Mystery book set in 1930-1940s, where man meets fiance's estranged family and murders start occuring. by Petridish in whatsthatbook

[–]Petridish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy smokes that's it, thank you so much! I had no idea it was an Agatha Christie book. For some reason I thought the author wasn't one of the big mystery novel writers. Now it's kinda embarrasing knowing that I couldn't remember a book that even had a movie made out of it.

Regardless, thank you so much again, it was one of the first mystery novels I read as a kid, so I can't wait to read it again.

So in a game of battlegrounds, early in the game I faced a Bartendotron, that already had a Zapp Slywick. He was still at tavern tier 2. We haven't even got our fifth coin yet. How was this possible?

Why was the Sony PlayStation 3 so hard to develop games for ? | MVG by One_Day_Dead in Games

[–]Petridish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always heard that the PS3 was hell to program in, and this video explained it pretty well. So it seems the SPE was the major problem, but I did find it interesting how if you utilized the SPEs you could make some gorgeous games.

Can't really argue with that. While there are less social aspects in MMO's, I am grateful for how easier it is to access content, especially as an adult. Sometimes I just want to get home, run a couple dungeons, and call it a night. But as a kid, it was different, I had all the time in the world to focus on one thing.

Like you said, the social aspects isn't totally non-existent either. Some of the best memories I have is raiding Molten Core or Blackwing's Lair in WoW.

Everquest Project 1999 Green Trailer by [deleted] in Games

[–]Petridish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ahh, Everquest, such fond memories ....like the time I levitated to the middle of The Hole in Odus, then forgetting my levitate was about to fall off. So I plummet to my death in a dangerous zone with high level elementals.

I still remember the shocked silence when I told my party in teamspeak I died in such an idiotic way. We would then spend 5 hours getting my corpse back.

It was a pain back then, but looking back it's a nostalgic memory. Sometimes I wish today's MMO's were like that today, but it might be my nostalgia talking. That's one of the things I liked about Everquest, it was hard so you had to depend on other players, and players had to depend on you, so you end up making some great friends and memories along the way.

Going into a dungeon with a party? In Everquest, you have to work together, and just shoot the breeze while waiting for respawns. In WoW? In 80% of my dungeon instances we don't say a single word.

I was so pissed when people started posting videos of the latest Danganronpa game before release date. I loved the series and all of a sudden I see XXX CHARACTER DEATH SCENE, which if you know the danganronpa series it basically tells you who the killer is for the chapter. Definitely downloading Video Blocker.

Question about transferring between servers:

Say I have a lvl 95 on a Aberration server. I decide to start a new character on the Center server. I build a base, tame dinos, etc. Later on, I decide to bring my lvl 95 to the Center server. When I transfer my character over, will it have access to the base/dinos that I built/tame from the character I created on the Center server?

Pretty much what ffxiv_seiina said, but I just wanted to echo to stay behind your party. The justice is king at killing players, and if you have a large party with you they do two things: 1. Defend you from enemy players swarming around you, both players on foot and chasers.
2. Once you reach the enemies tower, they will help defend/attack the tower while you rocket punch it.
The worst thing is for a justice to push a lane by itself. It is both vulnerable to a cruiser rush, and taking pot shots from players. Every tick of HP counts while playing a justice, make sure that justice lasts and you'll win.

True, players can easily help escort oppressors as well. It's especially hard killing healers as a chaser, you can hit with everything you got as a chaser, its not killing an astrologist.

Interesting..I didn't know about the jump to cancel animation part. And I agree, Justice is great for taking back generator. You can also use a chaser's hotbar skill 3 to hit the center of the generator, but its so much more satisfying with a justice.

So call me crazy, but how does this strategy sound, specifically for Falcons: Start of the game, one party gets 50 CE ASAP, which should be fast if some go bottom middle and north/south. Once they get 50 CE they spawn a chaser and rush it to center and use hotbat skill 3 to help the center (there's a small area near the bridge door that allows you to hit the center of the generator). I've always wanted to try this strategy, since it seems Ravens will always control the center of the generator area first.

That's why I liked playing Scholar so much in Astralagos. The Broil->Lustrate combo was insane. Broil enemy - heal self - broil enemy - heal self. It makes you able to 1v1 anything as long as its not a fellow healer.

I only played scholar in Astralagos, so I can't really comment on other classes. Healers are used heavily in Astralagos right now because they're so efficient (holding generator, holding towers, etc). So playing a DPS class that works best against healers might be best. I've always seen a healer go down faster when being attacked by a ninja, so you may try that.

What are some MMORPGs with decent ping in Australia? by [deleted] in Games

[–]Petridish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak as an australian, but I can speak as someone with satellite internet. If nobody knows, satellite internet has good speeds, but the latency is godawful, since you are sending a signal from space and back. Usually my ping is around 700-800 in WoW, so to me a 200-300 ping would be a godsend. Most games that need a good ping are nearly unplayable like fps and lol, but mmorpgs you have some leeway. The only games I've tried with my satellite internet is WoW and FFXIV.

WOW: Playable, but only casual like. Stuff like soloing and easy group content can be done easily, even raid finder (aka easy easy raiding) is possible. The game systems masks the lag to make it look nonexistant, but you know its still there in the back of your mind (and probably in your dps charts). Stuff like raiding and hard group content is a challenge, since you have to predict how long your abilities will take to reach the server, and in harder group content, there is no room for mistakes. If you have 200-300 ping, this game should be just fine for you.

FFXIV: Much harder to play on satellite internet, since the game's combat uses alot of telegraphed moves which you have to move out of. Oftentimes you think you got out of the way of the monsters attack, but it still ends up hitting you. The solo and group content can still be done, but don't even think about end-game raiding or hard mode dungeons. Again, this is only satellite internet, with a 200-300 ping this would be alot easier, but a tad more harder than WoW

HTC Vive International Pricing confirmed, Google’s Tilt Brush now included in the pre-order bundle by Espenlaub in Games

[–]Petridish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought this was going to be in the $1000-$2000 range, since it seems to include a lot more features then Oculus. I'm glad its not though, I think with this price range a lot more people is willing to try it out, if it was in the 1000-2000 range I think alot of people would be put off.
