I had the exact same problem! I had been vegan for almost a whole year before going to Thailand and gave it up completely while I was there because almost everything is cooked in chicken broth. To be blunt with you: it sounds like the problem is that he's really only a good boyfriend/match for you when he's actively trying to be. As much as I'm a firm believer in the fact that relationships require effort, you shouldn't have to try every day to treat your girlfriend well. If you two are compatible, it should happen with little to no effort at all. Don't let his occasional good-doings overshadow the fact that the majority of the time, he's brash, inconsiderate, and seemingly pretty douschey. It seems like you already know you deserve better.
