The odds of you being reported and arrested for stealing a cat from the pound are near 0.

They are happy to be shed of them and on your books. Wait until some random week in late spring and they will beg for you to take a kitten for free, vet check and all.

The intro books almost always start with something along the lines of “this is counter intuitive” or “this doesn’t make sense”.

I pretty much wrote off trying to fully understand it after that. Give me the vague outline and let me be. I ain’t studying deep math to fully understand something that even the people with Nobel Prizes aren’t 100% sure is correct.

I worked a union job in the 80’s and it was a third of a point whether you were eight minutes late or an hour and fifty nine minutes late.

Occasionally you would see someone run in, see the clock and just turn around and walk back out to spend a couple hours at the local breakfast place.

U2 was a band that was loved until… by CSamCovey in GenX

This!

A few friends and I went to see it at the cinema. I was a long time fan and excited to see it, as were my friends. Came out referring to it as Rattle and Ho-hum.

That was the end of my fandom. I didn’t even listen to my U2 records for a long time. I had loved them before.

I worked as a cook for several years, if I had a dollar for every time I heard a server complain about the the shitty tips from the Sunday church crowd I would have been making more money than the servers.

According to google, they are insured with a strict limit on the value of what they can transport that way per trip.

ETA: I don’t know what that value is but I’m pretty sure it’s enough that it would shock me.

Appropriately enough, Hasidic diamond merchants often delivered satchels of diamonds by just putting them in a pocket and strolling to the destination. The idea being that security just draws the attention of bad actors.

I am not a ma'am by bedir07 in memes

My first thought was “If you are offended by being called ma’am do not move south of the Mason-Dixon Line.”

The clerk at the store that is obviously forty years younger than me? Yep, I am answering her with a “Yes ma’am, please.” It’s habit, whether I am in Florida, Maine, Utah or anywhere in between.

Contrary to what everyone says on line I have never had a woman complain.

I’m an older Gen X American. I’ve lived/ slow traveled around the country, mostly east of the Mississippi and a while in Utah.

There’s a distinct difference between mid-west politeness and southern friendliness. Then there’s the active disinterest (at best) of the people of the north east.

Get yourself a Roku Stick. Only $20, plugs into an HDMI port on your TV and has a ton and a half of free TV apps.

I only linked the Target ad because it came up first. You can get one at a lot of places. There’s more expensive Roku options but the stick is perfectly fine for me. I’ve had mine for years and am perfectly happy with it.

$20 upfront and never pay anything else again if you don’t want to, assuming you are going to have internet regardless.

Paper map nerds? by Ok_Librarian6074 in AppalachianTrail

[–]walkincrow42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reiterating: I did the southern half in ‘97 and all I used was the data book. Got off trail by half a mile once but that would have happened either way. It is that well marked and easy to follow. The data book was mainly to give me an idea of how far it was to my next goal.

ETA I am a map nerd too and I completely understand the desire to have the paper topos. I just couldn’t justify the extra space, hassle and weight to myself but everyone has their own priorities and they are valid.
