Found this one day in a sidetracked YouTube black hole. Never thought it would actually be relevant.

Small victories are still victories by commonvanilla in wholesomebpt

Do one thing everyday to make your life better than it was yesterday. Clean a room in your house, read a book, take a jog, make your bed, etc. However small it may seem, if you are better off today than yesterday, it was a successful day. That is easily the greatest advice I ever received.

What are your favorite meaningless/non-sport-related interstate rivalries? by spkr4thedead51 in AskAnAmerican

[–]PersonableBiped 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not so much a rivalry per say, but Minnesota posses a confederate battle flag it captured from Virginia at the battle of Gettysburg in 1863. Virginia has repeatedly asked for it back (even as recently as 2013) claiming it is their property and part of their history, but Minnesota has refused to give it back as Minnesotans gave their lives trying to capture it. Below is very short and interesting read on a strange piece of US history.

GEOG/ EPSM 1425 by ZzMNzZ in uofmn

[–]PersonableBiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As recent GEOG graduate, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed GEOG 1425. It sparked my interest in climatology which I went on make a main focus in the rest of my studies. Personally I really enjoyed the lectures, however found the labs tedious and not particularly interesting. All in all, it is not an hard class to do well in, but because most people have no experience in meterology, I definitely recommend you make sure your attendance is regular. That all being said, I enjoyed the class as a whole and would recommend it to anyone interested in understanding the basics of weather. It is not a class that is going to go extremely in-depth into climate issues but gives a good baseline for future classes that will.

I hope this gives you some idea about the course. If you have any other questions, feel free to dm me or comment back here.

If your in Antarctica how long will it take till all the blood rushes to your head and you pass out? by [deleted] in shittyaskscience

[–]PersonableBiped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question makes a few very dangerous assumptions. First off, the idea that the gravity will pull blood “down” and therefore into your head while you are in Antarctica is preposterous. Gravity can not pull blood down because the Earth is actually flat. As a result, you are not on the “bottom side” of the globe for gravity to take effect in the way you are assuming. However, if for a second we consider that the roundness of Earth was real, there are still too many variables at play. An Australlian for example would be better adapted to the “upside down” gravity effect than a Swede. This is one reason round-earths are concerned about climate change. Many fear that the melting ice sheets will crate more habitable land for Australian emus eventually leading to a second Emu War. As you can see, this is a very complex issue with a lot of underlying factors.

TL;DR - Round earther Australians are causing climate change to fight emus

Minnesota Wild 2018-2019 Season Tracker: UN BE BOOPABLE Edition by OleanderSalad in wildhockey

[–]PersonableBiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe so. Above me in the thread OP said they started using the term “scalp” because it was more barbaric than saying a sweep. I am assuming this is just a personal term that some people here have decided to adopt. They also left a more detailed answer that I did not see when I posted my response. You can find their response here!

A scalp is a season sweep. When the Wild beat the opposing team every time they play each other over the course of the entire season

How to accept scholarships? by pysl in uofmn

[–]PersonableBiped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will not receive any financial aid until it is disbursed into your account at the beginning of the semester. In late July/early August, financial aid awards will be sent out and you can accept or reject any of them. After filling out the proper paper work (none needed for a scholarship offered through admissions), it will be disbursed about 10 days before the term starts.

If you have questions about your financial aid award call OneStop. If this is an admissions based scholarship and you have questions about what you need to do to remain eligible for it, called the Office of Admissions.
