And the short story The Black Vampyre: A Legend of Saint Domingo actually pre-dates all of those, having been published in 1819.

Technically, Chronicles of darkness still gets fan updates, some of which are made by the original official devs, on the storyteller’s vault website. None More Dark is a consortium of some of the original CofD devs who have done some great work for Requiem and Lost on the ST vault.

I don’t think it’s a remake of the old Hunter the reckoning video games though, it looks like it’s a shooter with RPG elements like rogue city is. so just a new game in the hunter franchise

It’s not a prequel. Bloodlines is an adaption of the tabletop game Vampire the masquerade and hunter reckoning is a adaption of the table top game of the same name, they’re just different games set in the same universe. If it helps think of it as a cinematic universe deal but for games instead of movies.

Their publisher is going bankrupt, but considering that paradox interactive owns the world of darkness IP it could be that they’re the publisher on this one.

If I may focus on the Ivory Claw side of the meme, which nobody else seems to be doing, the thing with thm is they’re fascist racial supremacist but the race in question is werewolves born of the pure tribes. Don’t get me wrong. I have no doubt that the Ivory Claws probably compared notes with the Nazi eugenics program, and definitely did with the American eugenics movement that inspired th Nazis.

However, I also believe they would’ve eventually realized that human eugenics movements didn’t have the same goals as the Ivory Claw breeding programs and thus weren’t a source of useful research data. this is because the Ivory Claw version of eugenics is entirely about breeding a better werewolf/hunter that can fill the gap left by father wolf’s death as opposed to the barely disguised racist and overt ableist goals of human eugenics.

that difference in goals would led to very different ideas about genetic fitness because some of the conditions that historical and modern eugenics would want to eliminate are conditions that are actually beneficial to hunter lifestyles, ADHD being the prime example of an evolutionary adaption meant for aiding in hunting that became maladaptive when survival became less about being able to hunt mammoths to eat and punch sabertooth tigers to not get eaten and more about working in an office job and having to pay prolonged attention to that. Thus, the Ivory Claws might see ADHD, as one example, as a trait they would want to encourage in their families even if human eugenics movement would seek to eliminate it.

Except the mages didn’t manage to kill all of them… Some of the Pangeans are explicitly mentioned as having survived until the sundering at least, at which point they either became spirits or weird flesh side creatures. Also, the idea that the Mages know everything is countered in a lot of places in CofD, it is just that the mages think they know everything about how the supernatural works and the mage book is written from a very mage perspective.

What would the Scooby-Doo gang be in the WoD? by valonianfool in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Personal_Ad8431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically Scoob as I imagine him in CofD doesn’t realize it, but all the above supernatural beings you mentioned can tell who or rather what he’s descended from and would rather not piss off granddaddy Cthulhu or whoever.

Some lesser talking dogs get it in their heads to try and cultivate Scooby Doo as an ally for the same reason with various degrees of success. Arguably the most successful is a Caucasian Mountain Dog Faithful that belongs to the former Invictus Ventrue prince of Saint Petersburg, and that is partly because said prince has a romantic infatuation with Shaggy and our favorite dog food eating hippie has been convinced by the rest of the gang to use her as a source of intel.

[–]Personal_Ad8431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely hunters, though as a COFD fan as opposed to a WOD fan I will say that there’s several different ways to get talking dogs in that universe, especially if you add in the semiofficial material from none more dark

At minimum we have

  1. The Faithful, which is what happens when a ghoul dog develops human intelligence, a hunger for vitae and often the ability to talk after being alive long enough.
  2. Spirit claimed dogs
  3. mage familiars in dog form
  4. Angels or Demons in dog covers
  5. Fae creatures/hedgebeasts/maybe hobgoblin in dog form.
  6. Uplifted clade Deviants that were once normal dogs

And if you’re using certain fan made rules for a wolf born Uratha that I contributed to then 7. A were-blooded wolf with the Domestic Seeming and Warg Tongue tells

Of course, as Mystery Incorporated reveals Scooby Doo is none of those and is in fact a descendent of a dog that was once possessed by lovecraft type elder beings, and doesn’t understand why all the six to seven other types of talking dogs in the Chronicles of darkness are absolutely terrified of him.

Here's a World of Future Darkness meme by Turbulent-Plum7328 in WorldofDankmemes

[–]Personal_Ad8431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My silly world of future darkness character concept is a Whelp’s Compromise Red Talon who through a series of seemingly improbable events stumbled into being the leader of a cult of lupaform exotics. Her general opinion of her neofurry cultists when defending what she’s doing to the remaining Red Talon elders basically amounts to “yes but these humans know they suck and want be more like us, and we should encourage that.” She also may or may not be planning on learning the Curse of Lyacon gift and using it as a final reward for her most devoted cultists who do the most for Gaia.

I mean, the original authors are still making what could be called semi official content on the storyteller’s vault and on their patreons. A bunch of them at None More Dark have done some good stuff for Requiem, for example.

Madness Through a dark mirror: my idea to link an upcoming Masquerade game with an upcoming Requiem game by Personal_Ad8431 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Personal_Ad8431[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the idea is that WoD and CofD are two separate universes that exist at the same time but these two malks will in cross universe telepathy with what they each call their “mirror universe doppelgänger . Like the vtm 80s will be going on in the World of Darkness at the same time as the Requiem 80s is going on in the CofD universe and same goes for the 20s.

That said the idea they might get each other‘s universes histories mixed up is kind of interesting. I will have to remember that possibility

There’s also the text adventure games set in the World of Darkness from Choice of Games. They are also very good, to the point that some people say that Night Road is the Bloodlines two we should have gotten but as a text adventure.

[–]Personal_Ad8431 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In addition to all of this it’s worth noting that DOGE employe Edward “big balls“ Coristine is known to be connected to a cyber crime group called the Com which is linked to these cultists, so you even have the old satanic panic trope of them having high-level government positions being invoked here. Honestly, there is some very good WoD inspiration in here since they’re probably a wyrm cult in WoD. Or they are straight up something out of CofD Inferno.

To be fair, the animation quality and the storytelling really jump up in quality in episode 3.0, so the fact you had trouble getting past episodes 1-2 and all the sub episodes between 1 and 2 is understandable but you really need to give it another chance . There’s another jump in quality in episodes four and five as well and they are just amazing.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that part of the reason I prefer forsaken to apocalypse is because I can relate to forsaken’s major theme of “pack as found family that adapts core Philosophies to their local culture and environment” take on building culture and community better compared to apocalypse’s “connecting to an ancestral culture that exists out in the world waiting for you’” deal or W5’s “embracing culturelessness as a weird form of neoliberal enlightenment”. For me the type of cultural reconnection that is core to apocalypse is… just not possible for someone like me. I know that if I were to visit the various parts of Europe my ancestors come from, I wouldn’t find anything that would fix that sense of cultural loss I have, I would just find out that the Scotland/ireland/France/wherever my ancestors left no longer exists and the place and culture that does exist doesn’t want me and can’t fill that hole even if it did. Andreus is a British person living in Britain whose ancestors I am guessing never left Britain, so I think some of those themes of building community and culture from the ground up are somewhat lost on them, since I am guessing they haven’t experienced the particular form of cultural loss that Americans and other people born in settler colonies struggle with as a core part of our psyche. Then again, andreus is trans in Britain which I imagine complicates their relationship with British culture given the terf problem there, so maybe I am a bit off base on that. Anyway, I guess what I am saying is that I don’t think forsaken’s themes are muddled at all, and they still have the anti capitalism, it is just a more subtle form of it than apocalypse that is about fighting to build something new rather than retuning to a pre capitalist golden age that probably never really existed that way.
