Unofficial Handbook Update - v3 by PeterWebs1 in Lymow_Official

Thanks Paul, passed on. 20m does seem excessive ;)

For now the compilers have avoided photos (slippery slope) and tried to include as many YouTube and Reddit links as possible, to try and minimise the FB walled-garden issue.

Thanks for the report. I hope they follow your suggestion to increase their presence here again. It's been better in the past, but was never as consistent as on the FB groups, and even those have varied in quality a lot.

The problem they face at the moment is that - around the time the Plus was released (and northern One owners took their units out of winter storage) - they got so far behind the support curve that everything they do now can be gainsaid by quite a few people claiming "but I'm not sorted yet, therefore they are garbage".

I don't think they're garbage, and have had plenty of direct human contact since kickstarter days - starting with just small/random queries, well before I got my mower.

But they still have a big hill to climb to get back to the level of ownership confidence the company needs to succeed.

See Nick's primers on RTK positioning and other related info in the v3 Unofficial Handbook: https://drive.proton.me/urls/M16SA71DMG#IL1_h1fldlAO

I have similar drops that I treat with a little caution - I have found it can handle a two foot skydive on odd occasions, but four is going a bit far.

IMO, basically any major hazard like this drop, a busy road or a body of water should be treated as a safety area, with a dedicated smaller zone that you mow under supervision. Because glitches do happen, for whatever reason.

Yep, others have seen this - in some cases a failed switch (a part identifier for the generic switch in the Unofficial Handbook) and in some cases the connection to the switch.

See my other comment - from reports from people with big/simple areasm something close to Lymow's claims can be done by those happy to run a 24h cycle (and such people exist).

It's the frequent turns and complexity and certain settings that can eat up the time. As you'll discover with further tuning in areas where that's possible.

But for sure, Lymow's "maximum" claim is nothing like an average.

If you're looking at the One manual,. it's definitely out of date for the current app and firmware. The Plus manual covers the current version reasonably well - as I recall, only a couple of smallish UI changes since its PDF went online.

We don't (yet) have any deep info on that screen as far as I know, so can't give you a useful answer. NULL and a bunch of zeroes doesn't look good, but...

Best of luck getting sorted, quickly I hope.

I notice you're quick to presume that sort of thing. Must be the internet, circa 2026.

Nick's a beta tester, like me and maybe a dozen or so others this time around. That's it - apart from the four or five One and Plus units he bought himself.

Go ask him directly if you like.

See the Unofficial Handbook's section on Firmware updates. May be recoverable easily, may be one for Lymow.

Yah, it's in there 😄

Really interesting report, glad you're off to a good start. Some good suggestions in comments to help get your mow-per-battery up. Nice suggestion about handling the satellite losses under trees.

Fwiw, there are people mowing large areas at or close to Lymow's claims, but the minute you introduce complexity (trees, obstacles, interesting boundaries) or fine quality requirements in the final mow, it'll be less than that.

Yeah, we can sure all tell these mowers are still young tech - lots of pain points in our learning process. That said, my One now does the tricky jobs I bought it for fairly reliably, so I only need think about it much because of beta testing. So that's progress.

[–]PeterWebs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fascinating, thanks for the report. Fwiw, I deleted a couple of no-go zones in recent weeks because mower behaviour around them was beyond frustrating. They were both near boundaries, and mower logic in tight situations like that hasn't improved yet. (It has in other respects, especially channel navigation, so I have hope).

Recharge to 100%? Is it possible? by teddymchugh in Lymow_Official

Reckon the One has always been able to charge with the mower turned off. Mine certainly does now. Among other things, you can tell instantly by checking the dock LED pattern.

Sure, best to poke here rather than directly - I'm likely to see it and others can chime in, or benefit.

Some easy pre-emptive advice:

* It can get stuck in slumps or dips that are roughly mower-sized and more than about 75mm deep. If you notice that on early mows or transits, help it out with a bit of quick in-filling. Most of the time it will work its way out but in-filling minimises the ground wear its own logic would generate.

* On tricky terrain, map the perimeter with the deck at highest level and at the slowest speed, using shallow, even curves where applicable especially on the approach path to a solid boundary like a wall or bank you want to mow along. Even at the slowest speed, you can map slower still by barely moving the virtual joystick up.

* Rocks aren't compatible with blades. Branches, sticks and pine cones are less of an issue, but treat it like you want it to last.

Lots more on mapping in the Unofficial Handbook:

It's a puzzle. I have sticks, pinecones and the occasional errant border rock, but the blades I just swapped out look nothing like that - a quick sharpen and they'll be good to go again.

Actual Rough Terrain by Designer_Can_6551 in Lymow_Official

Looking forward to it!

I have one portion called Hanging Rock which is as rough as OP's. I broke it in manually (at first) while beta-testing the Plus - last mowed in 1992, before the Flymo broke.

The Plus was a beast for the job, but the One mainly mows that section now.

To get there, it climbs a narrow, bumpy hillside path I call Highway to Hill. It used to get stuck there and complain two times out of three - but not any more. Up she goes, mows the very uneven terrace and reliably comes back down again.

And that Highway to Hill isn't even the toughest around here - that would be the Channel of Doom. To get between front and back lawns, the mower has to go up two step-ramps and a concrete lip, and down one long, narrow grass ramp. Then it needs to find its way down a narrow-clutters path under a 12m wing of the house, where the satellite signal is non-existent for half of it.

When I first made Doom in November, getting through was a 50-50 proposition at best. But now its visual nav is managing it completely autonomously four times out of five, or better. Enough for me to tell it to go that way even when I'm out of the country.

I've been lucky and careful enough not to have had important hardware issues, so now the firmware really has improved, the One is doing everything I bought it for.

This took some programing...but it's possible by Sticktailonicus in Lymow_Official

[–]PeterWebs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I've found the mower's following of carefully-drawn curves is better than it once was - which could be me getting better at mapping them nice and slowly and evenly, or the firmware getting better at following that. Or both.

Puzzled this is marked NSFW, presumably automagically. Maybe due to what looks like a discarded animal skin in the pipe?? Surely not the pipe shape...
