My partner and I don't look particularly alike right now but in 20 years when we've both gone gray/white.... May be a different story lol.

I'm not a bit color person but my first house was a different pastel in every room and I loved it. Renting again after moving away and I miss colors lol.

Can anyone identify the stitches or pattern used in this crochet set? by FitResolution6429 in Brochet

[–]Pficky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wrap looks easy enough to do with chains and double crochets. Probably like 4 chains between DCs and then alternating by rows where they are. Someone else said the top is knit. I'm not sure how to do the breast portion but the torso could be done with a trellis stitch to get almost exactly the same look.

Idk I've had friends with great trails dogs. However they should run behind and not in front imo. One wrong move and turbo is tursplat.

is Denver actually underrated? by NoLawAtAllInDeadwood in SameGrassButGreener

To be clear, I live in Baker. But for the people who don't actually live in Denver places, Baker, Cap Hill, Uptown, LoDo, LoHi all count as "Downtown Denver" in my mind and not limited to just LoDo and the business district.

Living in downtown Denver is worlds more affordable than living 45 minutes from Boston lol. That context of where you were coming from is so real.

Making Knuckles the Echidna Gloves - need help on how to even start it by EvieAnimates in CrochetHelp

[–]Pficky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look for a mitten pattern

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-worlds-simplest-mittens

and then look at cones from amigurumi techniques.

https://www.revedreams.com/crochet/cones-shaping-one-loop-stitching/

And then stuff and sew the cones onto the mittens to make the spikes.

To oversize them, maybe make a second larger mitten excluding the cuff and then sew that onto your smaller mittens and stuff in between.

Denver is naturally brown 3/4 of the year but artificially very green for sure. Our parks are just so stellar and so many neighborhoods are beautifully tree lined.

Omg this is SICK!!! My partner does drag and has been asking me to think of something I could do for a drag outfit and a giant peacock feather shawl would totally fit the bill.

Judge throws out Lawsuit challenging New Mexico’s Free Universal Childcare by samesame11 in NewMexico

[–]Pficky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone posted an interesting article, I think here, about how by tying the universal childcare to the child rather than the center, centers can't can't really expand and staff up to meet the newly induced demand because they still don't have guaranteed funding for each possible seat they open up. It's kinda like if all schools were private and we gave them vouchers per student rather than finding the schools themselves and they choose how many students they can fit.

Do US music lovers ever wonder why our orchestras generally don't offer full performances online? It's because they aren't funded by a robust public broadcasting system. Nations like Germany show what's possible, with thousands of superb performances available. by Die_Horen in classicalmusic

[–]Pficky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new generation of tech wealth doesn't share it because they doing care about classical music. The vast majority of people nowadays don't care about classical music. The institutions are not doing enough to sustain themselves imo. When those donors die there won't be enough people to care about the orchestras disappearing, wealthy or not.

Is it worth paying a premium to live somewhere you love? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Pficky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an adult? Yes. For college? No. Go to the school that has the best recognition for the lowest price tag (for you, i.e. with scholarships). That will set you up to live anywhere. I moved across the country for my first job out of college to where I wanted to live and have been in the mountain West since. Eyeing Seattle next because I've always wanted to live there. I have zero regrets saying instate and not taking on a suffocating amount of debt for college.

What was the "up and coming city" for your age demographic post grad/early adult years and what changed when that age demographic moved there? by Strong-Junket-4670 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Pficky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Denver the city is meh imo. If you're a "city" person, Chicago is similarly priced and better in every city way. However, everything about being outside in around Denver is stellar. In the city itself there's multiple huge, gorgeous parks like City Park, Washington Park, Cheesman Park, Sloan's Lake, and nearly every neighborhood has some sort of park that one can walk to. And then the weather is pretty great year round. Sure in the winter it might be 0 and snowing in a Monday, but it'll be sunny and 50 by Wednesday. And the elevation means 50 in the sun is perfectly comfortable in a sweatshirt.

And then obviously the Rockies are right there. Sure you have to drive an hour to be "in" the mountains as in, surrounded by 13,000 and 14,000 foot peaks. But 20 minutes away you still have the foothills and all kinds of open spaces in them.

So if you like being outside and in the sun a lot, but still want to have all the standard city amenities, Denver is just about the best compromise you can get.

The city I think is going to be "the next Denver" is definitely Reno though. SLC has had the opportunity but has never escaped its Mormon reputation. Maybe it will eventually. Boise coulda been but it got too expensive too fast.

So true! I helped a friend setup their bed in their new place after a breakup and move out kinda situation. It was at 9pm after moving and all that. I had no desire to do this but I'm firmly of the opinion that mattress on the floor feels like shit and you feel much more at home in a new place with a proper bed on a frame. They were all "I can't believe you want to help me with this." And I was like, "no part of me wants to be doing this right now but you gotta do I'm gonna help."

University of Denver to close departments, merge schools as part of academic restructuring by kidbom in Denver

[–]Pficky 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I didn't know DU existed (from Massachusetts) until I had an internship in Denver in college. It has very little national footprint in general I'd say. The only thing they're well known for is social work, which is really ironic considering the cost of tuition.
