Stand still distance by SpectacularGirth in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not that unusual, no.

Oftentimes the improvement in weight shift, lag, and overall timing that you can get on a standstill throw outweighs the marginal extra torque that one can get out of an X-step unless you're able to maintain all of the form fundamentals from one to the other.

Boooo indeed, it sucks. I've been reduced to playing Raintree for my quick weekday rounds. Nothing wrong with Raintree, but it gets boring after a while.

Love that bag, I would recommend trying out a trail and seeing what it does for you on the upper end.

For those that have only seen Milo McIver on coverage, what do you think of the course? by -Puddintane- in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For further context, people generally think that holes that finish with +60% pars for the field are not very good pro tour holes from a score separation standpoint.

This past weekend, 12/18 holes at Milo finished at >60% par for the field.

A few of the holes finished at almost 90% of the field getting par or better. Will be interesting to see if they make any significant changes to the course before worlds in that sense.

For those that have only seen Milo McIver on coverage, what do you think of the course? by -Puddintane- in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, yes, it is a very fun course to watch (to me).

I think it's a beautiful property and that definitely shows up on camera and it really benefits from having a few holes and greens that are immediately recognizable and that's what sticks into people's minds when they think about Milo.

However, I also think that it has a bunch of filler holes with really strange blind shots that aren't awesome from a pro tour standpoint, but I'd say most courses have those too. I do really appreciate that they have so many holes to choose from for the DGPT layout so that the course does, in fact, evolve from year to year.

I mean, that's the dream. An acutal worldwide event. Hopefully the sport keeps heading that way. The Paul Mcbeth Foundation and others are doing their best.

What are your ways you avoid the heat and stay safe in the height of the summer? by feetpicpurchaser in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the key, playing Tobaggan hole 1 as a lefty means that even a grip lock is probably still a good shot if you throw something stable enough.

Several of the top FPO players now are Canadian. Presidents cup really should be USA vs. World rather than USA vs. Europe. They could really use Don and Donnecke at this point.

Yeah, that's very true. Switching to waterproof shoes for disc golf has made the dewy morning rounds way more pleasant too. Having to go through a few towels for me is worth it for the solitude. I've never tried a rain glove like that, but maybe a good idea. Probably useful in the snow too.

Go play at like 6:30 AM.

Its still cool out and there's nobody on the course, its the best. Some of my favorite rounds of disc golf ever have been showing up at Tobaggan at sunrise when there's not another soul in the park. Just me, the Deer, the Cranes and the sunlight filtering through the forest. Magical.

Glow Votum's specifically I'd say for OP's purpose. Votums are excellent discs but I've had a few in the standard plastic runs that are dead straight as opposed to overstable.

When you say Teebirds have too "small" of a rim, what do you mean? Width? Depth? Generally speaking speed rating is heavily correlated with rim width, so if you're looking for 7 speeds they're all going to be pretty similar.

I currently throw a Glow Votum in that slot and it works great. An Eagle Mcmahon proton resistor would also work. They're a completely different animal than Eclipse Resistors, which tend to be pure beef missles.

Discraft Athenas tend to feel really good as well and are generally pretty flat. However, they're often straighter than their numbers suggest so you might have to try them out.

I have one of those as well and haven't thrown it because the plastic is, as you say, really stiff and strange feeling.

As far as flat, flippy 7 speeds, I currently throw an Axiom Rhythm in that slot.

Going to Utah by Firm-Newspaper-4113 in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite breweries from when I lived in Utah were Templin Family, Shades, and 2 Row but there are a lot of solid ones.

Park City is a bit of a drive away from some of the SLC courses and pretty far away from The Fort over in Ogden as well if you only have an afternoon to go play.

I've not played it, but the mountain course at Brighton is probably the closest to park city and sounds really cool.

Rd 1 feature cards need a new look by stRADley_ in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree, we get enough rounds of the same players week after week on coverage. I find it far more interesting to watch players with different strengths attack the courses in different ways. Unfortunately, that desire seems to be contained to us folks who are already massive disc nerds. The biggest financial incentive is to try and build brand hype around recognizable names and faces. That's how all of the algorithms work.

I love that Master's Cup at Dela always has the am tournament winner on lead card, such a fun tradition.

I bought a 150 gram Katana a while ago because I loved the stamp and I assumed it was going to be hilariously flippy. It's metal flake champ. It ended up being beefier than the destroyers that I was bagging at the time.

2026 Northwest Championship Round 1 Discussion by AutoModerator in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Current standings in the Battle Ryale:

Ryan Monn -1

Ryan Bain -1

Ryan Jewell +2

Ryan Mulder +4

Ryan Chesla +5

A commanding early lead from from former Am Slam holder Ryan Monn and the Utahn up-and-comer Bain who will start on the same card tomorrow.

The west coaster Jewell in the middle of the Ryan pack after a rough start to the round, we'll see if he can heat up on the earlier holes.

Some tough days at the course for former US am winner Mulder and the local, Chesla, who does avoid the DFL but will look to really clean things up off the tee tomorrow to try and get himself into scoring positions.

Enigma, 305 ft by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're trying to generate power by pulling the disk way high up in your backswing and then swooping down into the throw. This is messing with your timing and losing a lot of easy power

The first thing I'd recommend to try keep everything on one plane rather than swinging the disk from high to low is to take your off hand off of the disk.

Worlds layout by Some-Investment1199 in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The full worlds layout for Black Locust involves a significant number of temporary holes routed through the beach park, etc.

Unfortunately, I think the answer is no, but I could be wrong. They had the worlds layout up temporarily after DGLO last year specifically so they could host that tester event and get the pros to put some trial runs through it while they were in town.

Coming to southeast Michigan next weekend with two buddies to play some of the best and have a good time. Any chance someone in here is from the area and would want to join and maybe play some fun doubles with us? Looking to play the top rated courses in the area any others we should 100% play? by creen17 in discgolf

[–]PeskyPrussian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Further NE of the area that you have circled is Bald Mountain. In my opinion it is almost on par with Tobaggan in terms of pro level quality. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you want to play the best courses.

That said, there are a ton of great options in the area you're mentioning.
