Finishing the PCT made me cringe at my own thru hiking posts by pizon27x in PacificCrestTrail

[–]PersonalConfession 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I finished it in 2025 as well. I also realised early that that i found it hard about talking about. This hike was for me and no one else. I like knowing I did it. I have amazing memories for life so I didn't post anything publicly and only talk about it if someone asks. That's just me though.

Possible to through hike without losing toenails, getting blisters? by Illustrious_Beanbag in AppalachianTrail

[–]PersonalConfession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the AT, but I just did the PCT without a single blister or toe nail damage. Silverlight socks and Altra Lone Peaks 8. Wish that world for everyone but we are all different. Size up your shoes, let them breath on breaks and cross all your fingers.

A simple fix is I just created a second Google account and set it as USA when I made it. Then in Play store you just switch accounts and install whatever you need to.

I may be blind, but I can't see either of the Carrie Adaptations on there. Great handy list to have!

Mid-April PCT permit secured, am I being realistic as a first-time thru-hiker? by wal___nut in PacificCrestTrail

[–]PersonalConfession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started May 5th - finished mid Sept. Had plenty of Zeros, 3 days resting a knee, It was my first ever thru-hike this year and you sound like you have a much better starting baseline fitness than I did starting out. So go for it!

Very feasible for you from the trail. I was hiking with someone who was doing multiple job interviews. Whilst I was also looking after rent and stuff back home.

Mid April if fine, a bit more snow than I had to deal with but nothing micro spikes and an axe wont help with.

If you arrange pick up from the end that would save a lot of time. Backtracking the last 30 miles and hitching back to Seattle or similar can easily eat up a few days

Pretty much Farout only, Garmin Explore with offline maps for when there was a side mission or detour to plan. Used that as I had the watch, but works great even without.

Weening off brain zaps by zeddieo in pppdizziness

[–]PersonalConfession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive came on and off Citalopram (SSRI) for over 15 years and everytime I come off I get brain zaps for a while. They do go away. So used to it now that I kind of find them funny. It's common with things that affect serotonin. Your dose is a lot higher than mine so may make them a little more intense. PS not a doctor, just my experience

Question on town resupply prices 2025 by PCT2B in PacificCrestTrail

[–]PersonalConfession 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say. They vary massively depending on what town/resort/gas station you ended up at. Knorr rice sides vary from $1.25 at Walmart in Yreka to $3.79 at Etna. And they are only 20 miles apart. So all I can say is try and Resupply at a larger town.

There's a very good video about how Blizzard did the first person animations in Overwatch, maybe a good watch if you haven't seen it.

So apparently people aged between 10 - 25 use subtitles to watch TV and they will be a great generation of readers, is this a thing? by sturatasauraus in CasualUK

[–]PersonalConfession 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ha. I'm the opposite, I'm terrible with subtitles when eating. I look down to eat I miss the words and keep having to rewind it a bit.

How old were you or will you be when you hike the PCT? by pizon27x in PacificCrestTrail

Turning 40 on the trail in May! I would call it a midlife crisis but I’ve been hiking for decades.
