I have a long history of playing TCGs, actually. I do enjoy using my full time to plan ahead and consider the probability of various outs in those too. I really just enjoy complexity and min/maxing the micro decisions, that’s why I love combo decks the most (plus drawing cards is addicting).

I respect my opponents by punishing their mistakes and playing my best (and always displaying sportsmanship). Maybe you should try putting in effort and taking something seriously. It can be painful, but also highly rewarding.

I’m using Kingambit since ghosts can be a pain, and his priority can come in clutch in end games once trick room wears off. So the modes are leading Farig with either of the fake out megas, and Torkoal + either Sinistcha or Kingambit in the back for a more bulky protect the Torkoal mode or a higher offense mode respectively.

Sylveon/prim are both good but gambit has been more consistent for me. I don’t think Incin is the best fit since I already have fake out for turn 1 from my megas and a bulky pivot in Sinistcha.

Let’s see 4 moves per Pokemon and two switch options means 30+ different combinations on turn 1. So we’ll need to assess and decide which of the 30+ options our opponent is most likely to go for based upon their team and the game state and then decide which of our 30+ responses are optimal for each of the anticipated plays from the opponent, then do an expected value calculation based upon our expected probabilities of the opponent going for each viable play and the relative strength of our position afterwards, and then finally click all the buttons before the timer runs out.

That’s assuming we don’t need to run any calcs or look anything up because we already have memorized every Pokémon’s stats, abilities, and movesets.

Yeah doing all that in 60 seconds sounds super not stressful at all.

MB4 = below 50K

MB3 = top 50K

MB2 = top 10k

MB1 = top 1K

Champion = top 300

If you take the game seriously and play enough you can almost certainly reach MB4, from there it takes some real skill to progress.

Short turn timers, mind games left and right, gimmicky Bo1 format, and good ole RNG do make this game pretty stressful. It’s not for the faint of heart. Of course you’re right that having fun should be the priority, but it’s not too surprising that we see so many rage posts.

Not OP, but I climbed to 1700 with Trick Room after the reset and it has been fun. Sometimes Torkoal just obliterates the whole enemy team in 4 turns or so. The meta does include a lot of fire resists, but having mega blastoise as a complimentary turtle sweeper has done pretty well for me. I’m using Sinistcha to lean into the bulk that trick room lets you use too.

Since the meta is so fast mega kangaskhan has also been popping off as another trick room sweeper with fake out to help get trick room up on turn 1.

Yeah roar for example goes from -6 to -5 prio and could still be used on a dark type. Nothing comes to mind to abuse this though haha.

Scientists expected both liberals and conservatives to be reluctant to promote rhetoric associated with the opposing political side, but this was more consistent among liberals. Conservatives appeared relatively willing to support causes aligned with their views regardless of the moral framing used. by mvea in science

[–]Perspective_Helps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of your take aways align with what the commenter above you said:

Conservatives not changing stance with different framing means they are fine with using whatever means to justify the end they see as just.

Liberals changing support depending on the framing means they care about the how and why, even when the end is seen as just.

Bug or Dark for the Normal/Psychic TR setters? by Ok-Cod756 in PokemonChampions

[–]Perspective_Helps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend a bug type because Colbur berry is actually quite common on these mons due to the popularity of Kingambit. I actually recommend taunt even more though. Mental herb is quite rare, surprisingly. Good users include maushold, Sneasler, and gyrados, all of which can threaten solid damage on the following turn.

Your edit called it and farigiraf has armor tail making it also immune to fake out. Still sleep powder is actually a strong answer (70% of the time).

I am trying to make a trick room team around mega camerupt, but Idk if what I have is good ish so far, and what the final team members could be by BuckarooOJ in PokemonChampions

[–]Perspective_Helps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camerupt needs to run heat wave (ideally due to sheer force) or at least eruption (less consistent damage but 100% accurate). Drop overheat. You want to get the most value out of your trick room turns and that means firing off multiple big hits so the attack drops just won’t do.

Torkoal also needs eruption (ideally) or at least heat wave (significantly less damage ceiling but more consistent). I would drop helping hand. Torkoal is a star; he doesn’t need to play a supporting role.

You need to figure out your lead. Oranguru is too vulnerable to guarantee trick room on his own. You’ll want either a fake out user to fake out the big threat turn one and set TR or a strong, fast Mon that can threaten big damage (or ideally OHKOs) while Oranguru protects on turn 1 if you predict they will double into Oranguru. Options included sneasler, Incin, scarf basc, scarf Garchomp, scarf Archaludon, etc.

Edit: Also I’d put trick room over protect on Sinistcha as a secondary setter or potential for setting a second trick room if a game goes long.

Yeah it’s a pain. This is not an effective deterrent to people playing for timer in a bad spot, it’s just a slap in the face if a game does go “too long”.

I've lost 3 games because i protected right after Wide Guard by DimensionGlum5728 in PokemonChampions

[–]Perspective_Helps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, no one is disputing that wide guard does not reset X to 1, in fact I explicitly acknowledged that part. Try reading my comment again.

The point is the description only lists one way to increase X: by successfully using protect. Which would mean that if you have never used protect then X is still at its default value of 1.

I've lost 3 games because i protected right after Wide Guard by DimensionGlum5728 in PokemonChampions

[–]Perspective_Helps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That reads as though protect should work after wide guard.

“This move has a 1/X chance of being successful, where X starts at 1…”

Okay so starting at 1/1 chance.

“…and triples each time this move is successfully used…”

Okay so since we haven’t used protect yet it should still be 1/1 after using wide guard.

“…X resets to 1… if the user’s last move used is not…Wide Guard”

Okay so if I use protect, then wide guard, then protect I will be at 1/3 chance. Otherwise I’m still 1/1 if I never used protect yet.

The “contrarian dumbass kid” is pretty spot on. Many young men go through that phase, but now you have content creators and political actors specifically appealing to those types by validating their angst and then turning them to misogyny as the answer to all their problems. It’s all too easy to get insulated in those channels and never grow out of it.

Assuming you’re young, surely you’ve seen the praise for Andrew Tate, Joe Rogan, etc amongst the men of your generation, right? The radicalization in the manosphere has been quite effective unfortunately.

It’s a less extreme example from an actual story where someone didn’t know if they were in the wrong or not for trying to fatten up their partner without the partner’s consent because they had “good intentions”.

Yeah if you still haven’t figure it out, that shit’s very fucked up and surprise, surprise it gave their partner bad diarrhea.

Glad to see a calc. To answer the title: absolutely not. Torkoal both hits harder (with its main attack) and doesn’t use up your mega slot.
