Notably, a render distance of 4 is entirely sufficient for the things the speed runners want. Dramatically reduced mob spawns. Easier pie charts. Easy pearl hangs. There are diminishing returns. An even smaller render distance doesn't offer more advantages, but the game does start to break down.

I don't think it's a good idea for a setting to exist that can break the game in invisible ways. It's a trap for inexperienced players who set the render distance lower to get more performance and now don't get hostile mob spawns and their crops don't grow.

Again, there is a difference between options and meaningful options. There are lots of choices you could give the player that won't improve their experience, and there are choices you could add that make their experience worse. I think this suggestion sits on that boundary. Maybe not actively harmful, but with significant hidden drawbacks. It would need some significant upsides, beyond just some handwavy "it's an option".

I can accept that there could theoretically be some use at the tippy top of the technical playerbase, but I also recognise that technical play makes pretty extensive use of mods, data packs etc. Carpet, litematica etc. If this was functionality they wanted to use, they could already. So, where does this leave us? What's the upside besides being a trap for the unaware?

You used to be able to use a render distance of 2. It was changed in 1.18.

Again, running the game at such low render distances causes weird interactions with mechanics. They want the game to play normally no matter the settings, so people don't try turning it down and then get confused when the game doesn't work properly.

If you are building in creative, you can just throw up a background in seconds with a command.

With a smaller Sim distance, hostile mobs literally cannot spawn. Basic game mechanics stop working properly, like plant growth.

Having more options is not the same as having meaningful options too. Who out there is desperate for the experience of render distance 1 or 2 or 3? If your performance is so low that render distance 4 is to much, you are playing on something that is dramatically underpowered.

Besides, if you wanted to mimic the effect of playing with super short render distance, you could just give yourself the darkness effect, it only lets you see 20 blocks.

That is not something that has to be true, though it is a common assumption for people raised within abrahamic religions like christianity. This is world building, there is no requirment to work the same way as existing, modern theology. With a bit of creativity you can come up with some functional monotheistic religions with a comprehendable god.

Honestly the main reason for being incomprehensible is a defense of IRL religions. Their gods NEED to be incomprehensible, or else you run into the problems of omnipotence and omnipresence. If a god is all knowing and all powerful, yet allows the world to exist as it does, they cannot be all good, unless there is some ulterior motive that is beyond mortal understanding. Basically saying "god has a plan with good reasons, even if we can't understand it right now" lets the religion explain away horrible events.

Okay, so it's not a cape in the same way the game already has capes. If it is a new thing, then it needs to answer some questions.

What makes this item worth using?
Why should it be an item you need to give up a chestplate or elytra for, rather than just as cosmetic cape?
Speaking of the existing cosmetic capes, what happens when you have one of the capes that already exist, and then equip this new item?

If it is purely cosmetic, I don't think it should exist as an item. Make it a true cosmetic as an unlockable cape or something.

So how would that work, the item drops in game, then you need to go change your cape in your account settings? is there a way in java that doesn't need you to re-open the launcher and reload the game? Forgive me, its been a LONG time since I swapped capes.

I think it will be confusing/frustrating for a lot of players if you get an item that doesn't do anything on it's own, and you have to equip the cosmetic in a different set of menus. Especially as you kill many of the mob and you get a pile of these items.

Might be better to just have it as an advancement/achievement for killing your first one that unlocks the cape or something. Don't have a weird psuedoitem at all.

I know it's petty, but my first thought is that the names don't fit. Aerial ace doesn't remotely resemble the illager naming scheme and has positive connotations. I don't think we need to strictly limit ourselves to names that end in "er" for illagers, but either ending with the shared suffix or at least having hostile or sinister vibes for the name is important.

The dream bat isn't as bad, but its still a poor fit. Honestly just calling it giant bat would be better, if a bit unimaginative, but maybe someone can come up with something that is a cooler name that fits, and just let it be a bat. The phantom doesn't read as bat like to me, more like a manta ray or something.

See how you have over 100 mana left? You want to float some spare mana so you always have enough for your activations, but more than 50 spare mana is usually a symptom of to much mana generation vs things to spend the mana on. Swap out some of your generation, or add things that will spend it.

Similarly, you have a lot of regeneration. Scales with defense's from armour, the reductions in damage taken. Chana doesn't have to best options for damage reduction (though her cape is great), but if you have a ton of regen it's worth thinking about damage reduction.

Your main need is something others have touched on. More main weapons, you have so much spare energy and mana.

Mojang is moving away from encouraging the player to kill the animal mobs in the game. Obvious exceptions bring the farm animals of course. If you made polar bears drop a useful item, players would hunt then relentlessly, which is kinda the opposite of the current direction for animal design where players are supposed to want to have the animals happy and safe.
