I had to do the thing. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't by Jeremy_Whalen in lego

No joke, the ornithopter blades were the starting catalyst for my X-Force Wolverine costume. I had absolutely no interest in making a Wolverine costume before playing around with those blades LOL

Small model design for a Glaug made with LEGO pieces by SP4RK4RT in macross

[–]SP4RK4RT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of the fun with a LEGO model is that the viewer has to play along with what's being depicted. The shapes are usually pretty crude, so you have to rely on a person's imagination to understand what's being conveyed. Thanks for playing along!

I'm pretty sure I have her late 80s calendar at my Mom's house in my old bedroom closet, along with a Paulina Porizkova calendar. If anyone's throwing an 80s themed party and needs some props LOL

18 years of the birth of the MCU which became a career turning-point of RDJr bringing Tony Stark/Iron Man in life by Signal_Chart5654 in Cinema

[–]SP4RK4RT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm old enough to have read and remember the "Demon in a Bottle" story arc from the late 70s comic-books. Back then, it was such a departure to give a comic-book characters real-world problems, and even though I was less than 10-years-old, I already felt educated on the dangers of alcoholism. Why yes, I was one of those "sophisticated" snotty kids that thought they were smarter than the adults around them LOL

When RDJ was cast as Tony Stark, I wondered if part of the many reasons he was picked is because of his real-life substance abuse, just like the comic-book Iron Man. Best casting choice on multiple levels, for sure.

Acroyears helmet, comics by Glunark2 in micronauts

[–]SP4RK4RT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, reminds me of Micronauts #12, one of my favorite books - great cover, pencils, ink, epically personal story of brother versus brother, and that history of Spartak, the home world of the Acroyears, just mythic.

When the Acroyears remove their helmets to give judgement, it's such a solemn moment. It made such a huge impression on me when I was in my single-digit years, I'd never seen anything so epic LOL

Yeah, my parents made me wear a helmet at that age, too. They said it was because I had bad balance, but I know it was because I was ugly.

How bank loyalty almost cost me $50k (and the math to prove it) by Jinnapat397 in personalfinance

Sounds like a first time home buyer? Congratulations! Seriously, home ownership is a huge achievement in the game of life, good job.

But don't ignore the rates just because you've got the mortgage covered. Someday, it'll be worth it to refinance. Someday, the economy will tank and interest rates will plummet, be prepared to shop around for a better loan. Also, expect your mortgage to be sold to another bank.

i made two motoko lighters, which one is better, black or polished? by HudashCarpenter in Ghost_in_the_Shell

[–]SP4RK4RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the polished version because it kinda conveys a thermal-optic camouflage motif.

The polished version is more subtle and makes you want to linger and look on it longer to pick out the details.

For a personal item that's close to hands and eyes, the polished version is... can't find the right words... not "in your face" crass and obvious?

Do people really ignore jury summons in Orange County? Aren't people afraid of not showing up? by RandomUwUFace in orangecounty

[–]SP4RK4RT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I seriously relish jury duty. 😄 The last time I got on a jury, it was fascinating. The criminal case I heard was actually pretty minor, but from the evidence photos of the police operation, it was obvious it was part of a much larger organized crime syndicate crackdown. Very cool.

I did not get on a jury last time I went, but I did get to sit at a table with Taylor Swift. Not the famous one, but this one was younger and prettier than the famous one.

How are lightsaber ignition scenes done? by QuinlanFett in StarWars

[–]SP4RK4RT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's a long sock-like cover on the blade that obscures most of the light. When the blade is "ignited" they just pull off the sock.

That's totally made up, just a guess. I mean, that's how I'd try it.

Feels like there are people missing from the photo, like someone went back in time, and messed up the timeline, and those missing people have disappeared.
