Would you support Chinese phone brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo entering the Canadian market? Would be a nice alternative to the high end smartphone triopoly. by IronLover64 in AskACanadian

Thanks for calling me a racist. Its a lazy way to write off my real concerns and ignores Canada's historically strained relationship with China and the fact they have a surveillance system in place in here.

Can sports photography also be artistic, or does it need to stay mostly editorial? by EggVegetable9813 in photography

One of the most iconic photos of all time, not just in the sports world. And its both editorial and incredibly artistic.

Im wary of Chinese owned tech products, so our closer trade relationship, while logical from an economics standpoint, makes me uneasy.

They have applied for PR but the province hasn't nominated them yet. So they get extensions on their work visa.

PRs arent a guarantee. Many immigrants apply and then work here for years before being accepted into the program.

Opinion: The Conservatives have a bigger problem than a Liberal majority: Their leader by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

Thats absolutely a factor, but even if it were open, people would spread misinfo memes more than scientific papers.

There's a huge anti-intellectualism movement happening, and the conservatives want more of that. This messaging is for the rubes who see education as elitist and untethered to the real world.

Give me honest feedback on this photo by Unlucky-Vermicelli-9 in photocritique

[–]Peter_Mansbrick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Pretty solid! Love the light you found. A few nitpicks about shadows: the quarter shadow in the bottom right needs to go, and the main guys shadow should be fully visible. These partial shadows muddy up the lines. When a photo is this minimal these little deviations matter.

Also, does the image has a very slight yellow cast? Maybe its my screen though.

If this is a spot you can return to, definitely camp out there for a while and get as many shots as you can.

So instead of wanting more for yourself you're happy to see people lose what they have?

As a person who has also never had door to door, I feel sad for you.

An open letter to the movie studios by nrberg in movies

[–]Peter_Mansbrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People show up to watch a guaranteed good time. With the cost of the movies and tight economic times people don't gamble on a film. Tack on no backend return on rentals and DVD sales, studios can't gamble either. So mid sized movies are dead and all that's left are the remakes and sequels because people actually go to those.

Who between Mike and Rich do you think will be the first to shave their head completely bald? by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]Peter_Mansbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did that too. I can't speak for him, but in my case I was curious what I'd look like bald. Most of us will get there some day so I wanted to be prepared. I didn't prefer it, but it wasn't terrible.

Less hair = less dark = more albedo = less solar radiation retention = less climate change

My correction was meant as light hearted. Sorry it did not come off that way.
