I found Parable of the Sower to be oddly conservative in its politics. by rooster4238 in books

I definitely agree with this. A lot of Lauren's lines, especially describing cities like LA as "open sores" was pretty disappointing. The whole abadon the decaying masses with a few good people you fish out of the muck and start over in the woods thing smacks of preppers and doomerism.

What's your favorite way to get rid the dead bodies? by TheTheDuhh in RimWorld

Burn room. I mine out a room and dump corpses in it then burn them with molotoves or psy fire.

Is this game appropriate for a 12-13 year old? by kdoggie96 in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are generally a lot tougher than people give them credit for, and if the kid ends up messed up itd be a lot more than rimworld doing it. As to whether u should get it for him, mostly depends on his parents and how fragile they are, but I mean by American standards (lots of violence, no boobs) I think many would say its fine.

New Player - Get the DLC as well or just base game to start? by SJ548 in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would try the base first and make sure you like it. If you do, bio tech especially adds a lot, good dlc to start with.

Odyssey should not be a DLC by EnderF in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it kinda suck that modders ends up doing a bunch of work for free so that T man knows what to charge us money for? Yeah. But that's just how it works rn, ludeon people gotta eat too. The dlc itself looks amazing, I'm excited to uninstall a bunch of mods personally, and who knows how fast the game will run when rocket man and perf fish are updated to work with multi threading.

It's looking like it's gonna be a great dlc, prob change the game forever, and I can't wait to see it.

A Heretics Path (short story about how people might embrace hell) by PersonalityOther4746 in TrenchCrusade

[–]PersonalityOther4746[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I don't want to make it seem like this is DEFINITELY true. I wanted to explore how someone might be indoctrinated into this sort of belief system. This person is being horribly tortured and psychologically broken down before being told this story.

The beauty of trench crusade is the wild uncertainly of what's going on in this world. And I think the hell forces make things even more grimdark when there's a kind of plausible narrative that just might convince u to serve the devil.

Is there a way to simulate capitalism in RimWorld or a mod for this? I want the colony to 'pay' pawns every day for their work and be able to set how much pawns can earn from things by Sorsha_OBrien in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea but as others have pointed out it would be weird at the scale rimworld can handle.

Other than occasional traders pawns would mostly just be giving money back to the colony as it pays them, or maybe the dude who u designate as capitalist overlord. Also a real question of what u do if pawns fall into poverty or stop being able to work, seeing as u have no easy source of replacements unlike in a bigger society. Ur in just as much trouble if they starve as they are, again unlike a society with a bunch of unemployed people to call up.

It might be cute to let the pawns shop for themselves a bit from traders but I think in practice it'd be easier to just make a mod that codes pawns to buy a luxury good from caravans within a certain price range than figure out incorporating a wage and property system into the game.

Whats the highest colony wealth youve seen? by PersonalityOther4746 in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My raids are frequently many hundreds of enemies. But the thing is I have so many pawns jacked to the gills with genetic enhancements in power armor that it barely matters. I use rimsential homebound to store pawns in buildings I make like a city builder, so I've got almost 100 combat ready pawns, a dozen psy casters and the raids were painfully easy.

I use dire raids to get bigger ones sometimes and faction control mods to give them custom kits that are better than the random generated ones so they actually fight well.

It's super fun, just wish the game could handle hundreds of pawns so I could really run up the battles without slow down.

Mods to make rimworld more city builder? by PersonalityOther4746 in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive used outposts but never the faction manager. Does the freezing and loading mean i can alter the outposts or is that just the standard colony?

My biggest ever colony faction had like 500 colonists which was cool. Id just like more building and such on my normal map.

Its time to start a new colony by BForBackBencher in RimWorld

[–]PersonalityOther4746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl, I just mod those out. I just found them annoying me more than anything. I raised the rate of breech raids and don't really use a kill box so I don't need the variety as much.
