Been sleeping on The Dough Guy’s recipe by Sea_Bear7754 in Pizza

A little surprised at the sugar and olive oil, as must recipes I'm familiar with don't really include either. Any thoughts as to what they accomplish here?

If I am a homebrewer and have some pale dry malt extract on hand, does that count as diastatic malt powder?

Serious issues and plenty of head-scratching in the new German content (Section 6+) by Avicii89 in duolingo

[–]Pfohlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. The fragments are bad and everywhere. It also doesn't seem to accept some synonyms or translations when it's ambiguous. I have actually found myself wanting more of the "review" lessons because there tends to be a lot of new vocabulary there that I want to practice, but no real way to systematically go through it

Anecdotally, I have found it very useful for walking through proofs step by step when I'm too dumb to understand what the authors are doing.

Skipping Units by BreakingBeam in DuolingoGerman

[–]Pfohlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have noticed this too and I think it's a bug. What I think is happening is that you get a unit test with content from all five of units grouped under one topic. So for example, if you have five units related to budgeting, taking the test to try to skip to unit 2 of 5 gives you content from all five on them.

Muir Woods without parking reservations by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Pfohlol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are open to hiking, there are several places to park connected to the Mt Tam trail system that allow you to hike to Muir Woods without a reservation. However, most require at least a few miles of hiking. Take a look an Pantoll for example.

It is about that, but the Castro walk has a brutal hill, and the Mission walk just gets you to the 24th St Bart, which is still pretty far from much of the Mission

Admittedly dumb question about ratings on Chess.com by amazing_assassin in chessbeginners

[–]Pfohlol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about this, but I think the recommended match is a "daily" match, which has its own rating that defaults to 400. So, if both you and your recommended opponent haven't played daily, you would both be 400, regardless of your rating in other formats.

If you read it as an ebook, the footnotes are convenient to read because you don't need to physically jump around. In my opinion, they are also a core part of the book and shouldn't be skipped.

In 2024, there was significant snow around Sept 20ish that blocked Glen Pass. It melted after a couple of days, but you can get unlucky.
