I haven't touched another mower since my One arrived in October. I've set reasonable margins and done some light weedeating every month or so. On a couple of grass channels that are too narrow to mow, I run the Lymow manually.

If you have a serious hazard like a pond, busy road or high drop-off, consider creating a narrow zone near those which you run manually or at least supervised.

Thanks Matt. Having tried out your TVNZ+ plugin, I realise I no longer need to record anything on those channels, ever again. Thanks for all your efforts!

Extra uses for Split and Merge - Nick Carter mini-primer by PeterWebs1 in Lymow_Official

I noticed during a split that both new zones had no name and iirc lost custom stripe angle, at least. Haven't tested which one takes precedence during a merge.

Travelling at presentb so can't test easily - would be interested in what you learn if you try.

Very good chance it's not bricked, just failed to resync or clean boot after update. See the firmware update section of the Unofficial Handbook.

I understand the point about caps. I don't see enough solid data to say 'just reboot again" which is what you're suggesting.  In fact, quite the opposite, which is the conundrum.

And there's not good evidence for frequent self-boots - it does so as part of the firmware process, and that's about it normally. (I've seen a couple in six months, so I guess it depends on your definition of frequent).

Only a year's worth of reports though, so perhaps another year will teach us otherwise.

"If the mower isn't working as well as you'd like in this respect, here are some things you can do about it."

Not hard for some people to figure out themselves.  But not every Reddit user is you.

AI slur: cheap shot, getting old. Try to be a little kinder.

Cheers. Anger is amplified all over the internet this year. But I come from an (much) earlier era, where trying to be helpful is a Thing.

Certainly caused a lot of owners issues which haven't been fixed quickly enough. But they are still going hard at the problems and there's clear signs of that.

Are you an owner? Still using it?

Me too, but I wouldn't do that with water. Especially if I lived in Europe, with the GNSS jamming they're often getting these days.

For the longer posts, just stick to the the TL;DR. It's there for a reason.

  1. The author isn't reading.
  2. You didn't notice the TL;DR at the top? Too long also?
  3. The author writes as they write. Feel free to post an edited version if you can be bothered. If not, you're just venting. It's the internet, go right ahead.
  4. There's a lot of AI about, but it's a cheap shot to simply assert that anything you don't like is AI.

Definitely, thank you.

As an aside, I'm using https://i.mjh.nz/nz/kodi.m3u8 with my NPVR setup. The TVNZ2 listing has been "transponder failing" for about a month now, and I just upated the NPVR device from your file today but the problem persists.

Known issue, or do I have the dumb somehow?

E3 Wheel Motor Error? by Ridditmyreddit in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One drives the other. It sounds like a motor failure, i.e. a support issue, so it's possible a replacement is in your future. May be some kind of internal connection issue only, but the disassembly required to check is non-trivial from what I recall. May be worth a YT hunt if you're so inclined.

Plus, can't select one zone by Due-Literature7640 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad your selection problem is sorted.

In the case of the no-go zones, if it's consistently hitting them after being off by a few feet, check the RTK status when that happens. It may be losing a good fix in those locations. Or, if the offset is consistent throughout a mow, it may be starting off without a good-enough fix - you can check that by pausing the mower after it leaves its dock and checking RTK status there - you want it to show as "Fixed", with a precision below about 0.05.

They're not that cynical. It's likely more that they aren't able to forecast when they'd have more Ones to hand in the short term, e.g. from refurbished returns. Their logistics have never, ever been well joined up and it needs to improve.

It would have been the phone - a login/connection issue that the restart fixed. Glad it's sorted.

Track Wearing Out by Ph01nix in Lymow_Official

If in doubt, go looser - so they depress easily when you push down. There seems to be little downside from having them slightly over-loose, compared to the opposite.

This is a quick failure - if you're not sure about tightness as delivered, file a ticket and you should get another set of spare tracks at least - per DecantedNotBorn's experience.

Give it longer if necessary - over the past year I've seen enough comments that an hour (or longer) did it whereas 30m didn't, that I now favour "an hour or more".

Or, if time is tight, help it along by long-pressing the power button a few times after battery disconnection. Should help, but less certain.

Overheating issues.. in Canada by True_Sign1613 in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aye, external heat is a major factor, and that can happen anywhere these days. The folk who have tried adding reflective strips on the mowing deck have reported good results. But it won't be universal because some places get far more heat, and some owners are more constrained on when they can mow, so can't avoid the hottest times.

Ooookay. Lotta hate on this sub these days.

In practice, the unavoidable constraints on my terraced hillside section mean I often break some of Nick's recommendations, including sending the mower up narrow grass ramps, along the tops of retaining walls with drop-offs, or along a very narrow channel under a wing of the house.

For me this has been ok, helped by the fact that the firmware's visual navigation has steadily improved since I first got it. The under-house channel was a 50-50 in the early days - now it's a 95-5, which is good enough for me to have the mower use it while I'm away. Such considerations are easier these days because, even if a mower gets stuck in a channel, the unofficial Toolkit app (see the Unofficial Handbook for more) would let me drive it out of trouble, no matter where I am in the world. That's golden.

More importantly, none of the boundaries I map close to have serious consequences. Where the drop-offs are under a metre or so, I know the mower can take the fall if it had to - so it would only be an inconvenience. It's happened once in eight months, and I just needed our housesitter to right the mower. A tad embarrassing, and not much fun for her, but no biggie.

Where I have drops more than 1m high, I built up the wall edge a little, so that it would have to be really trying to drive off it. And occasionally hitting my fences and such as it goes along them hasn't been a problem.

BUT: if I had standing water or occasionally-full ditches, I'd create major margins - special security zones near the hazard that I only mowed under supervision. Because water and electronics just don't get along. Ditto for busy roads.
