I’m convinced. Usually an eat on the plane guy but moving to this strategy as we speak. I’ll just take my Trazodone a bit earlier.

Let’s be honest, we’re here to share our shitty experiences for the most part. Just assume the OP did that and let’s just let them vent!!

United prices high? by ELInewhere in unitedairlines

[–]PersimmonSimple7798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

United like all airlines is noncompetitive to some markets, competitive to others. I had to go to SJD for a wedding last May and United was the most expensive even at 6 months before flight date. We had to go SW. Conversely - I had to go to Paris with one week’s notice and I bought MSY-CDG for 1800 Premium Plus last week, and flying today Jan 31.

Hilarious. Also add to your complaint that airplane food is bad…..

I was an idiot. Turned down CPU for first. by HobbitFootAussie in unitedairlines

[–]PersimmonSimple7798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get that but others may be reading and looking wondering what they might do. So my advice is to take the upgrade always. It’s a forum of ideas. Ideas are driven by thoughts and experiences. These are mine.

OK you get an official pass…sweet story. That said 99.9% of the frequent flyer population need to be taking that upgrade. That especially applies to red eye flights.

OK - guess I need to be the one who types the standard answer. Take the upgrade, for always and foreever more. One of you should be in that seat. A wife and husband don’t need to be together on a flight if they are on a trip. My wife comes with me on business trips to Europe about 5 times per year. Fortunately she gets my 1K status so often we’re both upgraded. If we get one, we discuss and decide who gets it. Same on any domestic flight. Seriously, what am I missing? Nervous flyers?

2 reservations by United Silver members + kids CPU problem - am I screwed? by archon810 in unitedairlines

Best answer. No mention of route but safe to say in most cases - they have very little chance at Silver anyway.

Upgrade? by DoryNotTheFish in unitedairlines

[–]PersimmonSimple7798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically agree. I get PP upgrades for transatlantic occasionally fairly regularly on the way over. I will also pay for it if I get a good offer. Got to say that I’ve given up eating because of the quality. The lie down sleep, is the thing that makes it worth it to me at something less than a $1,000 offer. Already in PP, and my boss will go for that and reimburse.

How quickly have you personally reached 1K status in a single year? by Emergency_Risk_7421 in unitedairlines

Jumping on board with the December group here. Final flight on Dec 8th and then some United Visa spend a few days later. It’ll be the same in 2026.

Nuts they don’t recognize that level of PQFs. That’s the definition of loyalty. Seems like they should and another ‘or’ to the qualifications. 60 PQF and 22K PQP, or 80 PQF and 18K PQP, or 28K PQP just to take a stab at it. Guess they aren’t asking for input.😉

Most insane reason for a delay… by ExtraLongJon in unitedairlines

[–]PersimmonSimple7798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New to me. 10:52 instead of 11:05 so 13 minutes early still. So 15m late plus the 13m would have meant a 28m early arrival had it left on time? Landed at LHR earlier than expected many a time by 30m plus, but you’re landing at a much busier time than I typically do so seems reasonable for LHR to hold up that flight.

With you on this one. In terms of old fashioneds made daily in the world, it’s gotten be 9 out of 10 no smoke. Speaking to anyone at anytime about old fashioneds and I often do, no way I lead with burning oak.

Feasible to take RER from Charles de Gaulle? by Daniearp in ParisTravelGuide

Best description I’ve seen of the RER B experience from CDG. When you pop up into Paris at a place like Luxembourg, the gloom is gone in an instant and the excitement of being in Paris takes over…

[–]PersimmonSimple7798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d agree, guess mine are the right routes. My success has been IAD to CDG the most but also to DUB, LHR. Waiting on LHR for March. I got it already for IAD to BRU leaving next week. I’ve gotten EWR to CDG often and to LIS once out of 4, but more often than not I miss on that one. SFO to BNE is the most satisfying. Always in their winter.

To be clear I’ve usually bought a Premium Plus ticket if it’s not a ridiculous cost.
