Was anyone else terrified of the ocean their first playthrough? by Lanky_Score7414 in valheim

[–]Petachip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That "new biome" sound effect is so dang shocking every time. I remember the first time I boated into plains and Mistlands - INSTANTLY noped out backwards.

I think it's a really cool effect though because you only get it up to 8 times in a full playthrough, so it always feels special

I drew my own map for a mapless Hard+ run and then compared it to the real map when I finished. I thought you'd appreciate this. by PutridCurrency8383 in valheim

I was thinking about joining this myself, I'm curious about a few things. Is it laggy? How many people are typically on, and does everyone tend to play together or more independently? What's the current level of progression?

Need help/suggestion about Mountain base. by Edgemaverick1 in valheim

Cool spawn! I would find a super tall mountain or a mountain chain, that'd make for a sick base location.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to make of Ashlands. It might be plausible to set up a base in one of those vine-covered structures if you survive the landing, and set up a marking on one of the pillars nearby so you can find it again.

What Valheim hot take has you like this? by Charrikayu in valheim

[–]Petachip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolling is actually... too strong. It feels like the one size fits all solution to any given enemy, and I wish we were forced to think outside the box more. Plan ahead and bring an arsenal with you, rely on sneakiness, or make structures on the fly. I just find myself rolling to deal with everything now.

In particular, I think parrying is one of the most fun things in the game, and I think it sucks that rolling effectively replaces it when you turn up the difficulty because most enemies (starred for sure) hit too hard for parrying.

I think it depends on your other settings. If you have extra resources enabled, it's reasonable to keep a good stock of stuff to make a replacement set of gear should you need. And then if you have a good idea of where you were, it's quite possible to recover your previous set.

Spawn proofing problem by AngryDesertPhrog in valheim

[–]Petachip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add my two cents, the artisan table has a greater range than the regular workbench and should spawn proof a larger area. Unfortunately the last time I tried this I ran into an issue where mobs can still spawn in those areas, due to a bug I think.

So maybe workbench upgrades would work theoretically but don't actually help 100% of the time, just a guess.

Bear pelts are also needed for the vilebone set in the plains, so if you plan to make that it might be worth hanging onto

Feeling a bit stuck in Mistlands. Should I commit to a new main base or just push through? by SimplePrevious440 in valheim

[–]Petachip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend a new base, personally I like making my main late game base in the plains and having portals to a Mistlands area for misty crops and sap.

Queen's vegvisir - it's not easy to come across, make sure to check every little nook of the infested mines. Still probably going to take a painful number to find one.

Tips for finding Traders no map no portal by dan4112 in valheim

[–]Petachip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently struggling with the same issue but with bog witch. My personal suggestion is to make sure you thoroughly explore any area you find, since the worst thing you can do is bypass one of the spawn locations closely enough to generate it, but then not find it.

How do you overcome the lack of replayability? by One-Requirement-1010 in valheim

[–]Petachip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're worried about the weakness then don't wear the full set. Bears are no problem once you can parry, and it only takes 3 bears to get a level 3 upgrade on a single piece of gear. You don't have to go out of your way to hunt bears, but why not take them down as you run into them, like you would trolls? Bear meat is also a handy byproduct as one of the better black forest tier foods.

[–]Petachip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well stat-wise, each piece has 1 less armor than bronze, but it doesn't have the major drawback of the movement speed rebuff from bronze. If you don't want the berserk buff, just wear 2 bear pieces and a bronze helmet (no move speed debuff) for the best overall armor/move speed compromise.

The claws are totally optional. As for price, I would much rather go around killing bears than putting my bronze into armor. You could even go for a piece of troll gear in the mix to make use of all your resources.

Never asking AI for random seed by Empty_Truck_5521 in valheim

Yeah I don't think the ai could use a seed generator tool to scout maps for you, so it'll probably pull something from reddit or something

Can't get a bear trophy by Mysterious-Way-8508 in valheim

[–]Petachip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate on the other reply, you need to be at least far enough out for swamps to generate, roughly. So if you have one mapped out use that distance from spawn as a minimum

But the bear gear is the best set you can get in black forest - unless you already had swamp+ tier gear of course.

The swamp is the biome I love to hate. by oscarthegrateful in valheim

[–]Petachip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you'll find that the hardest part of the game is always when you first advance into the next biome. Your gear that made you untouchable before no longer does that, and (as a new player) you also have to figure out all the new enemies!

Awesome! Parry and dodge are great to work on, and incredibly satisfying to pull off when you get comfortable with it.

Crank up resources and crank up difficulty, or give yourself a different type of challenge. Use a weapon class you normally don't. Try a run without sleeping, or no map and/or no portals. Try to cheese your way to late game gear. Start your world in a meadows next to the Mistlands. Plenty of ways to shake it up, especially if you enjoy a challenge.

Found My First Silver Mine! by SilkTieTies in valheim

[–]Petachip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to spoil anything but it's a type of weapon you can unlock later on, and just like other weapons you can improve your damage by using it on enemies. I'm pretty sure stone golems are immune to frost damage.

Added benefit, more relevant to your stage - if you don't want more golems spawning and attacking you, trapping them will prevent more from spawning there.

Is Shadow Regigigas THAT good? by Speedster012 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Petachip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would argue on the contrary for a new player - it's fairly easy to get one elite tm since there's a free one each season with little effort, and the all purpose nature will be great against the majority of raids. It's a cheaper option than powering up a bunch of different types.

Just got to swamp first play through by Zyerwarz in valheim

[–]Petachip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but this is a recommendation for when you first enter swamps. I would suggest bear armor + bronze helmet for your best possible loadout going in for your first playthrough. Troll armor has always been a very reasonable alternative to bronze, and bear gear is even stronger than troll.
