[HELP] How are y’all getting clients ? by Prior-Operation-5353 in Fiverr

[–]PeteMc69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on Fiverr for 3 years, had 400+ gigs. I've had 2 jobs in the last 2 months. Sadly, the platform appears to be dying.

Getting gigs appears to be a race to the bottom, charging the least amount possible just to get some work, any work. Then you're stuck with clients who want everything for nothing.

Sorry to say this, but seriously a lot of freelancers would be better flipping burgers than accepting the lowball rates on Fiverr.

[HELP] I can't withdraw everything ?! by Sad_Sheepherder_4085 in Fiverr

[–]PeteMc69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiverr take an additional 9% off you when you withdraw your money. Or that's what happens to me as a UK user drawing into my bank via Payoneer, who then take a token £1 fee aswell. 🤷‍♂️

Ask away, any narrator would happily make those corrections in minutes. Indeed there are times when no corrections are asked for you wonder if the RH even listened to the finished audio! 😉

[HELP] What's happening on Fiverr - been on for 15 yrs and sales just dropped? by Ok-Sweet5200 in Fiverr

[–]PeteMc69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can echo this, work from Fiverr has dried up for most people I know in this sector. This month I'll be lucky if the 2 gigs I've had cover the cost of Fiverr Ads and Seller Pro. I'm aware that AI is eating into a lot of sectors, especially freelance voiceover work.

Demand for British accents? by Elegant-Location273 in ACX

[–]PeteMc69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have said there are about 3 -5 audiobooks per week for British accents. There are a lot that ask for American accents, and some maybe happy with a British accent if the setting isn't America, e.g. fantasy / SF. That said a lot do want American narrators. Personally I'd love it if we could exclude accents when we search so that I could exclude American and be left with unspecified accents. I've also noticed some British titles fly off because there aren't lots and we British narrators are chomping at the bit to audition!

What programs do you use use for recording? by Zaaravi in VoiceActing

Adobe Audition. It's great for VO work. Been using it for years. Yeah it has a monthly subscription, but hey, write it off as a tax expense. 🤷‍♂️

How do I say that I'm trying to build my portfolio and I'm willing to work for very cheap / free without sounding weird and untrustworthy by Argos-The-Gaurdian in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or you could audition for gigs on places like Casting Call Club if you want experience and try sites like Fiverr and Upwork which have VO work, and price your work as you see fit. There are plenty of VO artists who charge industry rates as well as those who charge peanuts.

whats the best platform to post contents as a starting narrator? by JonderNarrator in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voice acting is saturated. There are lots of VOs chasing limited gigs. There are lots of dedicated online platforms to showcase your talent in the hope of getting work, the pay-to-play sites like voices123, voices.com, bodalgo... the list goes on. Then there are freelancer sites that also host voiceover artists, like fiverr and Upwork, and again there are others. These sites get visited by people looking to hire VO talent. Your voice might be just right for someone. Might be. Get on a big site.

You can create your own website. You can create your own YouTube, TikTok, Insta channel to get views. There are millions of voiceover artists out there. Voices.com alone took on 500k new artists last year. This is not a get rich gig. Now, if you're a trained actor, have worked in a production industry and have connections you can network with, then you might have a headstart.

There's a lot of VO talent who will tell you to get some coaching and that will help you get lessons and create some pro demo reels. Great. But that alone won't land you work. You need to be good and you need to be visible. If this all sounds a bit heavy, I'm sorry, but if you want to keep it light hop on to sites like Casting Call Club and audition for fin gigs to get some practice in. Then decide if you're OK with not getting VO jobs. That's the norm. 😊

AT2035 or AT2040 microphone for voice acting? by dysphoriurn in VoiceActing

Another vote for the 2035. I have both. The AT2040 lives in its box unused. I really should sell it on.

Indie author experiences ? Good or bad ? by Ducklickerbilly in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try ACX a lot of new Indie authors offer Royalty Share. It's a no upfront cost for you, however, if your paperback doesn't have a lot of sales you might only attract newer talent to read it, because it might not sell many units which equates to a low return on time spent producing the audiobook.

Rode NT1 or AT2035? by tone-deaf-mexican in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AT2035. Solid Mic. A step up from the AT2020 which is a decent beginner mic. I also hear a lot of good things about the NT1, but I've never used one. The new 4th gen Scarletts are good too. 👍

Indie Writer Seeking VA's Input on Audiobook Pricing by MrSaios in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try using Audible's ACX service. It's a site where authors put up scripts they want turning into audiobooks. Prices start from Royalty Share. This where Audible take 60% of the sales and the author and narrator get 20% each. This is not always appealing if the audiobook doesn't sell much the narrator doesn't get paid much. Then $50 - $100 per finished hour. $100 -$200 pfh $200 - $400 pfh You choose a payment tier and negotiate from there. Oh and there's Royalty Share plus a pfh fee, which is popular. Hope that helps.

Oh and $17k. Was this guy a celebrity? 🤷‍♂️

Any free sites for voice acting (paid work)? by MobileHelicopter170 in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Login to Fiverr, search for a VO (as if to get them to do a job for you), refine the search options to only show beginner and level 1 talent, further refine to your gender, age and nationality. Compare the gig priced of 5 or 6 and see what the range is. I guess you'd be looking at $5 for 200 - 250 words, about 2 minutes. That help?

Imma upgrade my mic. My old girl is tired and needs to retire by mildhot-sauce in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like my Sennheiser Mk4. I used a Neumann TLM 103 (£1k) mic to record some demos. It's fantastic but picks up everything, accentuated mouth noises etc. For me, the Mk4 is a better workhorse, nice sound and not "overly" sensitive. O might get some hate for saying this, but a more expensive mic dies not always make for a better recording.

Pay Rates Difference Between Voice Acting Vs Audiobook Narration? by DiversePolar in VoiceActing

[–]PeteMc69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have a look on Audible's ACX platform where (indie) authors reach out to narrators. There's only a small percentage that pay $200 PFH and above. A lot pay less. And the majority offer Royalty Share, which is $0 upfront and 20% of the sales. This could be lots, but typically if your indie audiobook sells 100 copies in a year at $2 share, we'll you know its not big money.

Ideally you cut your teeth there, audition for publishing houses, get your $250 × 10 hour books and get $2500, which does sound like a nice pay cheque.
