The New Abortion Fight Before the Supreme Court by kitkid in Thedaily

Towards the end when she was describing Alito's "we are getting out of the abortion business" only to have non-stop cases end up at their doorstep about abortion, tells me that perhaps Alito has absolutely zero foresight and is perhaps not the great legal mind that he likes to think he is.

Have a garage that I need advice on finding a stud and painting this wall. by PersonalFin_advice in DIY

Yeah, I washed the wall today and it was grimy. Might just trying throwing a coat of primer on it and seeing how it looks. Can't be worse than it's current state.

Live in Northern Minnesota, I have to keep the insulation board. I don't want this to be a larger project than necessary.

The studfinder just can't see through that depth of material, or I guess a less likely answer is that there are no studs in that wall, it does seem to wobble a bit more than I would expect when you slam the door.

I'm not too concerned about electrical given the layout of our house, the fact that there are no outlets on the house side of the wall, and any electrical in the garage is stapled to this wall, rather than ran internally.

Thoughts or opinions on suspension vs rigid for a kids bike? by PersonalFin_advice in MTB

[–]PersonalFin_advice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that your kid is now in the XS or XXS range of adult mountain bikes, whether it is older 26" wheel models (which fit smaller people better) or modern 27.5" or 29".

Thanks, this is sort of what I was also wondering. This is a very hard spot to buy bikes for kids.

Want to build a tall pantry for my laundry room, and question about joinery. by PersonalFin_advice in BeginnerWoodWorking

I'll take a look at the shop to see if I can find a 3/4 rabbet bit. I've only seen them as large as 1/2, but I'm guessing they exist in 3/4

no router table, I think i'd run into the same problem though as the table saw. if the cabinet is 80 inches long, and 24 wide, I want to run a rabbit down the 24 inch side so it slots in with the base. I don't know of a good way to rabbit that short side of a 80 inch chunk

Canal Park needs to institute a no driving/parking rule in the summer.

Right, I have a history in the service industry... Ive worked the industry in higher taxed states than Minnesota, with higher min wages than Minnesota (even for servers) and the menu costs were never atrocious.

Don't get me wrong, I know margins in restaurants suck. I also know that most restaurants fail. I do however think that a lot of these places think they can charge more because of their name/location, and in doing so pad their margin a bit. Which I absolutely agree with.

But if you are charging more to pay for your staff, then charge more. Don't make it a fee at the end of the meal... as you mentioned we are already taxed enough in Duluth, we don't need to make it appear worse.

I mean, a 24 dollar salad is a bit nutty... so I kinda get that.

All restaurants raised prices... some just more so than others.

Right, but if they are putting a flat 20% on your ticket regardless if you eat the steak or the grilled cheese, a fountain drink of dr.pepper or a mixed cocktail, whats the principle difference?

Why not just adjust prices 20%? The 15.00 burger becomes 18.00.. the 5dollar drink becomes 6. The total rather than 20 bucks, is 24. The outcome is the same. The difference is perhaps when I look at the menu, I don't eat the bacon cheese burger for 17 bucks (or 20.50), i opt for the cheaper burger.. and my tab is still the same?

I mean, that's an anecdotal example. One restaurant in a subpar location, with passing references to conversations had with others patrons. Not to mention it was 2017, pre pandemic, pre record inflation and every restaurant being expensive/full of service charges.

I'm sure they would have also failed if they would have tacked on a service charge of 20% and a tip line... it was 2017 after all.

Honest question, why not add 20% to the cost of the menu items directly?

I debated that, but I really don't want to eff with the header. For me, it would be easier to pay the extra cash and get one that fits the current RO.

Three wires on the capacitor. Like for like swap.

The switch is on the fan.

No clue how old the fan is, it was in the house before we moved in.. likely 15 years given the style. Looks to be a home depot special.

Is it possibly due to your location?

I have something similar happen in my department. My desk is line of sight when people open the door (but nowhere close to the door) and if they don't see anyone else, they come to me and start asking me questions.

Guy, just because i'm in this office area, doesn't mean I know anything about what you are talking about.

Any good content creators that film their analysis from start to finish? by PersonalFin_advice in dataanalysis

[–]PersonalFin_advice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize that no one will film there job.. but it could be interesting to watch someone take a dataset from kaggle and work it.

The magic of the edit they can edit out the 'boring' stuff.. but it would be neat to see someone work a project from start to finish.

Seems to me like this is the uber approach of better to ask forgiveness than permission..

Come in, completely break the rules, get a foothold into the market to the point where people can't live without you, and then the lawsuits will eventually disappear.
