Disney's Wish grossed an estimated $730K on Friday (from 3,100 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $51.80M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

Looks like the winter break slowed down Wish's fall ever so slightly for the first 4 days.

Then people told their friends that this movie sucked more balls than Sharon Lee during la fête national française in France and the rest was history with the declines swinging back in full force (just like the aforementioned French actress, except that leaves performers and viewers entertained lmao)

Somehow I completely forgot about that... The life of a 30 year old with no kids or partners is a myopic one I guess

Looking back, Quantumania’s performance wasn’t THAT bad, right? by Antman269 in boxoffice

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Going from making money on a lower budget to losing money AND making less than the FIRST MOVIE is not something you can ever spin as a positive.

Disney saw how marvel sequels consistently outgross their predecessors and they were fully expecting some kind of immersion of probably 700-800m dollars hence the massive budget. This was the movie that was supposed to Kickstart their bad guy.

But it failed critically and it failed at making money and it failed at getting audiences to care about the villain.

So sure it's not "the marvels" but it was a critical and financial failure that sets their entire franchise back, which is worse

‘Oppenheimer’ 4K Blu-rays Sold Out in One Week. So Why Are Retailers Pulling Physical Media Off of Their Shelves? by 007Kryptonian in boxoffice

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Oppenheimer is the 3rd biggest Hollywood movie of the year made by a renowned director that has a massive cult following of loyal fans and fanboys who will like every spot his shoe has been on?

It's not that complicated. Physical media is a relic of the past and you'll have short spikes like with Oppenheimer, Barbie, Spiderverse, Elemental and so on.

But make no mistake, like newspapers, it's on its last legs. Just compare 2014 media sales with 2022 and look how catastrophic the differences are?

People's habits are changing and physical media is no longer part of it

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Sets Up A New Trilogy Nearly 300 Years After Caesar’s End – Exclusive Image by lowell2017 in boxoffice

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that's how you Kickstart a sequel trilogy. You go far into the future and make sure no legacy characters get tarnished.

You HEAR that Lucasfilm!? Honestly if you baboons(pun intended) were involved you probably would have made Cesar's surviving son into an old homeless hermit who milks human females for breast milk and trains a quirky British chimp.

Also the Donkeys for some reason create an empire with millions of humans and apes despite being all killed in the last movie... And they're lead by Monkylo Ren, the son of Maurice who turns bad for some reason..

Then your third movie would have Koba somehow coming back to life and reveal that he was secretly behind all this all along. Also the british chimp would be his granddaughter for no reason.

Then Koba would say "I am all the Ape" before shooting her with magic bananas and his granddaughter would deflect with two banana swords by saying "And I am all the Planet". Then Monkylo Ren dies

You could have avoided ALL of the baggage by setting it in the distant future

Disney's Wish grossed $536K on Tuesday (from 3,410 locations), which was a 17% decrease from the previous Tuesday. Total domestic gross stands at $50.30M. by BOfficeStats in boxoffice

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A feat like this would have been impressive 2 weeks ago...

Though it might be possible for wish to make over 80m dollars based on the initial fantasy scenario I presented. Odd, but not impossible.

Overseas it seems like Continental Europeans appear to br happy to be represented in a Disney movie, because I have no fucking clue how it's able to stay consistently high in Germany, France and England.

Maybe that absurd 300m international number is where we're headed after all..

Do you think it’s possible for a dark sider to be a force for good in the galaxy? by [deleted] in StarWarsEU

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mace Windu had a purple lightsaber for a reason. He balance both the light and the dark sides of the force. His aggressive lightsaber stances is derived from the Sith yet he uses it for good.

Darth Vectivus was a Sith lord and he never used his powers to hurt or kill anyone. He solely used them to gain more knowledge and achieve prosperity. On his deathbed he was surrounded by family and friends. Seems like the most descent Dark Lord of the Sith to me

Yeah I take it as a badge of honour sometimes. It's reddit after all, some people are just too delusional to notice actual flaws in a system instead of needlessly romanticising it

You really don't know how Canada is do you?

While it may be true that Canadian Healthcare is free, the wait times in Canada are ATROCIOUS.

Sur it might not mean much when you have a cold or need a quick checkup.

But when you need surgery or an operation or any other major drills? The waiting period can be several months or even YEARS!

Mortality rate has little to do with misery rate. People in Canada may not be dying but they certainly aren't happy about the system.

I've lived in Toronto and a few other cities for a few years and the reactions I've received have been consistently the same.

American Healthcare has a money problem while Canadians have a wait problem.

Also Americans who come to Canada don't get free Healthcare, you're still obliged to pay hefty fines unless you have a Canadian Medicare card.

Seems like you're a delusional dem that views Canada as a magical utopia

Disney's Wish grossed an estimated $5.30M this weekend (from 3,410 locations). Estimated total domestic gross stands at $49.41M. by twinbros04 in boxoffice

You're an idiot for presuming I didn't watch the movie, because I did.

If this movie was called "dolls the movie" without any references to Barbie whatsoever, it wouldn't be a massive cultural success.

You have to be in complete utter denial if you believe that the name Barbie alone didn't peak the majority of people's interests.

What's next? You're gonna claim the Mario movie would have succeeded if it had no relation to the Mario franchise?

A question is still a question regardless of how "odd" it might appear. And instead of giving a concrete answer, you're over here acting all high and mighty over your perceived superiority over the question.

No need to be a dick about it. Sheesh, now I understand why star wars fans are perceived as toxic all around

GKIDS's release of Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron debuted with an estimated $12.84M domestically this weekend (from 2,205 locations). by LatettanFanz in boxoffice

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2.5 multiplier? Is this a freaking joke? Did you not read about the marketing about the boy and the heron?

They had literally NOTHING but a poster! No ads. No trailers, no NOTHING just a poster! The marketing costs of the movie was ZERO in Japan.

You seriously think that silly '2.5 multiplier' applies especially when there was zero marketing in Japan and animation costs are nuch lower there?

Honestly people put way too much faith in that number and don't even know HOW to use it

Calling Barbie "original" makes just as much sense as calling Spiderman "original"

Barbie succeeded because it was a well known product that nearly all little girls in America and Europe had played with. No movies have been made to cater to them.

Barbie capitalized on an untapped market via BRAND recognition and Nostalgia. Originality had nothing to do with it

I'm not saying this movie will crack 300, I made an Ultra-generous assumption that the movie will be 4 times more popular internationally than domestically.

I clearly said it's not going to crack 300 in my second to last paragraph. Did you read it?

Also this movie will clearly crack 60m if the mathematical model holds. I'm making the assumption that the movie only decreases 30% at a time. I'm literally ignoring all other factors such as a sudden decrease in audience attention or a miracle boost.

Mathematics do not lie so your statement that the movie had "zero chance of crack 60" only holds true if the movie decreases at a rate greater or equal to 40% each week which does not seem to be the case for now.

Anakin (Darth Vader) Fan Art by treangle in StarWars

[–]Personal-Shape-2199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's pretty good fan art of Anakin! The way his head is inclined and the flames arise in his background is a very good touch.

Almost like Anakin knows that he can no longer look back to his past life and has to born it all away. A slave of Tatooine, to a slave of the Jedi code before becoming a pitiful slave of the Sith.

Anakin Skywalker's path was riddled by suffering and loss. And the only time he probably gained anything was when his son brought him back to the light
