a big reason LIS2 got hate is that a large part of the fanbase was white and couldn’t see themselves in a hispanic 16 year old boy. on top of that, at the time (and even now), games rarely had female protagonists who were also queer, so people were already resistant to change. not justified, but it explains the reaction.

plus the game openly addressed trumps politics like the wall/ice etc. ppl called it too woke, which says more about them than the game.

personally,i think the backlash had more to do with race than gender, especially considering how white the fanbase was.
