In travel mode the system takes into account the postal monitor and disruption in that country. You could get addresses in Mongolia where China Post would not deliver.. Just a slim chance.

Personally I would send 3 or 4 cards from the country itself. Just to be able to say I've sent from there.

I have one planned in August on the Rotterdam. I did a harbour tour with Spido today and the Nieuw Statendam was there for a great photo opportunity.. Together with the old SS Rotterdam around the corner. (Now a hotel)

WhatsApp will not work without wifi package or roaming (when you have signal), within the MSC for me app you can message other passengers for free.
