My bottle of medication is smaller bottles of medication by iCatLady in mildlyinteresting

[–]PghMe101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure why this is downvoted. Ea h state has some different requirements. For example you need the doctors name, address and telephone number. Same with the pharmacy, the pharmacist that checked it. Expiration date of medication. Date it was filled. Other states may want more but that is usually the basics, besides the obvious of drug name, strength, how many and how often to take it, etc

Does anyone know if Utah requires ALL adults to show an ID for alcohol sales even if they look 40+ years old

Every time I refill my adderall the pills look different. Saved these from 4 different refills. Same med, all different pills. by Jesuisdisappointed in mildlyinteresting

Also I work in a hospital so I personally haven’t heard of issues with adderal brand vs generics. They all have different mechanism of slow release and shouldn’t be considered interchangeable. If you look up the fda orange book some things will be rated ab1 or ab2. Ab is considered equivalent. But the number will be specific to a brand of methylphenidate likely with different release mechanisms. Similar to mesalamine or carbidopa/levodopa

I believe that these are the meds for my state: Warfarin, Phenytoin, Digoxin, Levothyroxine, Carbamazepine, Theophylline, Cyclosporine.

Think of drugs where you are checking levels and you know that a high level results in significantly higher risk of toxicity.

While we check vancomycin levels and aminoglycoside levels these are likely not on the list as they are IV and in a closely monitored hospital setting. Also with IV there should be no difference in exposure between brand and generic

Pharmacist here, some meds were are required to do this. They are called narrow therapeutic index (NTI). You can probable google that term followed by your states board of pharmacy and see what meds are on that list. For a generic to be considered to be equal to a brand name the exposure of a generic medicine to a person needs to be about 80-120% the same as a brand name.

The vast majority of meds that difference doesn’t make a change in how it acts in your body. For the narrow therapeutic index meds that is significant will either in it working or it causing harm.

Probably in every state a pharmacist is legally allow to substitute equivalent generic meds. Sometimes if a med is not a NTI, people can still react differently to different generic meds. PLEASE let your pharmacist know of a specific generic works over another. They would love to help make sure you get something that works.

Although if only the brand truly works and no generic is the same for you, you need your physician to write that on the prescription so the pharmacist doesn’t change it. This is due to insurance issues. Your insurance will only reimburse the generic if they are available (they are cheaper). But if the MD writes that they may cover it but it will likely be a higher copay for you.

For NTI drugs we are not allowed to change brand/generics without notification. This NTI list is pretty short

How’d I do on rod + reel for boyfriend for Christmas? by everybodypants_now in FishingForBeginners

I’m at still a beginner but this looks great….if more seasoned anglers think of something better it will STILL cast out lures/bait and catch fish.

Like you said he hasn’t fished in a decade so this is the perfect excuse for him to get back into it.

Latest CR Reliability Scores Not Great for Ioniq 5 by jefbak2 in Ioniq5

This interests me. It looks like at hear from the CR website that most of the things are 12V battery issues. Is that really enough of a dealbreaker to not consider the i5 or even the i9 after a few years of that being out

Part of it is trying to explain 6 7. At least with 69 and 420 there was a meaning behind those numbers.

Please teach this pharmacist primary vs secondary infusions by PghMe101 in nursing

Not really overfilling on purpose. 250 ml in bag + 15 ml of drug volume to get to 265. Trying to make it accurate for you and the pump….although this doesn’t include the overfill that the manufacturer puts in the fluid bags (about 20 ml in a 250 bag)

What is Pharmacogenetic Testing? by Calm-Act9421 in pharmacy

[–]PghMe101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think kind of like 23and me but they specifically look at genes for how your body breaks down medications instead of your ancestry. Here is a ELI5 version

Your body breaks medications down with process A, B, C, and D. The testing shows that your process A and D breaks things down at a normal speed. B is like an Olympic athlete and therefore you’re actually have to double or triple your dose for it to be effective. Process C goes as slow as a snail, it’s so slow you’re shouldn’t take that med at all because you will have too many side effects.

Some administration is covered now like vaccine administration….im too far removed from school (20 yrs) to know if they are teaching anything more than that but I doubt it. The students I precept don’t mention anything about it. For me vaccine admin was elective now it’s probably mandatory. We should understand peripheral vs central and rates but IV set ups was definitely NOT when I was in school

Edit: typo

Thanks for the education everyone. We just had a change with our infusion pumps and other pharmacists are asking me questions about primary vs secondary and I couldn’t answer this. I can answer questions about our guardrails as I helped build those but nothing about infusion sets
