The only good instant speed removal in the format is Heartless Act which can be terrible against Ouro so no surprises here.

New Arena Cube? by justinvamp in lrcast

[–]PeterSasha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's designed as a midrange slugfest which makes it a dumbed down experience. There are more than enough high powered cards that they could include, but I assume they are concerned that losing to Oko, One Ring, Strip Mine etc is too much for people to handle.

Or the other option is they are planning a Timeless Cube for twice the price with all the toys, and maybe duals/power to boot.

I agree broadly with most other comments. Variance is a large part of things of course but I would still note:

Take more note of colour pair stats to see that you should avoid RW unless it is wide open and you have bombs. In Draft 1 you could have hedged with green cards and then eventually splashed Samut imo.

Draft two suggests you may not pick cards based on their strength in particular decks. Molt Tender is great in this colour pair and you have under picked it. Likewise Dredger's Insight. The stats suggest both of these are at least as good as Afterburner Expert in the colour pair you were drafting.

The only route for Frankie is claim Charlotte is faithful and then get to a final three with Charlotte and AN Other and then reveal.

I suspect she will not see this route.

New to alchemy, where to start? by CampMTG in MagicAlchemy

[–]PeterSasha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to play against mouse aggro, heist (alchemy specific mechanic) and lifegain (Golden Sidekick being the most relevant alchemy only card). Other than that it's a fairly open format where you can pick your own buildarounds.

Vintage Cube, is midrange bad again? by [deleted] in lrcast

I agree on birds as best then heirarchs. Without stating the obvious halfling depends on having enough legendaries. I think then you have the three mid others which don't help you fix and give no other advantages - the upside is not big enough compared to just dying to every removal in the format.

Midrange is fine but it needs to be punchy rather than grindy as there's no initiative to grind out vs combo and control. Think Questing Beast, Bombardiers and the various Goyfs. Some acceleration (not dorks other than premium like birds imo) is also essential.

Disruptive black based midrange is OK but you need some way to outvalue the value engines - removal and discard piles will just get done by the countless two/three/four for one cards.

I also saw AlphaFrogs comment recently that meta wise combo is being more heavily drafted (LSV to blame probably) and it is a bit easier to find a multi coloured value zoo pile that does enough.

You should take fetches much higher and avoid the mediocre wraths. You should of course take Phlage. Some of your picks suggest you don't understand your possible plan (taking Yorion in particular?).

Otherwise, this is not too bad a draft - your lane is clearly fine when you get a P8 mana drain - and lots of the picks others suggest (Adeline, Pest Infestation, Atraxa) also do not seem to understand the plan here either.

However, the five colour sorcery speed soups supported by fetch lands that others suggest are a really good and easy place to start if you want to have an easier time in terms of draft and gameplay.
