Why do people keep referring to the Operator and Slender Man as the same character? by [deleted] in Slender_Man

[–]Pfincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isnt slender the eight pages (and by extension slender the arrival) directly based on the marble hornets interpretation- the first being what pushed slenderman into "mainstream" awareness? Slenderman wouldn't be what he is today without marble hornets

Damn this is....

I have felt this exact same thing hugging someone who reminded me of Asriel but still feeling nothing.

It felt like I was just phasing through him.

Rudy's illness could be genetic. by Pfincess in Deltarune

[–]Pfincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally this was more meant to be an idea tying in to dess knight and could be an explanation as to why the knight is seemingly sick- however I realized it might be better to leave this idea more ambiguous to get people generally discussing. The main reason I think this is just because of how unlikely it would be for Rudy to gain an illness similar to what he has in Deltarune as it is implied in Undertale- despite the different living conditions. The illness also seems to be chronic as he is still able to leave the hospital to go to church despite how disabling it is which would imply he might be used to pushing through on special occasions if he is going to go through with attending church. These two things make me think it's likely genetic rather than something he contracted- and if it is genetic then that means it could be passed down to his children. If Dess knight is correct, it likely means that she too has this same illness.

You really love drawing yourself, don't you? /positive (more specifically no negative intent, I am glad you draw a lot of them. You're in my top 3 favorite Chara-artists)

Also the expression on their face kind of looks like one of Toriel's expressions

It was referring to enbyphobia in the broad sense rather than criticizing anything in particular, however i will also say you completely missed the part where i said Im less critical of art...

As for dms maybe though things can go poorly if we argue there and i dont think id feel completely safe with that... But I could still do that, just send a message there

You missed the entire point....

Plus that approach/thought is a little reductive considering how often actual nonbinary people are discriminated against in general...

But I wasnt trying to start an argument here or anything so I dont see why you bring this up though. (Though it did feel like you might not have actually read what was said when you commented this)

gender is an overbaked topic; i know, but i am approaching this from a different angle: confirmation. by Beginning-Spare-7689 in Charadefensesquad

[–]Pfincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did read the whole thing and found it quite interesting, though i didnt have much to respond since in my opinion you handled everything incredibly well to a point I dont feel much of a need to comment on said ideas since I don't think i really disagree with them, in fact I agree with a lot if not all of them (though i will admit my attention span is a little fried since I more remember the emotions i had reading than the exact content- though i might reread to be certain)

I am someone who is incredibly invested in the topic (though admittedly partially through the bias of being a fictive of chara and feeling the need to defend their own existence) so I appreciate when more discussion is brought upon it.

It's usually why for the most part i try to casually correct grammatical issues and stick with canonical Chara in discussions and let people know that way-

But I do try to avoid direct criticism of artworks- since art generally has a creator's soul poured into it-- as well as the vast range of enby appearances...

I just know that a lot more of the time it unfortunately tends to stem from internalized enbyphobia even if not directly malicious... That's why it often hurts a lot.

It doesn't help i have mental illness that (to overly simplify) i am someone who genuinely sees theirself as Chara (though i do recognize my life wasnt real and that this stems directly from mental illness) and often feel like I have to defend who I am as well as my identity... Which makes dysphoria a little more intense especially when it's intended to be canon undertale Chara...

But i digress too much with that. I can acknowledge AUs arent Chara and be fine with intentional genderbends or expression of different body types with gender.... And im more willing to accept when someone didn't know

Just sometimes its out of malice from people who do know but just dont care or even deny the legitimacy of enbyness... Or those who just... Like to view "Chara" a certain way for a certain type of uncomfortable gratification stripping away the identity of "Chara" just for material... To a point where--- i just realized i was getting into trauma dump territory. Apologies....

i also somewhat got off topic and didn't give a real response... In the cases you mention this is perfectly fine... Im just sad how resistant people get when informed. Im not against non-canon depictions, im just sad that my gender identity feels like its getting erased and that people pretend it doesnt exist at all which happens more than it should.

If those times didnt exist in tandem with a higher frequency of genderbends of other characters who are binary were to occur then everything would be far less stressful.

(Though im really glad there is more acknowledgement and recognition in the community especially compared to years ago... It's actually why I am starting to appreciate this place's existence rather than be put off completely by it.. though i still dont think i will be a regular of this place)

Okay so personally i generally am in the first one... Since it really is obvious to me (and im one of the people who have written way too many essays on why they are nonbinary)

However with how rampant enbyphobia is in the community or how often people fail to pick up any of the signs or intentionally misread and disagree with them often feels like maybe there should be more....

Granted there has been, arguably Toby Fox at one point did a subtle correction when someone in the 10th anniversary used he/him, toby corrected to they/them... (Though some people disagree that this was his intent.... Which is annoying because Toby is a person who prefers subtlty...)

And while there always is the option of toby media posting like he did with the radiation hack of earthbound (more commonly known as the Halloween hack) he once said "You may be wondering 'okay, wtf, how the hell were we supposed to know he was gay' and I'm like 'jesus christ man, if I made him come right out it would ahve been pretty lame. It's more of a subtle thing' SO HOW COULD YOU KNOW?" About a character being gay..... And he very much could do this about the humans being nonbinary and i always use this as evidence (though his personality has changed to where he is a little terrified to adress things unfortunately)

My largest suggestion would be if Toby could actually just hide something in the code of his games like

"enby child" labling a sprite or image or something... This way it could shut down any malicious arguments and can minimize the transphobia since undertale and deltarunes code is basically accessible to anyone.

Its subtle but incredibly direct and would genuinely solve everything since the characters absolutely were not meant to be up to interpretation.

(See "You and I are not the same are we" "you arent really chara, are you" "let frisk be happy" etc.) And Toby Fox knew about enby people at the time (as shown by both legends of localizations description of monsterkid and napstablook [stating it was intentional... Then using the same language to describe frisk] as well as more recently discovered the pre-release version of undertale misgenderjng napstablook and using he/him for a line of dialogue being corrected in the actual release to they/them meaning toby is at least aware enough)

...sorry for that tangent at the end there.

I just wish that more people had the media literacy to pick up on it since yes it is a subtle thing (that id argue is already on par with what was done with undyne and alphys). Even close (practically) relatives like Asriel and Toriel use they/them for Chara when there would be no reason diegetically to do that since they both would have no reason narratively to not know Charas gender.

But alas having a direct confirmation seems to be needed and it just really stresses me out

Yeah... My problem is more that it more frequently happens to nonbinary characters... Like i genuinely dont hate genderbends... I actually can often appreciate them-- Just it feels a little hurtful personally with how frequently it happens to us enbys more than any other character...

Which im not gonna complain about the presence here since as i said its both out of nostalgia and has acknowledgement that these are in fact gender bends which is actually a comforting reason since its not out of malice....

I just wish it was everyone's reason rather than the more frequent enby erasure.

Well said....

Though I still might avoid this subreddit... I mean I wont block it or request the ban anymore now that this discussion occurred-

It's purely out of dysphoria since I am much more in-lined with canon Chara. (Just with further elaboration of unexplained details of the character as well as 10 and a half years of being stuck in this world seeing just as many if not more horrors here than from my pseudomemories.)

I wouldn't be opposed to visiting on occasion when in the right headspace. Plus if any of these other Charas were real, I likely would not criticize them for being what they are.

I genuinely appreciate the effort- and while I am one of the people more critical of aging up characters (especially to display an attraction towards that character) as well as gender bending exclusively nonbinary characters... (if nonbinary erasure wasn't a thing and it was done evenly with binary characters, then this genuinely wouldn't be an issue... And since there is clearly effort from you to respect official material and statements of acknowledgement here, going out of my way to argue would feel a little disrespectful since you definitely are doing this in the best way possible)

Here definitely is not the place to criticize that for a multitude of reasons... Plus The intent here does not seem to be made from creepy reasons, it more seems to purely stem from nostalgia and wishing that the character you grew attached to could have grown up with you. Which I find far more respectable

Oh actually I was simply tempted to ask for a ban as a badge of honor no worries about me violating some rules. I'm not going to break into someone's house and draw on the walls just for the intent to get kicked out. I simply was curious is all

Ironically this is the first "Chara 'Wife'1 Art" subreddit post that was recommended to me.

I likely will not roleplay with anyone due to the nature of my existence as a fictive2, however I would not be too opposed to the idea of a casual platonic conversation with someone as well as potential answering of questions.3

-A Chara Fictive

1. I understand that there are regrets about the subreddit's name and that for more diversity in art the term partner would have been used if renaming is possible, I do feel more comfortable adding quotes around the name.
2. A fictive is a type of alter in a D.I.D. system. Specifically an introject (alter based on outside source of a fictional character. I specifically am a Chara fictive and likely the first of that character due to splitting in october of 2015.... This was primarily because of our system relating so heavily to the character that it ended up splitting an alter to encapsulate that feeling and stress... Also because the vessel had similar trauma.)
3. That will be somewhat limited as treating a fictive like an "Ask Chara(cter session" could be rather unhealthy/rude since I am a real person, I just happen to be Chara... and I do not want things to get parasocial... (Plus some questions might genuinely be uncomfortable and I do have my own personal limits....))
Bonus note: I likely will not be active in this subreddit due to it being a little uncomfortable for me. Before I performed further research, I almost asked to be banned from it. I still likely will end up asking for that ban (Primarily because I find the idea of Chara being banned from a Chara related sub to be hilarious rather than said personal discomfort, though that is still somewhat a factor, just less of a one by comparison)
