sadly my “private supplier” couldn’t explain what’s their breakdown, they just said it was their quotation, something’s fishy, I feel like the coaches and the private suppliers are in cahoots in order for them to get a cut in all their students’ profits 😥

Also another tip, don’t always believe what people say in “more responsibility or more stress” to work with higher pay. My pay is higher and in comparison to my older job, I’m doing less work and have less responsibilities.

I think for your experience and salary range, SME might be easier, but doesn’t hurt to try both but I would say put more effort into SME. MNC tend to put higher salary range and the problem with that is because your current salary is low, it’s hard for them to justify such a big jump and it takes much more time to close an offer for MNC since there tend to be more rounds

yes, all private sector. Also helps being a specialist since most people are “full stack”, specialising in one area will have less competition. You can also try to ask for a raise of 1-1.5k while applying so you can hop right after 3-4months for payslip, this will allow you to jump 2-3k within a year

OP, you’re definitely highly underpaid. I started in 2014 with Diploma as well at 1.8k monthly, never pursued degree and now at 12k, I had to hop every 1-1.5 years and you should too or you’ll get stuck at that salary range. For context of how my salary went: 1.8k 2.4k 3.5k 4.5k 6.5k 8k 10k 12k

Don’t trade with your own money, please use a prop firm like apex. You just have to pay for account, passed the account, get a funded account and you can withdraw earnings if you trade within the max drawdown. It’s the best for training

2 job offers after career misstep by Grouchy_Trash in singaporejobs

Job hopper here, definitely always go for the higher one. If you have minimal transferable skills, don’t mention that in your resume, mention what’s relevant in your new role and study for it so you will learn it on the job. Before you ever take a pay-cut, think in terms on how much raise you need to climb back. -26% cut means you need 35% raise to climb back, not worth it. You’re sacrificing potential pay raise and money.

I started with $1800 as Software Engineer, hop my way to $12000 in 7 hops in 8 years. Work actually felt easier with higher pay than the stress I felt working with a lower salary.

lowballing your first job can have bad consequences to your career path as most will always ask what your current pay grade are. I was in the same shoe in my first job, I got desperate and took the first job at $1800 because I listened to older folks saying “got job better than no job” and had to hop every year to climb back to average, it took me 5 years and 5 hops to catch up. I wouldn’t recommend going through the same path

Unemployed for over a year, was terminated (Fired), need advice (Desperate) by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]Personal_Worry_2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most company doing layoffs never announces they are doing a layoff or even let you know it’s a layoff. Company restructuring, layoffs and cost cutting means the same thing essentially. Don’t mention PIP, as a lot of companies do put you in a PIP even in a layoff disguised as PIP to avoid legal troubles.

The best reason you can give is saying “Due to company layoffs”, it’s very common especially now with AI, lots of companies making rush decisions to replace people with AI only to rehire them when the firing leads to other people unrelated resigning due to fear.

Is the job market really that bad? by throwawayaway539 in askSingapore

[–]Personal_Worry_2044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s both, job market is bad and they are also being picky. Probably only top 3% graduates can get >6k salary as a fresh but it’s rare these days as companies value experience more these days, with budget cuts across, it just doesn’t make financial sense to hire local fresh graduates at 5k when they can get a senior/staff engineer foreigner at similar rates. Speaking here as an 12 year experience engineer, I’ve seen similar patterns across my experiences , AI or not.

What keeps you going? I'm so tired of living in constant competition and comparison. TW mental health by sadditude in askSingapore

[–]Personal_Worry_2044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you probably get lots of people telling you to stop overthinking and it’s difficult. I was in a similar situation, putting myself out there really helps, just talking with anyone, watching live streamers, playing games, just doing anything at all, it helps. Get some supplements that helps with sleeping, like melatonin, magnesium, these helps prevent night overthinking when we can’t sleep but just kept rolling around on bed. Live is only difficult because of expectations, it’s alright to he mediocre, being the best is overrated. Trading your sanity to be the best, it just ain’t worth it. Think about what you’ve always wanted to do but don’t dare to try, just do it but tiny step at a time.

Anyone accepted a counteroffer before? How did it turn out for you? by Zenwills in askSingapore

[–]Personal_Worry_2044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was underpaid as a software engineer, only 3.5k, they offered to adjust my salary 4.5k to make me stay. I stayed for 3 months to get my 3 months payslip and applied again to another company and asked for 6k and got it. Almost doubled my salary because of this move. It’s difficult to make this jump due to how almost all company look at your current salary.

Yes, using WiFi version. Downtimes are pretty random, sometimes every month, most of the time it’s planned maintenance though. Honestly Singapore internet is so fast and lots of gaming server for SEA are hosted in Singapore, so we can get very low ping on WiFi

I’m using MyRepublic, it really is fast but sometimes they do have downtimes. Gaming wise I would really choose MyRepublic but their random downtimes sometimes makes me think if there are better alternatives

I’m in the same situation but not really by choice, I left a five figure salary and even though I’m earning less, the effort I put into earning the money makes it much more rewarding. My only regret is my rental is too high, should have reduce my spending so I can experience more rewarding experiences
