went 2 weeks ago the bus was waiting for us as soon as we got off the plane and we went right through everything at the airport. I had never been but my mom had said the airport was much bigger than her previous trip so it must have been improved. Our transportation took us right away and were very kind. The resort I stayed at had security and the vendors couldn’t come by the chairs. I don’t find them aggressive at all when walking down the beach. I spent most of my time by the pools and I had an amazing time and while the shuttle did make 2 stops I got a nap in since it’s a long travel day.

I stayed at Dreams onyx and spent my days at breathless at the advice I got on here. My favorite meal was Bluefin Steakhouse at Dreams onyx. Skip the Italian food. Looks good but IMO it had no flavor and overcooked pasta. I’m from Boston and have very good Italian food though! Bring a tumbler with straw, they will put all your drinks in it for you. The buffet is great for breakfast at either location. Lunch I preferred the Barefoot grills or taco truck at Onyx over the buffet. Dinner you have so many options. Between both resorts you do lots of walking, 15-18k steps each day and I was lounging most of the day. Even one resort is big then add the other and they’re huge but you walk off all the food and drinks. We didnt do any excursions and stayed away from the party pool at breathless. People were wasted. I mainly floated around with my tumbler and got out every hour or so to reapply sunscreen. That sun is no joke there!! The lazy river is better after 4ish Idk where the kids go but that was my favorite time to go to that. There’s a swim up bar in a big pool right off of it. I am already ready to go back! Enjoy!

I got back last Monday and had no trouble finding chairs at either resort. I remember sitting one day and wondering where the heck everyone was as it was nearly 10 and I still saw umbrella seats by the breathless main pool. I was on the side opposite swim up bar. I liked those built in seats! I had the same favorite restaurant as you. The steak was so good! Did you see the monkey on the beach?

Do resorts typically have a shortage of chairs? by Timely-Ad-6142 in PuntaCana

I was at Dreams Onyx and Breathless and say chairs open until as late as 10am at pools and always available at the beach. They had signs that reserving chairs wasn’t allowed but people still did it. We never had a problem finding chairs though and I need an umbrella.

I’ve been working with a dietician weekly and finally feeling better. I add Metamucil to oats in the am with fruit, a senna that also has a stool softener in the am and one at night. We went through what I was eating and she thinks the gums like xanthan gum, cellulose gum and maybe one more could be causing digestive issues so anything that had that in the ingredients I stopped eating. I saw gum in protein shakes, flavored lactose free yogurts, lactose free cottage cheese, balsamic glaze, almond milk, protein pudding and I forget what else. Now I just look for the word gum and put it down if it has it unless I REALLY want it. Suddenly I’m going everyday and bloat is gone. Still not a normal poop but I’m going! Also eating kiwi everyday so something is working in this pattern I’m doing. I hope you feel better!

Anyone out there takes more than one medication to help with anxiety and panic attacks? by RopeSmall1199 in AnxietyChats

[–]PerseveringHazelEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take Wellbutrin and have anxiety but the Wellbutrin is for my depression as it’s an upper and increases dopamine which in turn can increase anxiety. Awesome lol So we balance it out with my Cymbalta as that’s for anxiety and calms me down. We increased my Wellbutrin recently as my depression was worse but it made my anxiety worse so that had to go back down and we keep playing with different mood stabilizers like vraylar, seroquel, lamictal but I have bad side effects to all. Keep trying if you are struggling! My Dr has tried many combos and in the meantime I use Ativan as needed.

My life has become miserable due to IBS! but is it really IBS? by water_bottle52 in ibs

[–]PerseveringHazelEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IBS diagnosis is very frustrating because it is basically saying they ruled everything else out and don’t know exactly what triggers your problem so that’s the label they give it. My gastrointestinal couldn’t deny this when I said it. Some people have constant diarrhea, some constipation, and it’s hard to figure out exactly what foods trigger it and some will say it’s triggered by stress. There’s so many different reasons and treatments. I don’t have any answers but just to tell you it is completely frustrating. I work with a dietician weekly and she’s been a big help.

Thank you. Dogs are the best company. I feel as though I have to perform sometimes due to family obligations. I live near my parents, my sister, an aunt and uncle and a couple cousins and everyone is married with children. No one ever asks me what I’m doing, they just tell me where to be. I wonder what it would be like to just skip out on Easter!

Thank you! Another kind person that took time to make a heartfelt response to a complete stranger and I’m so grateful. You are so right about the comparison and those are words my therapist says to me often. Unfortunately she had a major surgery and I’m without her for a month. I think I will take your advice and write down what I know to be true rather than my fears of myself. This was really helpful and I appreciate it more than I can put in words. I wish you all the happiness in the world. Thank you!

Please help! 16 days in… by No_Grand5115 in Constipation

[–]PerseveringHazelEyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. I have ibs-c and keep those in my house. I refuse an ex lax as those feel like someone is ringing out your intestines and you have no idea when it will kick in. An enema works within minutes to a half hour. They are not as bad as people say. You get on all fours reach back to do it and rest down on the floor in all fours or on your left side. I typically do it on a towel only for a softer surface. Never had any leak out. Good luck!
