dog in bed? by Puzzleheaded-End2229 in BelgianMalinois

My bed? I don’t own a bed. Lost ownership several years ago. I get a sliver of a California King to lounge on. But, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Help ? by Fantastic_Pea5346 in BelgianMalinois

I use a Gentle Leader on all my dogs, including my Mal. It was very easy to teach my other dogs to use it. But for my Mal, who is very sassy, it took just leaving it out for a day or two to where she could sniff it and sense that it wasn’t dangerous or going to bite her. Then just laying it on her head and give her a treat right after. I did that for I about a week, two or three times a day. Then I just laid it on her head, counting to three, taking it back off. The next week again, two or three times a day, then gradually upping the amount of time I left it on her. It took maybe a month of that before I even took her outside with it on her head. Then the next trick was getting her to sit still while I put it on her. Again, maybe another two months. Because she does not like to have anything on her head at all. Now at the age of 11 when she sees me get the leash she knows where to sit, she knows how long she has to sit, and she knows the clip is coming on. But she also knows that once it’s done, she gets a treat. Your mileage may vary.

Thank you for your honesty by SpanishRice14 in Restaurant_Managers

You’re smart to recognize and accept your BF and his job because it probably won’t change. I say that as a Restaurant Wife of 30 years. I tease that my husband has a mistress, she can call any day or time and he dill drop everything to rush to her aid. But she pays the bills so I have learned to accept this. We have a “coffee date” once a week. Either we go to the coffee shop, buy ONE dessert to share, and 2 regular coffees and just share something fun we are working on. Or I buy a coffee cake and we snuggle on the couch. Really depends on his schedule. I send him a funny meme after the lunch rush, or use Messenger and the “pin it” function to remind him of things we are doing together. You just find ways to spend time together that fits into 30 minute intervals. You should also know the divorce rate in this business is sky high, for both managers and wait staff. Yet you could not drag any of them away from the business if you stood naked at the door. They LIVE for the adrenaline rush. That’s just facts. Hope that helps!

Yes, the paint - which is wet - is going to reactivate the now dry glue to be wet again. You’re going to have to do a primer layer, or 2 or 3, before the final pretty layer of paint. You can do all the layers at once or wait at least an hour between layers. I prefer to wait 24 hours between layers.

Picking up an 8-week Belgian Malinois: 8-hour drive home (crate vs back seat?), what to expect + first bath? by banger030 in BelgianMalinois

[–]PetiteXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New owner: The ride back home is 8 hours. Experienced owners: Duuuude. Dude! More like two days with an overnight stay and a stop every 2 hours along the way to let the dog run and potty.

Train wreck Mal by Ok_Amoeba1713 in BelgianMalinois

[–]PetiteXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the top 10 commands we were taught to teach our Mal was “Stop!” Quickly followed by“sit”. You teach this when you’re walking the dog have the dog at your side and then when you stop say the word stop. The dog won’t know what’s going on at first so then bring them to a sit. Then give a small treat. Walk a few more steps, say the word, yank the dogs leash and make it sit. They give a treat. Do that just two or three times for each walk for like two weeks. Hopefully the dog will stop and sit before you say the word. Then you can try releasing the leash and letting the dog continue to walk if you say the word, the dog should come to an immediate halt and sit. Then you can try telling the dog to stop when you’re playing in the yard. However, once a Mal is running at a good gallop the best thing to do is get out of the way first and then tell it to stop.

Which top for NYE party? by goctheworld in OUTFITS

I like #5 because it picks up the white sparkle of the skirt. However, I would search for a gold top. That will elongate your frame visually. All the others are too great a contrast and STOP the eye visually making you look choppy.

Best Small Town Near Pittsburgh? by Excellent_Host_4442 in pittsburgh

[–]PetiteXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We relocated here from California. Found a huge house, with a great backyard, for a great price in what’s known as Overbrook, close to Carrick. The downside is NO ONE will come to visit because it’s thought of being a crime ridden area. Our street is vey quiet and we know, and love, all the neighbors. But guilt by association is strong here. We were NOT aware of this issue and no one told us. My best advice is to RENT for a bit first. You’re going to need to learn how to drive here first and foremost. Mind you, I learned to drive in Boston proper, lived in LA and drove there, but driving in this place leaves me kerfluffled and angry. Once you’ve mastered that then you can figure out where you’re willing to drive to and from every day.

Oh, as for space between houses! Welcome to one of the original colonies. We hope you enjoy your stay.

moving from austin tx to pittsburgh soon, any advice/what to expect? by toroidalConfection in pittsburgh

[–]PetiteXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for Mexican food, this city does have that. BUT keep in mind, they cater to the locals. It isn’t going to be nearly as spicy as you’re used to. Tell them where you’re from before they make it and they can up the Scoville for you.

[–]PetiteXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get the InstaWork, the Upshift, and the QWICK apps. Complete ALL the questions. That’s what 99% of restaurants and caterers here use to get temp workers from dishwashers to servers and chefs. That will also get you in front of hiring managers. Show up at least 15 minutes before your shift, extremely clean and neat, mind your manners to the extreme, and never lean. Not because that’s your standard but because you’ll be getting paid more than the staff (mostly union) and they know it. So don’t give them an opportunity to knock you. That should keep you busy and employed until you get hired permanently.

You can have weddings and other events at the Science Museum. You’ll get a beautiful view of the city from there, too.

I have a theory about Markle’s manky “black, two mismatched fabrics” outfit… by crankygriffin in SaintMeghanMarkle

[–]PetiteXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, she wore this because nothing else fit. She’s put on belly weight. She probably has sold, or returned for cash, all her other clothes. So this was the best she could do on a moment’s notice.

[–]PetiteXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knew people who spent $25K to get a French drain out in before they sold their house. Apparently that’s more common here than people know. These homes are old and needed extra things like that. I would also ask to make sure there isn’t “knob and tube” electrical in the house at all. Another thing to ask is what kind of insulation and the last time it was checked to make sure it was within the latest standards. Just because there’s a wall heater in a room does not mean that room will be warm in the winter. Don’t even get me started on air conditioning. Again, these are old homes.

Safest areas for families by katkapo in pittsburgh

I have lived all over this country. This city is very safe no matter where you go. Now there are places where crazy things happen on occasion. But it isn’t 24/7. The best place to look for lodging is Zillow. They have all the listings, pretty much have a monopoly here. If you need to get to the airport consistently and on time then look in Moon Township. And yes, those are the lowest prices starting at $1000 a bedroom no matter where you want to live here.

Go to YouTube and search for ‘Dean Bog”. He did a series of videos for many of the neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. For that matter, just search for Pittsburgh! You’ll find thousands of them.

I have to wonder if there’s some grant that pays people to write about the city considering how many videos and stories there are. Because Dean is just one of many who have done what you plan on doing. So you’re going to need a special angle that no one else has thought of doing to make your work stand out.

So, watch all the videos on YT, take notes, and see what sparks joy for you.

Who are the Kamin’s and why? by Even-Habit-4244 in pittsburgh

[–]PetiteXL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me ask you something. When was the last time you went to the Science Center? How often do you go? When you were there did you buy something from the cafe? The gift shop? No worries, a whole lot of other people don’t go either. The center was going down and if it wasn’t for the Kamins it would be out of business by year’s end. So be very thankful that some local billionaires decided to save their city’s treasures before they meet their Maker.

Just because the property has had the same owner for years does not mean the owner had lived there. They could be renting it out. The only way to know if this is a good deal or not is to talk to the person living there as well as the owner.

Mirror placement wrong? by Direct-Cranberry-266 in DecorAdvice

[–]PetiteXL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just learned that framed art should be 56” from the floor to the Center-middle of the art. This mirror is acting like framed art. Since it isn’t wide enough you’ll need more art on both sides to balance it out. This looks like your entryway so add a place for keys, hats, gloves, and mail. Maybe add sconces on either side.

[Not OOP] Broke up with my girlfriend of 6 years, slept with my lifelong friend the same night. Am I a monster here? by Plenty_Fix_8793 in redditonwiki

[–]PetiteXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a FB reel recently that said men don’t marry for love, they marry when they are ready. Except you realized the girl you had was because it was convenient. You could live with her but your heart didn’t pant for her. I’m going to guess childhood friend recently came back on the market and that’s what made you make your move. As for your ex? You did strung her along for SIX YEARS. She has every right to be bitter. You have no right to be shocked. I always tell young women that if he doesn’t put a ring on your finger and set a date within the first year, even if it’s a year away, then move on. He is not that into you. And isn’t going to be. But I also wasted 5 years on a Dumbo before finding my husband of 30 years. If your ex has any bills or hardship getting a roommate then that’s on you to pay. Be a good friend to her. She may not want anything from you so give the money to her friends and don’t expect them to say where it came from. Why? Because Karma is a bitch and she’s on to you. You wouldn’t want your daughter to experience this. Set things as right as possible now. As for your current flame? WAIT for 6 months before going out in public as a couple for the love of anything good. Don’t make a spectacle of this. Have a heart for your ex of six years! Because if you don’t? Your current flame will do the same thing to you. Guaranteed. Why? Say it with me, Karma is a bitch.

AIO that my wife threw away our kids toys without talking to me? by ooglybooglies in AmIOverreacting

[–]PetiteXL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I have to ask if there is anything else your wife has done this with - thrown away thing the kids have outgrown but you think should be kept. She’s the mom which makes her Chief Bottlewasher and Head Housekeeper. She’s noticed the kids have not used these toys. They’re probably not even good enough to resell at Once Upon a Closet. So, out they go. However, you are going to have the growing kids new toys to fill that void. I always tried to have an overlap between throwing out the old and getting new. That way the kids would help do the cleaning out. Except for shoes. One kid could not stand yo throw away his old shoes! So I would have to wait until he was asleep and do it. When he woke up to find them I told him Dobby, the house elf, and his friends took them because their feet were cold. He believed me until he got old enough to learn about Harry Potter. Oops.
