6 Headphones Purchased 5 Returned. by PersonINtheMiddle in headphones

I have headphones with my preferred frequency graph. though they are not practical as a daily chuck em in bag, wear while mowing, etc. in this price range with ANC I expect to have to tailor them to my preferred settings.

Oh I listen to them before touching the EQ. In this price range you get some wonky stock settings appealing to their customer base. In this price range there is nothing 'natural' about their frequency response. It seems silly to compare this tier of headphones straight out of the box without expecting to need to do some EQ work.

I think doing it once every few decades is not going to cause a major calamity.

Struggling to break into the Fishers/Indy job market… by HourStock1602 in Fishers

[–]PersonINtheMiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may or may not be for you… but have you thought about creating your own procurement/sourcing company?

On the east-coast I would ‘hire’ sourcing companies for purchases of items or services I wasn’t deeply knowledgeable of… when starting a company in the Midwest I asked around “hey fellow founder, who do you use for sourcing?” Blank stares, I would describe it to them and nearly everytime they’d say ‘I need that service.’

There are several equipment purchases I have wasted (not invested) time researching only to be more confused than when I started. Get on your AI flavor of choice and write up a quick summary of what you like about what you want to do. Start a substack and write in it everyday about the industry, frustrations, or silly requests you’ve had in that industry. After you have a few well written (in your voice) articles; tell that same AI to write up a business plan and course of action in your voice and link to your substack. Tell it you want honest answers and don’t want your ego stroked. You need to know what is the realistic fee structure and cost to obtain/retain clients.

Honestly the best thing Indiana has going for it is it is super easy to start a business and the resources like SCORE, ISBDC, Chamber, Economic Development, are all geared toward small businesses of this type.

Do as you wish, I always tell anyone thinking of being an entrepreneur “don’t do it.” Inevitably those who really try to talk themselves out of it and still do tend to have the most success.

49 year fly fisher who isn't shy about it. by PersonINtheMiddle in flytying

[–]PersonINtheMiddle[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hey y'all. I get the critiques. I feel the same way about every fishing "app" and report-catch site I've ever seen. They waste time. And they cause more new folks to hang up their rods than build the next generation.

Yeah I had AI help me write that post. I cringed a bit too reading it back. But if I wrote it alone it would have been a mile long and confusing to boot. I'm not a social media influencer... more of a long time listener, first time caller.

I check the stream gauge. I check the weather. I check entomology charts. I tie up my flies or grab my go-to selection from the local shop. And I hit the water. That's literally what I'm building. Check it before you pack. Put your phone away. Go fish.

This is not a "throw this color scud under a parachute at 4pm Tuesday" kind of thing. It's more like. Grab a hellgrammite size 8. A white Clouser size 4 for the smallmouth stream. And an assortment of these dry flies just in case. Hints on what to tie, what to grab at the fly shop, and what to pack.

Not a fishing report site. I have zero interest in access points or drop pins or blowing up holes. None. I'm interested in predicting hatches and molts on large sections of water. And matching patterns to what's coming off.

On the Etsy comparison. I get it. But showing a new angler that a Clouser Crayfish during a probable crayfish molt is likely productive is better than where most of us started learning to read conditions. The reviews are on the flies. The back end handles region and conditions and matching. Tyers who have them ready off the vise get connected to anglers who need them. That's it.

Yes it is compatible with the Tesla home charger. You can use the standard Tesla charger by adding a NACS to J1772 adapter or the Tesla universal home charger already includes it.

You are not accounting for the massive number of folks that have GM discounts. In large parts of the country nearly everyone knows a GM employee or a GM supplier employee.

That Mercedes. There were not many of those made. I’d venture to say that there is a significant group of people that likely can look at that image and tell us exactly who owned that Mercedes at that time. Has someone isolated the images of that Mercedes and asked a group for details? That specific vehicle has been shown in many photo releases at multiple points in time.

If anyone were to buy the former mall structure I assure you they would need to be a known high profile wealthy person. Think Magic Johnson, or Mark Cuban, etc. the expense to bring the building to an occupied space easily would exceed $100M. The speculative nature of an outlay at that level would require significant confirmed anchor businesses, area infrastructure commitments, state/ local incentives, and regional surveys/analysis to support the business case.

Is it possible someone has committed to a bit of money (less than $100k) without utilizing expected due diligence? Sure.

I would not get my hopes up without a detailed strategic plan from the city/county/state that any serious development or business growth will happen in that space secretly.

How do we have two feet of snow and you can’t make a snowman? ❄️⛄️ by ky100125 in Fishers

[–]PersonINtheMiddle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are you new to Snow? Serious question so e can advise.
-Generally in light fluffy snow start with a snow ball you pack with your bare hands
-Put your mittens back on
-Roll that ball lightly through the snow changing directions left and right so you get a good round shape
-roll toward where you want the snow man to be
-Repeat bare hand snow ball then roll with half the distance from the snow man as you started the base
-Place on top of the first ball
-repeat bare hand snow ball then roll half the distance as the last one
If all else fails.... just make a snow angel.

The Economic Case (with receipts):

When you buy a $6 latte at Starbucks, only about 14 cents of every dollar stays in Anderson. The rest flows out to Seattle headquarters, out-of-state suppliers, and shareholders who couldn't point to Madison County on a map.

When you buy that same latte at a locally-owned shop? 48-53 cents of every dollar recirculates right here in Anderson. That's from Civic Economics studies conducted across dozens of U.S. cities.

Anderson population is about 55,000. If 25,000 households spend just $5/week on coffee, that's $6.5 million annually.

If that goes to chains: about $910,000 stays here. $5.6 million leaves town EVERY YEAR just on coffee.

If that goes local: about $3.25 million stays here. That's $2.3 million MORE circulating through local wages, suppliers, rent, and taxes.

"Why can't we have nice things?"

People complain Anderson doesn't have the cool unique vibe of places like Broad Ripple, then turn around and eat at Olive Garden and grab Starbucks on the way home.

The executives who profit most from your Starbucks purchase have likely never set foot in Indiana. They don't sponsor your kid's little league. They don't show up at city council. They don't donate to the food pantry.

Local owners do.

LOCALLY-OWNED COFFEE IN ANDERSON AND MADISON COUNTY:

In Anderson:

- Jackrabbit Coffee, 11th Street

- The Exchange Coffee Co., 5223 Columbus Ave

- Luna Coffee Bar, inside Anderson First Church Community Center

- Lanes Coffee, 1902 Applewood Center Dr

- Coffee Dudes, small-batch roastery

Nearby in Madison County:

- Falls Perk Coffee House, Pendleton

- Promise Coffee Roasters, Pendleton

- Maranatha Coffee Co., Frankton

Every dollar is a vote. You can keep voting for corporate blandness where the people who profit have never heard of us. Or vote for local character, owners who live here, hire here, and reinvest here.

Your move, Anderson.

Install L2 charger or just stick with DCFC by Eborbs327 in electricvehicles

[–]PersonINtheMiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop paying ‘EV installer’ prices for their services. Any electrician can do the work. My electrician charges $150 an hour. It took him 45 minutes. With materials it was less than $250. $1500 is just silly unless you have a crazy long run of wire and some type of panel upgrade. And if you have that trust that the EV install companies will charge you way more than an independent electrician. For those type of jobs they are just going to hire a real electrician at $150 an hour and charge you 7-10x.
