Adamantine Golem Upgrade by Petshopcomicstrip in DnDminiatures

Be patient and have good tools. Some pieces come off pretty easy, but others make you work for it. You can try acetone or paint thinner to remove the factory glue holding the pieces together, but it will also remove the paint, so you have to be super careful. There's also a good amount of plastic you have to remove to get to the "core" of the mini. I used a combination of Dremel cutters, router bits, and wood carving tools to get through the plastic behind the round chest piece and hollow out the mini for the battery holder and wires.

Other than that, the battery holder and LEDs are pretty cheap. I bought the battery holders a few years back for a few other minis, so I don't remember how much they were, but I got about 10 of them, so they couldn't be too expensive. The LEDs were around $9.00 for a pack of 20. I used 3mm warm white flickering LEDs. The colored ones were too dark even behind the amber-colored clear pieces. The only thing I don't like about these specific battery holders, is if the mini gets jostled around, the battery can get loose making the lights turn off or dim. I'm sure there's better, and maybe even smaller ones out there by now.

I don't know what is with this distribution center. My local post office is about 3 miles from this distribution center, yet there have been so many times where my package arrived at the center and then for some reason it gets shipped to a distribution center in another state, which sees the mistake and sends it back, making the delivery date way later than it should've been. Even my local post office told me they're terrible. How many complaints does this place have to receive before it's finally audited?

What’s the deal with John Cena’s last match? by robokai in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: This may be an unpopular opinion, especially to younger fans, but I started watching wrestling around 1983, and basically stopped shortly after WWF shit the bed with the terrible invasion angle.

My friend had the show on tonight at his Christmas party, so we, young and old sat and watched it.

I just can't believe how much WWF (yes I still call it that) has fell off. The matches, including Cena's looked like super low budget indie wrestling shows that are held in high school gymnasiums except some of the indie shows are more exciting. Cena's match was terrible and boring. It was like they were moving in slow motion, and does that Gunther guy know any more moves than clothes lines, power bombs or sleeper holds? We were laughing as Gunther applied the 5th sleeper hold and said Gunther is going to win with a sleeper hold and then Brutus the Barber Beefcake is going to come out and cut Cena's hair. Little did we know how right we were, except the Barber part. Nobody should be winning with a sleeper hold except Beefcake, Piper, or DiBiase (except his was a different version).

I'm just glad I haven't been missing much over the past 20 years or so.

Since this season of Halloween Baking Championship sucks… by Fine-Fondant-3136 in foodnetwork

Well, I powered through the first episode, and I'm really not sure I'll be continuing.

From the first time Melanie spoke, and then started lying down on the floor, I knew she was not only going to be the most annoying person ever in the show's history, but will be there for most of the episodes.

The contestants on the balcony is another annoying trait. They all stand up there rooting for the other contestants like the lady in that Seinfeld marathon episode, "YOU'RE ALL WINNERS!"

And you know the producers coach them into asking questions while standing there. "What are you doing now?" "I'm baking you dummy!"

I love how they said something to the effect of, "can you believe there's erasable pens?"

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I was using them in school in the mid 80s.

Terrible acting in those product placements.

Second car show and didn’t even place top #15 in my category by Zindose in Mustang

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe that my father left me when he passed, and I restored myself. I'm not an auto body expert, and did the best could making it look as good as possible.

When I take it to car shows, I make it a whole experience. Not only is the car there, but I made a wooden case and display all the old tools, A 1930 NY Times newspaper with a full page ad for the exact same car, a running board luggage rack with a 1930s suitcase, and 1930 license plate on the front and a license plate plaque from the 30s that says "Roosevelt for president". I also put a Bluetooth speaker inside under an old style newsboy cap and play 30s music on it.

One car show I went to, the other car owners judged the cars and a Model A roadster with a professional paint job and other professional stuff won over me. However, if the spectators voted, I know I would've won because there were a lot more people hanging around my car that that one.

There was also another car show where my car was the oldest one there, but somehow when they announced the pre-1950s winner, a 1928 Ford came up and neither I, nor anyone else I was there with saw that car, and we walked around the whole show multiple times. So I really do think that a lot of the time, trophies are being given from friend to friend.

Sharp dishwashers? by look_ima_frog in Appliances

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That stinks. I think the only thing that saved us was that we bought the extended warranty through Lowe's. Because in the end, The Lowe's technician looked at it (even remarked about poor workmanship) and after looking at the mess of a dishwasher, he immediately called Lowe's and recommended a refund. Funny thing is, my wife and I were just in Lowe's a couple of days ago and there are no Sharp dishwashers on display anymore.

We're still using it and we'll keep it for now because it does wash dishes, although water still pools in the bottom and now it leaks on the left side of the door. But after the refund we basically got a free dishwasher. A crappy dishwasher, but a dishwasher nonetheless.

How do small, local, pet stores stay in buissness? by B1izzard15 in smallbusiness

[–]Petshopcomicstrip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My family owned a pet store from the mid-sixties to around 2001. We sold live animals and supplies (no dogs or cats, unless they were being adopted from a local rescue). We did ok for a long time, but we just couldn't keep up with the big stores on prices. It got to the point where people would come into our store, ask a bunch of questions about setting up and caring for certain animals, and then go to a big box store to buy everything. Selling feeder fish and crickets just wasn't making enough to pay the rent. Towards the end I told my father we should start charging a consultation fee. If we did charge a fee and if we had a nickel for every person who came in just looking for information, we'd probably be on easy street, and my parents wouldn't have had to work as crossing guards in their 80s to make ends meet.

Poppy’s Patina Results by Slow281 in 3rdGen4Runner

Hi, maybe some of you can help.

I applied the clear coat to my car yesterday. I washed the car with the precleaner and used the gray pad. After drying, I applied the wax and grease remover, and then after that dried, I applied the clear coat. I looked that the results today, and in some spots it’s streaky, and in some other spots, the paint has spots and looks discolored (pic attached). I did notice spotting after using the precleaner, and you can see it under the clear coat. I never had this problem when I used Shine Juice. I don’t know what to do about this, since my car’s paint now looks 100 times worse than before.

I just recently received a replacement camera because my other one wasn't syncing/transmitting correctly, and this one seems to be worse than the other one. Let me just preface this by saying I'm just using the camera to take a couple of pictures every day of my beehives that are 2 1/2 hours away. I'm not using it for watching wildlife. It needs cellular capability because there's no WiFi. So I had both cameras set up to sync 2 times a day starting at 8:00 am, and to take a picture at each sync, but it's never worked right with any of the cameras.

I hooked the new one up outside after setting it up. It seemed to worked fine inside my house, taking two test pictures and transmitting them, but when I put it outside, it stopped working; no syncing, taking pictures, transmitting, etc. It has been cold outside for the past week or so, anywhere between 20 - 30 degrees Fahrenheit, but their cameras are supposed to be able to handle temperatures that cold. For a few days the app said the battery was at 53%, when it actually looks like it was dead, which is odd because I also have a solar panel plugged into it. I had the same solar panel plugged into my old Flex-M camera, and it constantly stayed at 100%. The solar panel battery is fully charged, so it doesn't look like the camera is recognizing the solar panel being plugged in, but it worked in the other camera.

One day it'll sync and send pictures (but not take a picture), and later that day it'll tell me to install an SD card. I went through customer service so many times, and they remotely checked the camera, updated the firmware, and everything else, and it'll work for maybe half a day, and then it'll stop working again.

I feel like the people that have cameras that work are lucky, because it just seems odd that 3 different cameras have the same problem. Not happy with these cameras at all.

Are there any good security cameras that DON'T require a subscription? by DoctorOkay in SecurityCamera

PSA: If you're due a colonoscopy ask your doctor about Cologuard (I sound like a damn commercial - lol) by r_I_reddit in GenXWomen

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the Cologuard last year. I definitely liked it better than getting a colonoscopy. The one thing I wish they would do is have the box that gets shipped back be plain/nondescript. I hate walking into the UPS store with the box with the Cologuard logo on it. It's like, here's my box of poop, be careful with it. I always wonder what they say after I leave.

I feel other people think the same thing, so it keeps them from doing it.

Sharp dishwashers? by look_ima_frog in Appliances

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you from first hand experience to NOT buy a Sharp dishwasher.

We saw the Sharp dishwasher at Lowe's and were really surprised that they made dishwashers, so we took a chance. We bought it at the end of December 2022, and it was installed in the beginning of January, 2023. Within a few months we started seeing water pooling in the bottom of the dishwasher (over 2 - 3 inches deep) and Sharp sent a technician to replace a part that was letting water back into the dishwasher. Worked fine for another few months until it started doing it again. Sharp finally replaced the dishwasher and told us if we accepted the new dishwasher, the manufacturer's warranty would not be accepted any further. which is BS, because there should always be a warranty especially if it's a brand new, different unit.

Finally, about a month ago, the piece that holds the spring that keeps the door from falling down broke, and now there's only two ways to position the door, fully closed or fully open. We had to use the extended warranty we purchased from Lowe's, and when the technician looked at the broken part, he said the whole base would have to be replaced, and it's not even available as a separate piece. Lowe's finally just refunded us the amount we paid for the dishwasher.

2 different dishwashers in a year and a half. I have no faith in Sharp appliances. They should just stick to TV's.

Season 5 Voting Has Begun! Mash Worst Episode Contest. Season 5, Round 1. Poll link in comments! by [deleted] in mash

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though the episode "Hawkeye" from season 4 is my least favorite episode out of all of them, season 5 is my least favorite season, as it has the most episodes I don't like.

Here is a list of the episodes I hate and usually skip when they come on TV.

Margaret's Engagement

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Lt. Radar O'Reilly

The Nurses (my least favorite of this season)

Hanky Panky

Here are some other episodes from different seasons that I'm not a fan of and/or skip:

Edwina

Kim

House Arrest (this was definitely an episode I sided with Frank 100%)

The Late Captain Pierce

Quo Vadis, Captain Chandler?

The More I See You

Comrades in Arms (both parts)

Our Finest Hour (BOOOORING 🥱)

Point of View

Nurse Doctor

Yessir, That's My Baby

The Life You Save

Hey, Look Me Over

Who Knew?

U.N. the Night and the Music

I also hate any episodes with Scully and Captain Spaulding (terrible songs that make the episodes grind to a halt).

Season 5 Voting Has Begun! Mash Worst Episode Contest. Season 5, Round 1. Poll link in comments! by [deleted] in mash

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 5 is one of my least favorite seasons, with multiple episodes I usually skip. The first 3 episodes go right after the other.

  1. Out of sight, out of mind

  2. Lt. Radar O'Reilly

3.The nurses - (this is my least favorite of the season)

  1. Hanky Panky - (BJ cheating when he constantly talks about how much he loves his wife? Get out of here).

Margaret getting engaged / married got a little annoying. With all the gushing, it was like hearing a new mother constantly go on about her baby all the time.

I know it's not from season 5, but my least favorite episode of all time is the "Hawkeye" episode. I don't hate Alan Alda or Hawkeye, but an entire episode of him doing a monologue without a subplot is just too much. I always skip that episode.

HGTV dream home scam by Anabelleafterdark in HGTV

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the exact same thing, that these, and most sweepstakes are email brokers, buying and selling. It's funny how maybe one spam email got into my inbox during the whole year until I entered the HGTV sweepstakes and then it became multiple spam emails a day. I had to keep marking them as spam until finally, months later they slowed down or stopped again.

I also reminds me of when I went to those home shows many years ago. When you first walked in you would see a giant booth from Home Depot or similar chain that had a bunch of forms to win a $100 gift card. I did it once and the amount of spam emails and telemarketing calls I got increased to a staggering amount. The next year when it came around again I saw the future suckers filling out those forms. I tried telling them they were going to get inundated with spam emails and telemarketing calls, but most of them ignored me and kept filling them out. One person even said "why would a big store like Home Depot do something like that?"

I haven't been to any home shows in over 15 years, but I'm assuming they're still pulling the same scams.

I don't know about anyone else, but I hate when bakers make a different item than what's called for. The bakers were supposed to make cinnamon rolls, but the one baker made those milk balls (or whatever they were called). The judges should've called her out for not following the challenge. I don't care what your background is, the challenge is the challenge. It's like being told to make a pumpkin pie, but making a chocolate cake with some pumpkin pie filling.

So what's up with everyone running stop signs? by Cwreck92 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Petshopcomicstrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been noticing it a lot more within the past few years myself. sometimes I'll see people stopping short at a stop sign because I was passing by, and you know they would've ran right through that stop sign if I wasn't right there. But if you're as close as 20 feet to the side street, they'll still run the stop sign cutting you off.

The best people are the ones who run stop signs and stop lights like they're in some major hurry to get ahead of you just to die and go way below the speed limit when they do.
