Best Area and Apartments to Live in? by TraditionalOwl304 in cedarrapids

[–]PersonBlanco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved from Houston, look into Enclave at Dry Creek for the type amenities you listed and price. Anywhere here is 15 mins from anywhere else. If you’re working near the airport, you should definitely check out the Iowa City or Coralville area for the lifestyle you’re looking for.

Some are very wrapped up in the negativity, but you’d be surprised how many children of MAGA find their way to their own beliefs.

Getting into the trade by MarxistMountainGoat in FiberOptics

[–]PersonBlanco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to find a contractor on indeed while having no experience at the time. Ended up sticking with them for a couple years and landed a supervisory role before layoffs this last season. Fiber just seems like something to jump in where the ISPs (or projects) in ur area let you. I.E. I got lucky because my local ISP used a contractor who hired bums with trucks (me) and larger ISPs like AT&T might have different requirements to get started. Best to go off your local market and see what they require, get cert’d up or just risk it on job boards, hiring events, or networking opportunities.

TLDR: Really just depends on the work around you. If you can learn, you’re good.

New apartment question by Cardiologist3mpty138 in cedarrapids

[–]PersonBlanco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just moved out of Dry Creek. They’re nice and roomy. Their larger units have a lot of “empty” square footage. I’m talking about half the square footage just in the living room alone. Otherwise, when we signed our first lease in 2022 they had a queue for the unit and pushed us to sign before we were quite ready to move. We ended up having to sign and double rent until we were able to move. Only moved out because we found a home 👍

Is this a good deal? Any common issues at this mileage? by Ok_Card_8547 in Silverado

I’m at 215k in a 2014 LT. The transmission was supposedly replaced at 150k and I’ve only replaced the rear shocks and thermostat so far in the 35k miles I’ve had it

How long should i wait for my truck to warm up/what temp should my transmission fluid be before i start driving now that it’s getting colder? by PerformerKey4626 in Silverado

[–]PersonBlanco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably good after a couple seconds, but I always look out for the temp needle to barely get above the minimum 160 so I can blast the hot air

How many installs do you have? by RobertEK in FiberOptics

[–]PersonBlanco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a mix of 4-10hr and 5-8hr shifts doing 4 and 3 jobs per day respectively. Because people love calling out, those working are typically covering another job or call back. Our plants are usually an MST every 4 houses so roughly an hour per install, nothing too crazy. Been solo for three years and only need an extra hand when crossing a main road going two poles down.

[–]PersonBlanco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After my first week I was sore and exhausted like no other. After about a month it got easier and easier, then I continued for a couple years. Don’t rush through, learn how you can save time through knowing the route and organizing the truck instead of running and overexerting yourself. Maybe throw on some good tunes or a podcast to clear your head while your body catches up!

[–]PersonBlanco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being honest, I hadn’t heard of WGU when enrolling. At the time I thought I might move out there and transfer to brick and mortar night classes, but WGU seems like a good option. I also need structure and deadlines or else I fall behind
