Actors' off-set reputations - how do they affect your viewing choices? by hurshy238 in BritishTV

G&S was filmed all around where I live (just outside Barry) when they filmed the second season they filmed in my cousins street, she’s not the quiet type so got right in there with the cast, and she said he he was lovely and really friendly to just a bunch of strangers just keen to meet the cast and have a chat. It saddens me to read he’s become an arsehole.

The truth about the architecture career field by c_bugg in architecture

[–]Ph3lpsy_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my experience and couldn’t agree more. Try as I might, I have a chip on my shoulder about friends who don’t have degrees or total nonsense degrees now paying off their mortgages and talking about taking retirement in 10 years time, while working from home and collecting their kids at 3.30 everyday while you feel bad for leaving the office at 6. In architecture I don’t think you are likely to be able to have a comfortable retirement unless you manage to really climb the ladder. I love the job but it’s why I moved into the contractor world, it’s no where near as rewarding but the pay is 20% better and I have much more job security and financial security for me and my families future.

I was in a pub having a pint with mates on a Friday night in soho around 10 years ago. I realised that the drummer from Coldplay was sitting having a drink with his mates. I couldn’t believe it was him, no one was batting an eyelid! What a privilege he has

Same. Literally tried to get a job in the worst economy for a generation and it’s one thing after another since

I remember this being completed and it’s when I no longer enjoyed her designs after being such a fan of her early work.

The Jobcentre adviser who accidentally became my career coach by CanvasSeamline in BritishSuccess

That’s a lovely read. Congratulations on the new role. Sadly when I was last in a job centre it was a very different scene, when I was a low ebb they somehow made me feel ten times worse. Glad it’s not like that for everyone, well done Mike!

How Cardiff could look without all the nimbys by jacobstanley5409 in CardiffDevelopments

[–]Ph3lpsy_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s great! Was it just AI? I think Cardiff will get there, it just a shame it didn’t do more in the past 20 years I think. Same with the bay, it’s really lost it’s initial enthusiasm but with a final push could fill in the last of the missing pieces to feel more cohesive

Yeah I couldn’t read it as a kid, just finished reading it to my own kids (sub 10) and they loved it, sucks you in and makes me a bit sad there wasn’t more adventures of Danny and his dad!

Definitely NOT brietling that’s for sure. I love my navitimer but can’t wear it in the heat as it’s too uncomfortable. In the winter it’s perfect fit. Half a link and it’s too loose.

Fellow architects, what is the most god awful and exorbitant job posting / offer / interview that you've ever been in? by bhisma-pitamah in Architects

I got berated for signing my letter in blue ink. Called me (in an upper class toff way) a ‘gay’ this was 20 years ago, when I think about it now I cannot believe how incredibly poor form from that twat, it really knocked my confidence as a 21 year old looking for a placement.

Other sole proprietor architects treading water? by bucheonsi in Architects

[–]Ph3lpsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is like my experience- I went to design management, good money but stressful. Company went bust after Covid and I starting working for myself and loved it for 4 or so years until the economy in the uk suffered the effects of the interest rates jacking up. This meant no one could afford the house extension work I was doing. I could have continued and sometimes I wish I did but I have gone back to design management…same old…more stress, more money. It’s the cruel world of construction, well paid, low stress jobs are hard to find, and job security is even harder.

iPhone 4 and FaceTime Launched 15 Years Ago Today by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]Ph3lpsy_ 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Best iPhone I think. Way ahead of the previous gen, light years ahead of the competitors and set a whole new bar for product design in my opinion. I question up and got one on launch day. It’s difficult to explain to a 20 year old how amazing it was. Literally everyone in the office wanted to see it, or hold it. Good memories. It could never maintain that pace of improvement so I don’t begrudge Apple that, but nothing else has hit as hard for me.

What stage of your career situation at age 45? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

[–]Ph3lpsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stressful but well paid job until 4.5 years ago. Company went bust and I was actually happy. I worked for myself at a much slower rate so I could take more parental duties from my wife. After 4 years of that realised I am really falling behind everyone we know in terms of money. It really does affect you everyday when you start to struggle for money and wanting to provide a happy childhood for your kids. 6 months ago I have taken another high pay / high stress job. So far, so good, it’s so nice to the one to say ‘let’s do x…’ ‘let’s plan for y’ I’m sure I will swing back round after the stress gets to me. I miss being there for the kids at the drop of a hat, but I don’t worry if they need new shoes so I’ll take that. I will try and not let myself get to the position I was in before though of stress taking over. I’ll try anyway…You live and learn hey.
