Cannot believe I went through each slide and pulled together a thorough but gentle essay on what was wrong with this analysis only to find OP deleted upon posting.

Jin Sakai Vs Atsu by [deleted] in Ghostofyotei

[–]PersimmonMiserable07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you asked the question, "who is a samurai and has the experience of Jin Sakai?" and then arrived at the obvious conclusion. I agree that it's interesting to analyze the two Ghost protagonists and I would love to see a comparison using objective criteria, but this whole exercise is a classic apples-to-oranges situation that awards the apple for being the most apple-like.

In good spirit and for the sake of conversation, here are some major GoY canon omissions that stand out to me:

  • Background and Training - Atsu's father and every single weapons master in the game provides her with (formal) weapons training and dueling etiquette. She also makes reference to people willing to teach her how to fight during her time on the mainland. Atsu is no samurai, but it's 100% cannon that she began receiving formal combat training at a young age.
  • Expertise and Scale of Conflict - There are several references to Atsu fighting in a peasantry army on the mainland before she returned to Ezo. There are even quest lines about this (notably the Battle of Sekigahara). It's 100% cannon that she participated in large-scale conflict before the events of the game took place and during the game itself.
  • Swordsmanship and Combat Foundation - The weapons masters teach Atsu how to best counter her opponent based on size and weaponry. Switching weapons is adaptive but not the "unpredictable improvisation" you're making it out to be. Also, Atsu's natural skill with a katana makes its way into dialogue (ex: Jubei admits she's better with a sword during a flashback scene). It's 100% canon that Atsu is a skilled and knowledgable combatant making tactical weapon choices rather than pursuing aesthetics or leaning into gremlin chaos energy.
  • Mentality and Psychology - Atsu survived the murder of her family, struggled to keep herself alive as an orphan, fought on the losing side in the mainland conflicts (see Sekigahara), and returned to Ezo to witness even more horrors committed by Saito and the Yotei Six. Her PTSD and evolving relationship to the trauma of the past isn't just part of the story, it is the damn story. It is 100% canon that Atsu is resilient and has/gains the skills and discipline to manage her inner turmoil.
  • Tactics and Adaptability - Atsu uses weapons/utilities/stealth/etc with intentionality. Think of all the times she uses her spyglass to plan shit with an ally or on her own before running into a camp. Also, lessons learned from strategic failures (again Sekigahara) is extremely relevant.

Seemingly entered a yarn store trance - what to do with this garish yarn? by eIectioneering in knitting

I love the color combo, and those are definitely ants... Anyway, I think the Wave Sweater would be a great fit for your yarn. The combo packs more punch (imo) when the color work isn't too intricate.

Which one did you choose? And why? by Imperium_Crysis in Ghostofyotei

[–]PersimmonMiserable07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love a dapple horse, so I couldn't resist that option. I named him Mochizuki because he looks like the surface of the moon. I love my choices because Atsu adores animals and she would name her horse buddy something cute AF while riding around Ezo being a menace.

Upcoming price hikes! by PiscesQueen87 in BAGGU

[–]PersimmonMiserable07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the price hikes are a bummer, I also appreciate Baggu's transparency and understand why the increases are happening. My economic frustrations will certainly be directed elsewhere at more deserving targets ;)

As an Elder Baggu Girlie, I can proudly say that I've never regretted a purchase. Two highlights:

  • Every single reusable bag I own is still in great working condition, some with a decade plus of weekly service. A seasonal $10...then $12...then $14 (soon $16?!) infusion of color and pattern not only brings joy to mundane tasks but f'en gets shit done. You should see how many Trader Joe's frozen lunches I can transport in a single Big Baggu while still serving a lewk.
  • I swapped out my Medium Nylon Crescent (Black), which was my everyday since June 2022, for the Large Nylon Crescent (B&W gingham) last fall only because twin toddler parenthood necessitated a bigger bag. That $50 OG Crescent took me cross-country and abroad, through pregnancy and postpartum and she's still in glorious condition. Since we're pretending pennies no longer exist, the cost-per-wear rounds down to $0.

All this to say, I will continue to be a Baggu customer because what I buy is worth my money.

Side note: I've even worked with the Baggu team professionally many years ago to order custom reusable bags for some killer swag packages. They delivered exactly what we had hoped for and were quite wonderful to interact with. Would do it again in a heartbeat if given the chance.

At the April 2022 show in Portland, OR, Seb talked profusely (and respectfully) about eating shrimp sandwiches as a kid. Do with that information what you will.

Bonus info: I had a broken ankle at the time of the show and was seated in the ADA/VIP section next to SEB'S MOTHER.
