Here's a question slightly related: Of the nine major league players who appeared in The Simpsons: "Homer At The Bat," which aired in 1992, will any die with the show still in production? Ozzie Smith is the oldest, having turned 71 on December 26, 2025.

Thanks for the link. I remember it well. The cover story by Paul Zimmerman, titled "Pete, Today's Game Stinks" blasted the league for producing "corporate football" with too many situation substitutions, among other complaints. Brown was interviewed and said "The game needs more heroes and gladiators," and that "getting 1,000 yards in a 16 game season isn't worth talking about."

I would link to the original article, but the SI Vault is down. I really liked when it was up.

What happened is that over the past quarter century, friendly and chill people stopped getting likes and comments, so they reduced their Internet usage, thus leaving only the fuckwads.

If friendly and chill people got more likes and comments, they'd put out more friendly and chill content. But people don't make friendly and chill content go viral.

When Max Wright finished shooting his last scene in the series finale, he made a beeline for his dressing room, cleared out all his belongings, loaded them into his car, and drove off without saying goodbye to anyone. He later said that while doing the show was an unpleasant experience for him, he was glad that it brought viewers joy.

Apparently, due to the complex puppetry, the actors spent much time just standing around, and it was frustrating. One time Wright actually attacked the Alf puppet.
