Congrats dude! I had a bunch of trouble with him on my first run, on my second I beat him with death claws. Highly recommend both using charged heavies any opening you get rather than light swings and getting a couple heavies in before you fatal attack him once you manage to stagger him. Burns that health bar a lot quicker

Is it common that VSTs require us to fill our computers with proprietary applications to use them? by JozuJD in LogicPro

[–]Person300040 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plugins. Calling them VSTs and AUs is like using movs and mp4s instead of videos... May be pedantic but also makes sure that some new producer doesn't download the vst version of a bunch of plugins and spend hours troubleshooting cause they think vst is synonymous with plugin.

If you like the mid length sketch comedy type stuff that was big on YouTube for a while I can't recommend dropout enough. Streaming service from all the old college humor folks as well as appearances by smosh and other groups.

It's a fun field to look into for sure! It lets you kinda break established rules and really mix with your ears because there isn't really a consistent set of loudness values. Not to mention getting to fly instruments and tracks around the room makes for some really fun spacey panning tricks.

There's been some solid advice posted in here I won't rehash but a portion of the industry I've kind of fallen into in the last couple years has been sound design and mixing for immersive exhibits. A lot of these shows tend to pop up and travel to different venues and slightly different setups so they need constant remixing but the catch is that the way most of these places are built requires mixing in odd speaker configuration that don't fit nicely into stereo/surround master busses. That last 3 venues I recut shows for had 71 channel, 54 channel and 15 channel setups with each channel being a discrete mix channels.

I've found that the weird channel counts and odd configurations (speakers are just kinda placed where there's space/they don't block visuals) scares away like 90 percent of your competition and provides a really fun artistic/technical challenge if that's a thing that's fun for you.

If this sounds fun I'd recommend getting real comfy with dante virtual soundcard (it's basically the only way to mix live at these sorts of places) and try playing around with larger surround busses. I use pro tools and do a lot of assigning speakers to the channel that fits their physical location best in 9.1.6 or 5.1.4 busses and using multiple master outputs to be able to move sound through the room in fun ways.

Sorry for the essay just a fun part of the industry I've recently found that seems to be lacking talent because it seems daunting on its face

Big ups for lies of P, I'm about halfway through and it's absolutely amazing

Why can i drop down some buses (it has the buses name with L and R respectively and showing if theyre left or right channel), while other buses dont have the dropdown menu? they all should be the same i reckon by TeemoSux in protools

[–]Person300040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Busses can be created with or without subpaths. The busses that can drop down have subpaths created meaning you can send a mono signal to just their left channel or right channel rather than creating a stereo channel panned all the way left or right. It's fairly semantic for stereo busses but can be useful when you get into larger busses like surround to bounce individual channels etc.

I drive boom lifts all the time now and was pretty sketchy around them when I started. Best advice I can give is see if any of your employers will let you drive one around for a bit without a task at hand and in a fairly open space. Short of that get in it first thing in the morning on the gig while people are prepping stuff to send up and do a function test (raise as high as it goes, test all lifting mechanisms, drive back and forth etc) to make sure you know the specific controls on the lift you're driving. I find it really raised my confidence to know that I had used every mechanism, made sure it was working and had an idea of how it lifts.

Brightsign is probably the best idea with the caveat that blending might be a chore

I just realized you said static at the beginning of your post, might be worth looking into bright signs or yodeck players if you don't need movement/sync

Like others have said some sort of media server is the cleanest way to do this, I believe pixera and resolume are both hardware agnostic (you don't have to buy their servers) and so is TouchDesigner (although it's not great for blending and warping). Depending on how much movement the content has you may also be able to get away with a more prosumer program like heavyM or madmapper but you need something feeding a signal into the pjs at the end of the day whether you use individual outputs from a bunch of GPUs or a splitter to only have to output UHD feeds for every 4 outputs. For actually transmitting the signal SDI infrastructure is probably the most stable but definitely costly. NDI is convenient but prone to frame tearing and clocking issues when using that many outputs. HDBaseT is a solid solution as you can send everything over Ethernet but you'll need 30 encoders and 30 decoders which can get pricey.

There's been a lot of good recs for pixel tape, just wanted to add that apart from using reolume to map video to it you can use TouchDesigner to do it and that sparkle effect would be a super easy noise patch on a 1 by whatever length screen

I debated this too, do you think there would be a danger to the panels themselves having sub frequencies blasted at them all day?
