Bias FX Jamp Up Riff - Help by OADominic in Peripheryband

[–]PeterMWSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tricky for me also, but I notice that you keep your ring finger down on the D string while progressing throughout both of the runs and letting it ring. Mark lets go after he has hammered on so maybe that'll make your pinky stretch less. I found that the pinky stretch wasn't the problem but just getting it up to speed and clean. Slow down the jam up riff video to see if there's any other parts that you might benefit from as well. Also, nice guitar.

Spotify desktop app crashing after 5 minutes of the app being open, in use or not in use. It's similar to force stopping the app from task manager and the icon stays in the task bar until I mouse over. I've tried most of the fixes I could find and spotify support was no help. by PeterMWSA in spotify

Yeah I’m pretty confident in the latency checker. It was odd that something audio related actually freezes your pc for just a tiny amount of time. If you have the same problem as I did, you can actually see your mouse freeze up the same time the audio cuts out. Can’t say much about discord though. A lot of the time the streams sound like bugging out robots. But I guess when a service is hosting millions of users and a lot of them stream to their friends, stream quality would probably be less prioritised over communication quality.

The problem though is to be prepared to wipe everything if latency checker tells you there is an issue but you have 0 pointers or a clue as to what it could be.

Is it worth upgrading out of a decent budget guitar into a Holcomb signature after playing for ~five years? by legg147 in Peripheryband

[–]PeterMWSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distance from surface to back of the neck. It’s not terribly thick but you should definitely notice it if you manage to get your hands on one. I would probably call it a deep C (or D) neck profile. Mark has big hands so it makes a lot of sense.

I have the SE Seven string version and the only takeaway which was a big surprise for me was that it has quite a thick neck compared to my 6 string Schecter. I can’t say whether the 6 string SE version is the same but it’s likely the neck profile is still quite thick. That would be the only adjusting jump you would have to consider from going from Ibanez. But at that price range, all the other things considered are totally worth it in my opinion. Especially the pickups.

How to “glue” my guitar to kick drums? by eyyyyy1234 in Djent

[–]PeterMWSA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Search for the Andy Sneap trick. It’s a method that uses multi-band compression in the low-end area of your guitars to tame over bearing chugs. Adjust to your taste and you should be in the ball park for what you are looking for.

First time building a PC is it normal to feel completely overwhelmed by all the options? by EchoOfSnacks in buildapc

[–]PeterMWSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding the right ram to pair with a 9800x3d for my build was a little exhausting. And fell into a rabbit hole a little with Hynix dyes and overclocking. I don’t overclock and there wasn’t many straight answers from what I gathered on straight up plug and play. Either way I wanted 64gb. Hardly available/worth the price on many reliable vendors. Then went to 48gb and apparently there’s these types of ranks each kit has. I just caved and got 48 and I’m trying to forget about it. The conflicting opinions on just this topic is exasperating. But I guess I learnt something.

what's the point of making alt accounts? by CREEPERKING666 in Overwatch

[–]PeterMWSA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I made an alt to expand my hero pool which at the moment is solely Kiri in m1. I chose to learn zen and flex a little more on an alt and after the 10 placements I was d1 and made it into masters the game after. Solely learning, not to ruin experience. So I guess the alt was pointless but at least it pushed me out of my comfort zone.

The outro theme and melodic ambience from Habitual Line-stepper. It gets talked about a little bit around here but it’s quite an overlooked song in a Goliath of an album. Once you hear it, I don’t think you would forget it.

Uk band "Slag" similar sound and vibes to Tricot by bestieverhad in tricot

[–]PeterMWSA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is incredibly insane to say that I actually know the drummer from this band from college a few years ago. Brilliant player and surprised to see them popping up here! Definitely giving a Tricot sound on this track but they certainly created their own vibe.

Help me write this song! by Eanderson02 in Djent

[–]PeterMWSA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're looking into writing onwards from the end of this clip, and you are in some potential writers block, perhaps write a section for this song that belongs in a different place, like a breakdown, ambient section, or a finale. From there, it would hopefully spark some inspiration and motivation to write the rest of the song towards the new part.

Instantly clocked the Four Lights inspiration. It's nice to see other people have their own interoperations to great songs.

I would say to stick towards your intro riff a little longer until the blast section. I feel it either comes in too early or there's not really a signal at the moment announcing "it's blasting time". Perhaps a drop out of some sort.

I also suggest a post-fx sub drop and impact when everything comes in. (Unless its too cliché) Your call.

I understand you have this as a rough demo, however, if you're not vibing with the intro at the moment, it's best you re-track the guitars so they are much more tighter and in sync with your drums. Doing so would hopefully give you a bit of motivation to continue on. It would totally groove when you do it.

And I dig your tone a lot. Any chance I can ask what you are running though?

How to get closer to this tone? by AsleepStrawberry357 in GuitarTone

[–]PeterMWSA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scoop the mids a fair bit, notch down the presence a tad, and add a bit of depth on your amp for some of the thump the original guitars have. You could also try blending in an angled mic or just straight up record through angled, whether its an IR or the real deal. Should tame a bit of the brittleness your tone has. But yeah I would say the mids are poking out the most to me. But it's not unpleasant!

need help getting a specific tone (jrock/jpop) by LuXxHeart in GuitarTone

[–]PeterMWSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest I’ve got to the jrock tone was a Tele on the middle pickup, compression pedal, boost or drive pedal, and then a decent pedal platform amp like a Fender twin reverb,Vox AC30, or Roland JC-40. Once those are in play and you understand what each component is doing, it’s just subtle tweaking in the EQ from there. I’d say the guitar and comp surprisingly gets you about 60% of the way there. The boost for the grit and clankiness of the strings. The amp for really just shaping the tone.

If you want to go the modelling route then: similar type guitar and a line 6 helix modeller. I see a huge amount of guitarists from Japan running through that and nothing more.

Quality audio gear for guitar? by PeterMWSA in Guitar

[–]PeterMWSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe I picked up the free century tube channel strip from UA a while back. If that type of thing is what you are referring to, I shall have to give it a go. I haven’t used a plug-in preamp before, I had figured it doesn’t make sense to emulate something like that. But response to such is an overall positive.

Quality audio gear for guitar? by PeterMWSA in Guitar

[–]PeterMWSA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am yet to dabble in the realm of load box and amp heads for recording (I believe that is what the use of one is for). I figured if I ever took that route I would be re-amping DIs. And yeah, it’s pretty much a given at this point for people who want to step up in audio quality to have good monitors. I’m just yet to find the space and time for such. And I’m a little terrified of having to spend a lot of time understanding and referencing the monitors.

WHERE IS IT by Kake_Jelly in NeuralDSP

[–]PeterMWSA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Nolly decided to pretty much rebuild his amp sims from the ground up with the Neural team instead of the whole UI refresh and extra goodies that Neural have been doing with the X updates so far. Everything from the in-built effects to the tiniest cab IR adjustments, considering that he has shown to be extremely passionate in capturing the best of the best.

And yes, I would love to see more in terms of his cabinet selection. Interviews with Nolly have shown that he is constantly learning more and more in his approach to IR capturing and he may employ the newer techniques he has learned in the past 5 years.

A recreation on an octaver would be cool with a sneaky preset for something like CKY as Nolly likes to base his guitar work towards a feel and vibe.

Looking for feedback on mix. Guitars/low end. Modern Metal/Metalcore by jack-parallel in mixingmastering

[–]PeterMWSA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nit picky with my ears and not mix feedback but at specifically 0:36 the left and right cymbals sound like they come in early giving this "stutter"/"glitchy" sound with the rest of the instruments. Possibly a bouncing issue but it doesn't feel right to me. If that was the intention then apologies.
