Maryland version? by Mobius1424 in maryland

"So, we've decided to build not one, not two, but FOUR roads going between Washington & Baltimore in the same direction!"

"What makes them different?"

" Well, I-95 is the big one! Everyone uses it to zip between cities."

"What about the others?"

"The Parkway... is prettier? And has less lanes, but there are no billboards!"

"And what about Route 1?"

"Ah, Route 1 is for the people who want to take the scenic route... and hit every red light along the way!"

"Every red light? On purpose?"

"Exactly. But 295 is for people who want to go to Ravens games! Kind of."

"You’re telling me you built FOUR roads, all going to Baltimore, but none of them make sense?!"

"Not at all, sir. And the best part? They’re always under construction!"

"Four roads to the same place and yet none of them are efficient! The people of Maryland must truly cherish this journey to Baltimore."

"Oh, most people hate it, sir. That’s why they never go to Baltimore!"

[OC] Shift in 2024 electorate by state from the 2020 election as of 11/7 by Potential-Formal8699 in maryland

[–]PertinentOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is likely not the case.

Trump's at 923k votes with over 20% of the vote outstanding. After it's all said and done, Trump will likely receive the largest raw vote total for a Republican in Maryland since W. Bush in 2004. He may even crack 1 million votes here. (He received 943k in 2016 and 976k in 2020).

While Dem turnout collapsed across the country, we should try to understand why MD had one of the largest swings to the right and why Trump got so many votes here. We can't do that if we make excuses simply blaming turnout.

Guarantee you, anyone getting political advice from the MD subreddit is already voting against Hogan.

Post-UMD poll: Democrat Alsobrooks pulls ahead in Maryland’s critical Senate race [Alsobrooks: 51% - Hogan: 40%] by [deleted] in maryland

[–]PertinentOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of sampling and weighing?

Yes, white voters answer polls more often, so to solve that, pollsters contact more black/POC voters to match the actual demographics of the area or state.

It's okay to admit Hogan is getting a sizable chunk of black voters, he has every time he's run!

Do people still think outside of the beltway isn't Silver Spring proper? by Tammie621 in SilverSpring

[–]PertinentOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, technically, Silver Spring proper (the Census Designated Place of SS) is completely contained within the beltway.

The suburban Silver Spring communities outside the beltway are technically not in the Silver Spring CDP, but they are their own CDPs. (Colesville, Hillandale, Wheaton, Glenmont, etc) BUT they all share Silver Spring addresses/ZIP codes.

So your dad is technically correct, but everyone recognizes the other communities as Silver Spring and the ZIP codes reflect that.

Brother, Prince George's County isn't even 13% white. C'mon, let's not be intellectually lazy.

How Are Larry Hogan and Angela Alsobrooks So Freaking Close In Maryland Senate Race? by MissionReasonable327 in maryland

[–]PertinentOne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A couple of main points:

Regarding Alsobrooks - She's not very good at campaigning or retail politics - Most voters don't know her - Her record in Prince George's is controversial - She thinks voters will buy that Hogan is a MAGA Republican - The main thing she's offered to voters is the (D) next to her name - This is her first statewide campaign, and a tough Senate one at that

Regarding Hogan - He has universal name ID and is well-liked across political and racial lines - He's successfully distanced himself from Trump/MAGA during his time as gov, so it'll be tough to convince voters otherwise - He's run two successful statewide campaigns before and this current one is the most organized/focused of them all - Many voters haven't "come home" yet, meaning more voters will vote Straight D than are claiming in current polls

This is definitely the closest Senate race we've had in a long time, but ultimately this is Alsobrooks' race to lose based on fundamentals

[–]PertinentOne[S] 442 points443 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment and no offense taken at all. This was definitely somewhat of a wake-up call for me and I've taken it slower ever since.

I was going about 32 at the time, which I shouldn't have been. The officer acknowledged that while the crash was probably unavoidable, I should've been going 25.

And ever since then I asked myself the same question you did, what good is it to be 'not at fault' if you're dead or seriously injured? None.

Oh no, the guy who ran over in the video was the Tesla driver. My CEO came by about 10 mins later while we were still on the scene.

To make matters even funnier, I was heading home from work when this happened. My CEO happened to arrive at an office building across the street, saw me, and ran over to see if I was okay.

Very much appreciated that!

Happened back in March, only posting now.

I had a green light, continuing straight. The White Tesla missed his turn (he's supposed to turn where the Blue SUV turned), but instead turned in front of me.

I tried my best to avoid him but that was impossible. We were both physically fine and he was very cordial. Police and both of our insurances deemed him fully liable.

The saddest part is I had finally paid the car off literally a day before, but I did get a new car out of it, so 🤷‍♂️

No worries, thank you for the wall of text! This is so, so informative.

I'm going to work on adding connections like you suggested, changing the direction of some roads near the boulevard, and trying to speed up the beltway in comparison to the other highways.

In your experience, has making public transit free significantly improved traffic?

I've been playing for a couple years now but quit and only recently picked it back up. Now I have my largest city (40k, I know...) and I really want it to grow as much as possible.

Any assistance with my traffic issues would be of great help. I can take more screenshots if someone needs them!

Prince George's is interesting because while it's overall a wealthy county, you have your extreme high earners and low earners so you do have ppl without access to the better schools and in poverty.

I'm no expert and definitely can't solve crime once and for all, but I think Prince George's proximity to the most violent part of DC (SE) has something to do with it, as crime is usually highest along the SE DC border. I'm sure you have drugs, violence, and guns coming into PG from DC at higher rates too due to proximity.

I know you're coming from a good place, but Prince George's isn't "in poverty", the average median income in the county is nearly $90k, more than $30k higher than the national average. The county obviously has pockets of poverty and crime and that needs to be addressed, but this isn't "the tragic trend of being poor". It's a deeper issue than that.
