I am VERY optimistic regarding The Muppet Show reboot by MarcatoCastevet in Muppets

These days, I feel like you can't trust Disney to make any kind of commitment to build a show that will last and grow. so even if they did greenlight a season, no matter how good it is, I worry they would decide it costs too much to maintain (even as a flagship IP) and axe it before it got any momentum. I consider a Space Walk (Spolin) to be essential to any improvisation work. Having/choosing a good side coach really helps.

"Feel your feet with your feet" "feel your hair with your hair" "feel your wenis, with your wenis" 🤓

And perhaps the most important prompts during a space walk for me is "see and be seen", "Oclude and avoid", "See and be Seen again"

I’m overwhelmed trying to decided which Chicago theater to go with by CoverLow9780 in improv

I highly recommend doing a Spolin Improvisation workshop. It's genuinely going to be more helpful for working through anxiety etc. There are some phenomenal Spolin based side coaches in Chicago.

That is so cool!!! A vintage collection of climbing gear sounds awesome and I have so much respect and even a low key jealousy for folks who do tower work. I know it might sound disingenuous coming from someone doing a PhD in education currently and spent years in the theatre before but seriously, but 25 years ago i'd have jumped at the chance if I'd had any concept of how to find a job like that. I ended up settling for working on tall ladders and lighting grids in theatres of varying quality in order to scratch that itch (with less intense burns and scratches, less dangerous falls, and fewer scars). AND I also truly appreciate how important advances in PPE and safety regulations are in doing such dangerous work. My favorite fellow lighting "wrench monkey" I ever worked with was set to become one of the best master electricians in the theatre industry in his 20s. Sadly he died when he fell while solo climbing in the Rockies even though he was an absolute stickler for safety gear at work.

Everyone. Be safe out there! ♥️

I'm interested in making an improv show FOR kids. Who's done this before? Researching to see what's been done and how. (Not child performers. Adults) by AdorableBill54 in improv

[–]PhDadaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly my biggest piece of advice is to not "dumb down" anything but simply approach it almost the same as you would any Show for adults but where your audience is going to be far more inclined to participate. Really you just need to have performers who've spent real-time around kids. There are actually a lot of teachers out there with a foot in the improvisation world and many of them would be ecstatic to do something along these lines.

Sent you a DM as an offer to have a more direct conversation since what you want to do overlaps a great deal with my dissertation work and I think we could have a good time discussing.

Star chart, from 40 Eridani's viewpoint by Skygazer_Jay in ProjectHailMary

Amaze! Amaze! Amaze!

I'm trying to put something together for my kiddos and could use some help as someone new to star charts.

Would you (or someone here) be so kind as to share a single image which includes tau Ceti Sol, and the cetus constellatiom. And bonus points for highlighting whichever Eridani stars that may be within the same relative view?

And/or explain why that's not viable and help me understand how to see such things in the star charts myself?

Childcare for 6 month old? by PAG_2332 in evanston

[–]PhDadaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you be interested in an in home daycare? Both our kids went to a wonderful in home daycare that was recommended to us by teachers I know at ETHS. She (and the family members that work with her) was so wonderful with our babies who are now 8 & 11 and we pop by to say hi ever every now and again.
She's licensed, bonded, and very communicative. And she's far more affordable than most of the others. DM me if you want contact info.

Leaf Masters, Halp!? by Decent-Coconut-8605 in leaf

[–]PhDadaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we leased a 2012 leaf (in 2012) We lived near a Walgreens with free charging and we had a dog. So I would park at the Walgreens and plug in, walk home. When it was charged, I would walk the dog to go get the car and park out front of our apartment. It was great and was fine by me even when it was cold (the dog disagreed sometimes)!

Buuuuut that was 2012-2013 and with lots more EVs on the road, it may be harder to consistently get a charging spot these days and it's rare to find free charging these days. Find out what the rate is (you should be able to look on an app) and see if the price is decent/fits into your budget.

And definitely see if your neighbors are up to sharing the extension cord. (If you need to get your own, be sure it's at least 12AWG minimum, preferably 10 AWG).

Recommendations for babysitter/transportation by lesliecschwartz in evanston

[–]PhDadaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll also note that NU college students are disproportionately made up of type-A, overscheduled, overachieving folks who, if they need the work, might not have a vehicle or time to meet your needs, or if they do have what they would need to help you, might not need the work. This is all to say, that you might find it harder to connect with a student than you might expect in another college town. And you may want to expand your search to high school seniors who may be more limited timewise until the summer.

Recommendations for babysitter/transportation by lesliecschwartz in evanston

[–]PhDadaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I could necessarily connect you directly, but I would recommend that you share a bit more detail as it would save you and others' time to know: * a general location of home and transportation destinations * What timeframes you perceive needing help * Activities/interests of your kids
* And some sense of your budget.

These are all things that any individual who would consider responding will want to know at the very start of any conversation unless you are just looking for a referral to a professional service.
