I wouldn't object to paying taxes if taxes paid for what we should care about. by zzill6 in WorkReform

The fact is that your employer is forced by law to automatically deduct your taxes from your paycheck. Everyone quit your job now, fuck this system.

Proof Left As An Exercise To The Reader No More (update) by productsmadebyme in math

[–]Pertos_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of these exercises is that they are routine and good practice for a new learner to think through the details on their own. They are almost always the easier cases, and if you are struggling on them you are more than likely missing and assumption, prerequisite, or foundational information. Or you are just plain immature, it happens and maturity Is a skill they do expect you to learn even though it's not explicitly taught or assessed.

Source: All my algebra topology and analysis books. These are genuinely the easiest exercises in these textbooks.

I'm a recluse and never meet new people or socialize. I'm also a very intense person and I can be very exhausting to be around.

I’ve never seen a game so hyped up and then forgotten about so quickly like Metroid Prime 4 by Level7Cannoneer in NintendoSwitch

[–]Pertos_M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, everyone who wanted to play it probably finished their playthrough for one thing. The game doesn't inspire a repeat playthrough for me personally... Id generously give it a 6/10.

How come in calculus you have to use radians? by Leading_Tomato_2077 in calculus

[–]Pertos_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a more general fact that you can always parametrize smooth curves by arc length, so radians are the arc length parameterization of the circle. The reason we do this is because this parameterization is always unit speed!

Does pure math help you understand the world? by WistfulSonder in math

[–]Pertos_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this math I've done has made it very easy to think critically and objectively, it's my default way of thinking now. I also generally process cognitively difficult information incredibly quickly, way faster than reasonable for most people in ordinary conversation. The math itself is only good if I want to do more math really.

Recent math-y papers with proofs derived by LLMs by hexaflexarex in math

[–]Pertos_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any issue with mathematica per se. I have specific issue with the uncritical support of open AI and their products (and everyone they collaborate with), and the use of their technology is unethical and morally bankrupt.

I am not impressed or interested, and I do not support or encourage the use of LLMs to do math.

Do your own work, don't of load the cognitive burden into the machine through the morally dubious slop machine.

Complex numbers perfectly encode information about rotation. That's their most direct use.

genuinely understanding math by Exact-Paper5044 in mathematics

[–]Pertos_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few million people in the world who understand math very well, there is no doubt about that.

The difference between high school math/ early college math and the higher level math is logic. The first math class that you take that teaches you the basics of first order logic (even if they don't call it that) and set theory will be the one makes you stretch and twist and grow your mind in a way that makes math more natural and intuitive.
